Lovely old building in peaceful setting. Very comfortable and friendly service. Great food and I didn't even have to wash up! Youth hostels have come a long way, even had my own en suite. Perfect for a retreat with lots of great places on the doorstep More...

Amazing place. Lovely staff, amazing building that's very impressive. Great in the library when the fire is roaring. There's a games room, bar, restaurant, lounge, library, free WiFi downstairs. The drying room is great for sryibg things after going out walking. Lots of great walks in the area, and the bus stops right outside More...

The rooms were very tidy and the room I stayed in came with an en suite. The mattresses were quite thin, but were surprisingly comfortable. The shared kitchen was not far from the rooms and was very well equipped. The lounge/common room was old fashioned but cosy. Overall, it's good. The only downside (not much of a downside) was it took a while to find our room. More...

A lovely place to stay. A building of great character surrounded by fantastic countryside.
Reasonably priced, good food and drink with friendly and helpful staff.
The only downside is that the drying room is outside the main building. However, there is a good bicycle store.
Highly recommended.

Love it here, at any time of year. Walk from the door. Parking a bit of a mare. Food brilliant. I'd wish guests would be quiet when moving around, early/late. A few private rooms on offer.

Stayed with with a group of 6 of us, had a room to ourselves with on suite. Staff were friendly, kitchen was nice to use in the evening and morning and room was nice. We couldn't use the code to get back in and had to wait for someone to open the door for us so double check the code before shutting the door! More...

Saturday morning I decided to stay at another yha and stumbled upon one of the best. I think it's now my favourite for so many reasons. It's a delight architecturally, with so many wonderful features. It works so well with its layout. The staff were amazing. It was a busy night and morning and the team ran breakfast amazingly. The bedroom I stayed in was so spacious and didn't feel like you were packed in. The views superb. The new kitchen great. And just to put the cherry on the cake it is a 3 minute walk into the centre of Hartington. Hartington is like something out of a picture book a few great places to discover including the church. The cheese shop the village pond and a couple of great watering holes where I had the most amazing venison stew. Honestly if your looking for the best this has to be up there. Thank you for an amazing stay will definitly return More...

Situated in a pretty village not far from ashbourne and therefore ideal for exploring surrounding areas. Go down to the village in the evening for a drink or a meal from either of the pubs. A step walk back up the hill to walk off a few calories. Staff in the hostel are down to earth, informative and friendly. The main house is historical and grand, with a cosy interior. Breakfast was plentiful. Sorry to say our quadruple room with bunk beds and ensuite wasn't the best that I've stayed in. Difficulty accessing the top bunk so slept on a mattress on the floor. Shower was a mere trickle. More...

A beautiful main building, plentiful breakfast, helpful, friendly staff, cosy interior in the historic main house. Our room was in the barn. A quadruple room with two bunk beds, which were almost impossible to climb (especially in bare feet) and heave ourselves up onto. We ended up taking the mattress off and sleeping on the floor.
Shower was a mere trickle, but at least clean. Overlooked the yard and therefore not scenic.
