Guitar Lessons Basingstoke Company Description

Company Description

My name's Sean Campbell and I provide guitar lessons to the good people of Basingstoke and north Hampshire.

I teach all ages and levels of proficiency at my clean and tidy home studio in Brighton Hill, Basingstoke, though I do travel to students on occasion for an additional charge of £3. I teach seven days a week from 10:00 till 18:00 (Sundays are reserved for students who need to reschedule however). I charge £30 per hour, £23.50 for 45 minutes and £17 for a half hour lesson. Discounts are available for block payments in advance and for anyone who wishes to share a lesson with a friend. I have a veritable selection of guitar equipment and teaching facilities for the benefit of my students, including a spare guitar for them to borrow if they do not yet own one. I also have a very decent sofa for any parents who wish to sit in on their child's lesson, which they're most welcome to do of course! I will even provide tea for aforementioned parents.

There is of course more to be said, but if you're curiosity is not yet sated, please do pay my website a visit for more information, or just get in touch, I do quite well at maintaining my 24-hour-maximum response time.

Thanks for reading, hope to see you soon,

Sean Campbell

Guitar Lessons Basingstoke Q&A

Company Q&A

What do you love most about your job?

I love being strategic in plotting out how to get my students to achieve their goals.
I love being thorough in my tuition and clear in my communication because I want the student to really understand each concept fully and properly.
But most of all I really just love music, music is fun, and that means my job is therefore fun.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I finished studying music in 2007, and then I pretty much traveled all over the place - Europe, USA, Australia; working in music performance and tuition - teaching at festivals, music academies, summer camps, running workshops, courses, summer schools, private tuition, school tuition, etc.
When I decided to settle down, I realised that I loved what I was doing so much, I had to make it work back home, which is what I did. So all the course materials I've written over those years, all that experience working with musicians the world over, and teaching people from all walks of life, all that is now encapsulated in my business - Guitar Lessons Basingstoke.

Why should our clients choose you?

Well, I believe it is necessary for a guitar teacher to be constantly mindful of what the student actually want to achieve. Everything I do in the lessons is intended with the achievement of their objectives in mind.
Now that may sound obvious, but it's actually quite rare. You see it's much easier just to keep the student happy for the short-term by teaching any pleasing bits and pieces that spring to mind five minutes before each lesson, which fools them into thinking they know more than they do; or to simply teach every student from one book, regardless of their individual aspirations. This is not in the student's long-term interest, and sadly, it is why most guitar students end up feeling overwhelmed, purposeless and disenchanted with it all. To operate in the student's long-term interest however, i.e. to get the results they want takes effort. It takes strategy to determine the necessary path to of learning to take. It takes skills of analysis to be able to deconstruct every difficult task into a handful of simple tasks. It takes consistency and patience to teach a subject with the thoroughness necessary for the student to know it back to front. It takes clarity of communication to truly impart the fullness of one's knowledge on a subject.
This is what I pride myself in, and at the risk of sounding conceited, this is what I am good at, and this is what I believe makes Guitar Lessons Basingstoke different.

Sean has been teaching our 14 year-old son Jimmy for the last few years. He has introduced him to a broad variety of music styles and taught him the relevant techniques that accompany them. Jim enjoys the relaxed atmosphere of Sean's lessons and Sean has been helpful with advice on things Jim has to do for his GCSE course. I have already recommended him to friends and will continue to do so.

Sean has been teaching my 9 year old son to play the guitar for some time now. He is a great teacher, patient, friendly, fun to learn with and my son looks forward to every lesson with him. His refreshing approach has really helped to captivate my son's imagination and has given his enthusiasm and confidence in playing, a much-needed boost. I would happily recommend him to others!

Sean has been teaching my 15 year old son for about 5 months and we have noticed a huge improvement in his playing. Sean is professional, organised, patient and supportive. 'Homework' is given but without pressure and its encouraging to see - with practise - songs and techniques come together. His relaxed and friendly style quickly won over our novice guitar playing son and he now looks forward to the lessons despite having to get up early at the weekends!

Sean was helpful in getting a complete novice into the guitar. He was very patient when I was getting frustrated with my own lack of ability. Also his teaching method does make you feel that you are making progress towards playing the sort of music you are interested in from the first lesson. I am happy to recommend Sean.

Sean has been teaching our 9 year-old son for the last 3 years and has successfully guided him to a string of distinctions in RGT Grades 1 to 3. But that really only tells half of the story, as he has also ensured that the lessons are fun and include music to fit our son’s musical preferences. As a result our son has remained motivated and inspired throughout this entire time, such that guitar practice is fun, not a chore, and he really looks forward to his lessons. If you are looking for an honest, friendly teacher then you really need to look no further and we feel extremely fortunate to have found him.
