What’s your interior design process?
It's important to get on with your interior designer and have faith that they can deliver on brief, on time and on budget. I like to have an initial, no obligation, meeting to ensure that I understand what my clients want, to offer up some initial ideas and to discuss the process and how I can help.
The next stage is to send a detailed 'scope of work' document to the client along with terms and conditions and a rough estimation of timescales.
If all this sounds good then I arrange a second, more detailed meeting, to take measurements and discuss the finer details before I go away and draw up detailed plans, create visuals and pull together all the elements to create the new design scheme/s.
I like to work with clients to ensure that they are fully informed and involved at all stages. This mitigates any last minute changes and ensures my clients are very happy with the finished project.
Which interior design styles can you cater for?
I cater for all styles but personally I like to pull together new and old pieces to ensure that there is real integrity in my designs. One older piece placed within a newly designed room can make the difference between a good design and a great design.
What do you love most about your job?
I'm inspired every day I turn up at our workshop and showroom. Working with a small team of expert craftsmen/women and creating new pieces of furniture means that I'm constantly thriving in a creative environment.
Oh, and being my own boss!
What inspired you to start your own business?
Having spent many years in the corporate world, and remembering my now-departed father's words resonating in my ears "life if a journey, not a destination" I decided to take the jump into the unknown and set up my own interior business in 2011. Since then I've had the fortune to join forces with Anthony and we now have a fabulous small enterprise which we immensely proud of.

At Handmade Interiors we provide a unique offering which many interior designers do not have. With the help of my business partner Anthony, and our apprentice Maisie, we make new furniture in any design which they expertly upholster to my clients' requirements. This provides my clients with truly unique furniture that cannot be found of the high street. We also offer reupholster and renovate old and tired pieces bringing them back to life.
