The people at Gordon + Greineder were a tremendous asset for our new home design in St. Helena. We started from scratch on a 15 acre parcel with panoramic views, and worked for about 4 years together. Eileen Gordon and Eva Davis were our lead architects. They were creative, professional, timely, efficient, responsive and on budget. I can't say enough about their extraordinary creativity and responsiveness to make the design suitable to the site and yet make it our home. And they were very effective in coordinating the team of professionals necessary for the work, including civil and structural engineers and suppliers of all kinds. It has been my great pleasure to work with the team of Eileen Gordon and Bill Greineder for over 12 years; we have done at least 5 projects together, some estates of 12,000 sq. feet and up, while not letting you down with a small remodel. They never disappoint, I have seen them turn a detail around in a day in an emergency and have it be genius. Recommending them to clients always makes me look like a hero. They are not the “my way or no way” type of architects. We had an extremely positive experience working with Gordon and Greineder. They drafted multiple sets of plans for our home in San Francisco and helped us negotiate with our neighbors around a remodel that worked for everyone. From the very first set of plans to the last, their unique creative skills and knowledge were evident. Their vision or our new home was always beyond anything we could have ever imagined and each set of plans offered new features to be excited about. We began with a very large remodel, but decided to scale way back to accommodate our neighbors. So our circumstances and needs were quite complicated and we were so grateful to Eileen Gordon for her patience, support and endless ability to come up with creative and exciting solutions.

We have almost completed our remodel and although the circumstances prevented us from ultimately pursuing the house of our dreams, we are truly delighted with the results. Eileen and the rest of the team have been incredibly patient with us and they have adjusted their designs to meet our needs perfectly each time. Bill Greineder came to us highly recommended by trusted friends. We had big expectations, and Bill delivered and surpassed them! Humble to the core, Bill is a rare combination of architectural genious...and a really nice guy. When we had building challenges, Bill always came up with creative solutions that were not only beautiful, but also mindful of costs and practical needs. He is an excellent listener. You will be hard-pressed to find an architect as talented and as committed to your needs and desires. We've been living in our Los Altos Hills home that Bill designed for nearly four years now. Everywhere I look, I can remember how Bill steered me to this decision and away from that one. He was never wrong. If we built another house, we'd do it again with Bill. Over the course of many projects you start to learn how Architectural Firms think, how and what they prioritize, how they bridge the gaps between their clients and their suppliers. Working with Eileen and Bill has been nothing but a positive experience. We found their approach to selection of materials to be driven not solely by aesthetics but by a passion to understand the history of the materials. We have visited suppliers in Italy together and they were eager to learn the history of stone, or terracotta and how its origins shapes its uses. The design process is always collaborative - with Gordon + Greineder providing detailed visions but they are receptive to suggestions and modifications if it serves their Client's interests. More...
