Q&As

Confucius is often credited with saying "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. " I am doing what I love. HR is my passion. There is nothing as fulfilling as helping a client solve a problem in a pragmatic human manner. Developing foundational practices that keep them safe, makes me happy. Every day is different and knowing that I am making a positive impact gets me up in the morning.

My family is a conglomeration of small businesses. As a retired police officer I brought a unique skill to the dinner table, the ability to understand law and a keen operational sense. I realized there were so many small businesses out there that deserved protection at a reasonable cost.

Services

This option is an affordable answer for clients to receive Senior Director Level Human Resource support without the prohibitive costs of having a HR Director on site.

Managers often spend a great deal of time dealing with human resources issues instead of focusing on the core elements of the business. The Virtual HR Support (VHRS) provides guidance, one on one consultations, tools, templates and assistance to you and your managers to deal with human resources issues more efficiently and effectively, allowing their attention to get back to managing core operations.

This service includes helping you track Pregnancy Disability Leave (PDL), Parental Leave and a host of other employer notification responsibilities.

The VHRS package includes unlimited email, skype/facetime and phone support. This includes reviewing terminations, discussing employee issues, creating simple documents and standalone policies.

The people-management tools and templates provided by your own Virtual Human Resource Department (VHRD) will enable your organization to implement policies, programs, and practices that will increase the effectiveness and capabilities of your team, enhance your ability to attract and retain high-quality employees and truly give your organization a competitive advantage.

The HR Assessment precedes GCG’s providing onsite or “virtual” support, is designed to determine if the Client’s HR practices are current and efficient, or if gaps exist that could inadvertently open liabilities. The HR Assessment creates a road map for the client and GCG to set priorities and develop a project plan. The HR Assessment is generally a time and money savings project, along with being a clear means of protecting a company from claims or fines.

Additionally, a Human Resources Assessment provides an important step in the compliance and development of a company’s infrastructure; it helps to ensure that the company is protected from problems associated with non-compliance or inaccurate procedures. The HR Assessment enables a client to make needed changes and adjustments based on understanding the laws and principles. The HR Assessment will address the organization as a whole, but also the regulations that apply to the various states where the company has employees working.

A written report covering the assessment’s major findings will be provided to you, a phone conference is then scheduled to answer questions. This report, coupled with the detailed recommendations, will provide a comprehensive listing of corrective actions, which will help management avoid potentially serious liabilities and develop a strategic and compliant go-forward plan.

Once the assessment has been completed GCG would be able to make a recommendation on what course of action would best suit your company’s individual needs and the approximate length of time monthly you would require.

No matter how large or small your organization might be, you can derive significant benefit from having a well-crafted employee handbook that spells out your policies. The handbook should include both mandatory policies and any recommended policies applicable to your workforce.
You may not realize the need for formal and comprehensive policies and procedures until you encounter an unanticipated problem. Do not wait until you find yourself in a lawsuit! Properly written and communicated policies can help you:
• Comply with complex federal and state regulations
• Ensure fair and consistent treatment of employees
• Avoid misunderstandings that could potentially lead to lawsuits
• Orient new employees
• Educate supervisors and managers
• Establish legal protections

GCG consultants give a thorough review to client’s current handbook and makes recommendations based on employer size based on current laws.

In the event the client does not have a handbook, GCG develops the handbook using the Cal Chamber template. Applicable policies in this template are updated to reflect the most recent legislative and regulatory changes, agency decisions, court cases or best practices.

In addition all policies are written by Cal-Chamber Employment Attorneys
