Love the Grand. Great place to dodge in for a cheeky beer and to listen to the pianist or for a meal and a beer in the drawing room.

I’d been looking for somewhere to take my elderly mother out for lunch before Christmas, when she suggested the Grand Hotel in Tynemouth. It was a very good suggestion. The building was originally designed as a summer lodge for the Duchess of Northumberland, so it is splendid, but also on a domestic scale. The Brasserie is a lovely room, with high ceilings and splendid views of the waves crashing in on the Long Sands. The food was delicious - traditional Christmas fare served up with a slight twist - the service was excellent, and with three courses, drinks and coffee for less than £60, it was terrific value. You can park free on one of the streets to the side provided it’s not a weekend or a bank holiday. All great. | More...

Good English breakfast. Very friendly staff. We had a snack meal in Copperfield which is a pub in the corner of the hotel, which was delicious. The hotel boasts a grand staircase. Great location over looking the beach, and a short walk to pubs, cafes and restaurants. There are a handful of free parking outside the hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel. More...

I was at a staff night out, the venue was great and the buffet food was amazing. There was plenty choice for people with different dietary needs. The prices for drinks were different in the function room where I was compared to the pub upstairs by 50p. I enjoyed the night and the staff were also really nice More...

Fabulous Hotel, the decor, the ambiance, the comfort, the staff, the food, the twinkling lights, the music. My first visit and a long hopeful wait and it is everything i was hoping it would be. So o many british sea side hotels are run down, in need of a lot of TLC. NOT THE GRAND, it goes to show, simply perfect and i know now i could comftably come as a lone traveller. More...

Just visited your hotel today with a group of female friends. We had your Christmas lunch menu and I can only say it was delicious. All courses were beautifully presented. Between us we covered almost the full choice of dishes and no one was disappointed.|The table was very nicely decorated with crackers etc. Your staff were very attentive and served us with a smile. We were able to linger a while after we had finished the meal which allowed everything to settle before we left. We spent approximately 3 hours ther and at no time were we rushed.|Very good value at £24.95 ,a little extra for coffee and mince pie.|Would definitely recommend trying here whether you are local or a visitor to the area. Well done to your staff . Keep up the good work. More...

We have had our staff Christmas night out for a meal at The Grand Hotel. We can not fault the place at all. The meal was amazing and plentiful. The staff were all lovely and such a beautiful hotel to spend time in with stunning views.||We stayed the night in one of the sea view rooms, they are kept clean and very comfortable, plenty tea/coffee facilities in the room. We have attended The Grand for several different functions over the years and have never had a bad experience there. It truly is one of my favourite hotels. Thank you Grand Hotel. The Grand Hotel general areas are very elegant and has a lot of history. We stayed in the Laurel House building next door which is part of the hotel and a very short walk from the hotel entrance (20 seconds) Laurel house has 3 floors with rooms facing the sea and some facing the back. We had a family room (2 bedrooms) on the top floor (no lift) which unfortunately faced the back but was only £77 for the 2 of us including breakfast which was very nice. The bathroom was smallish but had a bath in it. Although there were other rooms occupied in the building we never heard a soul.||||We stayed here because we were going to see a local band in a nearby venue 10 mins walk away. Check in was easy and the staff we encountered were all very courteous. We would definitely stay here again at this price or similar. More...

I checked in after 4 nights in hospital for a bit of a rest. Beautiful and comfy room and even though I hadn't paid for a sea view room I could just about see the ocean anyway. I ordered room service which was delicious and quick and had a fabulous sleep. Half an hour before checkout I asked for a late checkout and they were totally fine with that. In general it was a lovely stay.||||However, when I turned up for breakfast, I was slightly taken aback; I was wearing a very purple sling and obviously did not have the use of one arm. Whilst the food was pleasant (not as yummy as my evening's burger) not one person asked if I needed help. I navigated the cold buffet solo despite about three members of staff passing me. If I'd seriously needed it I would have asked and to be fair my server brought me orange juice when I asked her to, I was just slightly surprised nobody offered.||||Having said that, I had a fantastic stay overall and will definitely be returning. Staff exemplify "northern hospitality."||||Though owing to a conference I could not get the four-poster suite I had last year, with its stunning beach view, the room was quiet and comfortable. The restaurant is very good - tough as is typical, the waiter vanished when we wanted our bill!||||This is a splendid - grand! - old building, and while the hotel isn't big-city glamorous, it feels like coming into a home. Stayed again this year. There was a wedding going on, so I was unable to book the same spacious room as last, but what I got was clean and comfortable. Staff are enormously helpful and friendly, the beach is out the door, the view is amazing, and the hotel defines old-fashioned class. This is NOT a glitzy big-city hotel, but if you value service, comfort and old-fashioned care of the guest - this is it. Back in April, I hope. More...
