Having purchased a house in Rolleston that needed a lot of work we've got used to shopping around for the the best suppliers for the job in hand and 9 times out of 10 like most people I expect, go on reviews.
We had at the time already selected a fantastic supplier for our fence work who we had previously used (ACM Fencing) BUT clocked the number of positive reviews for fence work by Harrison Garden Services.
Harrison Garden Services claimed to offer more than fence installation and since we needed our back garden levelled and re-turfed we assumed that the reviews of their fence installation work would also reflect their turfing expertise. How wrong we were!
We paid just shy of £2000 for our garden to be levelled and re-turfed in April 2021.
Here is our story......
1) The quote clearly stated that they would cut off the top layer of turf, level the whole garden and then put down top soil.
What actually transpired was that they rotavated the garden and simply put new turf on top of the old turf.
We raised as they started the job that we had been quoted for cutting off the top layer of turf but they claimed they had a new rotavator that went deeper and therefore the turf didn't need cutting. However, neither of the rotavators used were 'new' and this has now caused the lawn to be an inch higher than the patio.
2) In terms of the result, this team wouldn't know what 'level' was if it smacked them in the face, it was comparable to the surface of the moon.
On requesting they come back to review the level of the lawn, one of the team commented it's like 'f'ing quicksand'. To remedy they pulled back some of the turf and added more topsoil in places and said it would all settle and level over the next couple of months. As a gesture of goodwill they left us with their rusty roller.
So now 2 1/2 months on....... the lawn has firmed up, however chances of it being level is still something of a wish. And... to add insult to injury the turf is also covered in mushrooms and a number of broadleaf plantains that we never had previously on our old lawn.
The turf quality after being quoted for one down from premium grade is 'meadow grade' quality at best and patchy. With many varieties of grass in different areas of the lawn.
In terms of customer of service, Ben (The Owner) after coming and quoting never had the balls to speak to face-to-face following the issues and just sent his team to remedy.
He did however hassle us for payment, which we made, in full, on time.
My recommendation.... if you are thinking of using these guys for turfing I would seriously look elsewhere.

Heart problems,unable to do the gardening anymore,partner too busy at work ,We needed help .?Placed wanted add on Bark, Harrisons Garden service replied so quick,so friendly and helpful, offered to call round and have a look,no obligation,which he did the next day. I was a little nervous about what to expect and the charges,,.....What a lovely man,with a very nice professional van, made him a coffee while he had a look around, I had no need to fear, Ben is his name,he could call next week for the first session,(it had to be quick as I had visiters coming to stay and wanted to impress,) He would give a good weeding .cut back all the bushes and remove all the mess,cut the grass,first cut this year,! What do you love most about your job?
I love my job as I treat every job as if it is my property and love to see the clients faces when I have simply cut there garden or even transformed the garden to a new living space.
What inspired you to start your own business?
The reason I have set up my business is due to being let down by other tradesmen and also being charged over the odds for work which I needed doing. I have build my business on recommendations .

I believe I am a very realible and trustworthy businessmen due to working within the public sector for approx 11 years. I am fully insured to up 5 million and have all of my method statements and risk assessments up to date.
