THE EXPLORATION AND TREATEMENT OF DIFFICULT AND OFTEN PAINFUL, EMOTIONS AND EXPERIENCES.

Psychotherapy helps explore and address feelings of anxiety, depression, trauma or sometimes the loss of meaning in one's life. The process seeks to help the person gain an increased capacity for choice, through which the individual becomes more autonomous and self-determined. Psychotherapy may be provided for individuals or children, couples, families and in groups. A psychotherapist thus works with people who have emotional, behavioural or psychological difficulties. The actual work is mainly to encourage the client to talk and explore their feelings, beliefs and thoughts and sometimes, relevant aspects of and events in their childhood and personal history. Psychotherapists work to help the client understand more about their problems and then make appropriate changes in their thinking and behaviour. As a result the work can last over quite a long term. Brief psychotherapy is also possible, especially to help someone resolve a more immediate crisis.

THE MODIFICATION TREATMENT OF UNHELPFUL THOUGHTS, ASSUMPTIONS, BELIEFS AND BEHAVIOURS.

CBT Therapy looks at how you think about yourself and the affect this has on your behaviour and emotion when interacting with the world and people around you. CBT is widely accepted as an evidence and empirically based, cost-effective psychotherapy for many disorders and psychological problems. It is suitable for adults and young people. CBT can help you to change how you think and what you do. These changes can help you to feel better. Unlike some of the other talking treatments, it focuses on the "here and now" problems and difficulties. Instead of focusing on the causes of your distress or symptoms in the past, it looks for ways to improve your state of mind in the present. CBT can help you to make sense of overwhelming problems by breaking them down into smaller chunks. This makes it easier to see how they are connected and how they affect you. This process starts with focusing on a particular problematic situation and moves on to identify the thoughts, emotions, physical feelings and actions that can follow from that situation. Each of these areas can interact with one another. How you think about a problem can affect how you feel physically and emotionally. It can also alter what you do about it.

The particular therapeutic techniques vary depending on the needs of the client, but commonly include :

Keeping a diary of significant events and associated feelings, thoughts and behaviours

Questioning and testing thoughts, assumptions, evaluations and beliefs that might be unhelpful and unrealistic

Gradually facing activities which may have been avoided and trying out new ways of behaving and reacting

Relaxation and distraction techniques are also commonly included

A PROACTIVE APPROUCH TREATMENT FOR RESOLVING PROBLEMATIC BEHAVIOURS.

Collabrative and Problem Solving Therapy addresses the wasted human potential of children and young people whom present with behavioural, social and emotional challenges. Still in today's age children and young people experiencing these issues remain poorly understood and treated. The approuch combines both CBT Therapy and Transactional Analysis. CPS Therapy is a new innovation and philosphy, developed in the early 21st centuary. It is based on neurological research and the ethos that young people that present with challenging behaviour lack important thinking skills and suffer with learning and developmental delays. This premis is supported by neuroscience studies conducted over the last 30 years with young people whom have presented with aggressive or difficult behaviour. The CPS Process will help teachers and parents identify and resolve challenging behaviours in children and young people. This process firstly identifies the problems that require targeting. Once indentified, the CPS framework will offer parents, teachers and the children the ability to listen to one another and learn to compromise on a collaborative outcome.

The CSP framework will provide the following benefits:

Tools to identify unsolved problems

Technqiues to address the lagging skills that underly the problematic behaviour

Explicit guidlines on how to radically improve interactions between adults and children with challenging behaviours

Practical guidance for successful collabration between teachers, parents, school and children

CPS Therapy will encoruage all parties to strategise and problem solve, aiding them to overcome obstacbles of frustration.

Utimatley, this will result in better understanding from both parties and reduce behaviour issues that children and young people may present.

THE ANTIDOTE TREATMENT TO ADDRESS THE STRESSES OF MODERN LIFE.

It is the art of paying attention to present moment experiences with openness and curiosity. Mindfulness is a skill that helps us hone our ‘attentional’ processes. This skill can be applied to any moment in life. The practice of mindfulness teaches us to pay greater attention to our internal and external experiences leading to a more balanced and harmonious existence. Mindfulness can be employed throughout the day to deal with stressful situations and to reduce emotional reactivity. Mindfulness tools and practices can help us with work, study, family, relationships, health and in any areas of stress and difficulty. Anyone of any background can be taught mindfulness to find more ease and well-being, no matter what life's circumstances. This Mindfulness course will engage you in experiential, fun activities that include simple body movement, breathing exercises, guided visualizations and will introduce the skill of meditation. Mindfulness practices are gradually increased as the course progresses. Participants gain a deeper awareness of the body/mind connection, sensory perception and their interconnection with all beings. Participation, questions and discussion are all highly encouraged. Respect of self and others, kindness and compassion form the foundation of the class experience. Participants gain tools that help them navigate the many changes occurring in their lives, if implemented on a consistent basis. The practice of mindful awareness can guide you to improve relationships, create relaxation and calmness, soothe the self, increase memory, enhance focus, reduce stress, manage reactions and emotions, increase self-acceptance and feel more at ease in our often 24/7 stressful lives.

Benefits of Mindfulness:

Current science is supporting the benefit of mindfulness for the general challenges of life in the 21st century and a variety of physical & psychological health conditions.

Research shows mindfulness can impact life positively in the following ways, by:

Reducing stress reactions

Reducing chronic physical pain

Boosting the immune system

Reducing emotional reactivity

Increasing self-awareness

Improving attention and concentration

Enhancing positive emotions

Cultivating well-being and happiness

Positively impact the brain

THE THERAPEUTIC TREATMENT OF SLEEP DEPRIVATION AND INSOMNIA.

Sleep is a state of rest which is mental and physical. It is a state where the person becomes unaware of the environment and is inactive. In this state mammals and humans are detached from their immediate environment and cannot respond to most external stimuli. When sleep is deprived, a person can become groggy, grumpy, irritable, and forgetful. Lack of sleep affects the brain’s ability to function and thus the body becomes strained and the brain will start a thinking riot. The part of the brain that controls language, memory, planning, and sense of time, begins to shut down. Research shows that 17 hours of wakefulness leads to a decrease in performance in humans. Sleep Deprivation is distressing because it becomes difficult for a person to concentrate on doing every day functions and expereince the feeling of mental and physical exhaustion.

When a person sleeps, the body produces valuable hormones, for example, growth hormone. This hormone is important to the body especially in children as it helps muscle mass built and cells/ tissues to repair. The body also releases other important hormones that help fight various infections during deep sleep, thus sleep is very important to living beings, especially during sickness. The hormones released during sleep also affect how the body uses energy. Studies show that people who have less sleep tend to have weight concerns. They also begin to develop a taste for foods that are high in calories and carbohydrates. Sleep deprivation can be caused by one or a combination of the following factors; lifestyle, medical conditions and side-effects of medicine.

Lifestyle factors that cause sleeplessness are:

Excess intake of caffeine (tea/coffee/soft drinks) and alcohol consumption before bedtime.

Skewed working hours that go on till late in the night.

Some studies suggest that smoking is also connected to sleeplessness.

Watching TV/playing video games/ poor sleep hygiene

Stress and anxiety or depression.

Certain medicines can cause sleeplessness. It is best to consult your doctor about your medicine’s side-effects.

Medical conditions such as asthma, chronic depression, mental ill-health, sleep apnoea, and a few other medical conditions can cause sleeplessness.

THE ANTIDOTE TREATMENT TO STRESS AND INFORMATION OVERLOADS.

Relaxation Therapy is a physical and experiential type of therapy.

Chronic Stress, Information Overloads and Perfectionism are the main 21st centuary causes for people to feel overwhelmed and be susptable to mental health issues. Living in today's 24/7 society, people, more than ever, are feeling overloaded and unable to cope adaptivly. Relaxation therapy incorperates a number of stress managment techniques and strategises that have stud the test of time and have been subject to much research.
