Our essential oil team used the meeting room and dining area at Goldmoor. The meeting room was lovely with a gorgeous view of the Mississippi River. The lunches for both days were delicious. The hosts were so kind and warm and were eager to meet all of our needs. I would love to return again and enjoy the inn with my husband. More...

The service is 11 out of 10. Everyone was friendly and personable. The Inn is very private, and the view is beautiful. The owners gave great recommendations on how to explore Galena, as we were visiting for the first time. The room was spacious and immaculate. They thought of everything that you could possibly need or want. Dinner was amazing. The dining room was cozy and romantic. The service impeccable, and the food was heavenly. They have an amazing chef. We opted to have breakfast served in our room. My husband preferred a different type of breakfast and they graciously changed his option. Breakfast was prompt (9am per our request), the staff was as friendly and set up our breakfast for us before she left. Again, the food was amazing. We definitely plan on returning for a longer stay. We had our rehearsal dinner here, and stayed for 3 nights after our wedding in the Mississippi and Covington suite, we absolutely loved the space, and the hospitality was incredible. Birgit and Slobo are incredibly accommodating and very friendly! They truly care about your experience, and definitely do a great job! We can’t wait to come back in the Winter! I forgot to mention the breakfast and dinners were incredible, Josh knocked every meal out of the park. More...

Our stay was amazing! Already planning on going back. The service and food are second to none and the owners had such an amazing vision for this place. Our unobstructed views of the Mississippi River were breathtaking and so incredibly peaceful. I have not felt this relaxed in years. We had our rehearsal dinner here and the experience is going to be one memory that I hold close. So much love and work was put into it and no detail was left unturned, not only at the party but the suites themselves. Highly recommend Goldmoor Inn to anyone looking for a romantic getaway. I have not been this relaxed, ever! More...

We stayed at the Goldmoor Inn back in May and loved it, so we went back this past weekend! This place is SO charming and beautiful! The Innkeepers are such nice people and the service is exceptional! The suites overlook the Mississippi River and a horse stable. The views are amazing! Such a peaceful place...it is out in the country, but not far from downtown Galena...perfect for a weekend escape! I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to plan a romantic weekend in Galena! We’ve stayed in both the Mississippi and Turret suites...they are both gorgeous and we struggled to decide which one we love more! More...

Another stay completed for another anniversary and had a wonderful time. The Goldmoor never fails to impress. We met the owners this time and found they are dedicated innkeepers. If you are looking for a quiet and secluded retreat, this place fits the bill. Breakfasts are awesome and can be delivered to your room. LOVE the English Country Cottage!! This place is simply amazing!  Every little detail is taken care off.  The grounds are perfect, the rooms are beautiful.  The staff is amazing!  Let's talk about the view! OMG! It is simply wonderful.  My wife and I have been going to Galena several times a year for over 20 years.  This is hands down the the best place we have stayed and the best restaurant in the area. I would go as far to say one if the best hotels/Inns I have stayed in, in my life. I travel over 100 nights a year. I have been to 22 different countries and 47 states.  It is one of the best. All this and it's only a short 2.5 hour drive from Chicago!I see some cheap people give negative reviews. Please stay away! More...

Amazing little place! My husband and I booked a 1 day getaway. I wasn't sold on the place since it was so far from town, but it was amazingly quiet and private. We arrived, and there were like 4 cars in the parking lot. Checked in, and there is only one person in the lobby. Found out that after a certain time at night, we'll be alone in the hotel with any other guests. No one stays all night. I was nervous about this, but it was great! It wasn't a busy weekend, so I think there were two other rooms booked with us, 6 people total in this giant hotel. Now, we do need to talk about the creepy hallway at the back of the room. There's a front door to some of the rooms, and back door to some of them. Our room had this weird, long hallway in the back which wound around to the bathroom, then there was another exterior door to a dark, creepy hallway. After a few minutes, we realized that this is where room service comes from, because the proprietor knocked and had a bucket of ice for us. So yes, it's creepy, but it's also handy! Anyway, we went into town, hung out for a while, came back, and the whole hotel was deserted. It was SO nice to stay someplace where you aren't constantly woken up in the night by room doors slamming and people talking in the hallway. We slept like babies! Woke up the morning, had a delicious breakfast while we watched eagles swooping along the horizon, and took off back home. We'll be back, Goldmoor Inn! Next time we'll eat at the restaurant for dinner, too! More...

Fantastic Food!  Service and small touches could be better.  I know this place is striving for 5 star service and all around experience.  They are so close.  We had dinner in the restaurant on a Friday night.  They place was mostly empty which is too bad because the food was absolutely wonderful.  I had the beef wellington which was superb!  My boyfriend asked for a cup of coffee and didn't get it and had to ask again.  Also he had food allergies (gluten and dairy) and we discussed but they served the baked potato with butter on it.  Then that was the last potato so they had to make something different.  Also, leftovers should have been boxed and put in a bag, we had to ask for a bag to carry it.  We were lucky and met the owner to see what the room looked like, they look very very nice and I would like to stay here some time.  Hope they can get their service in the restaurant up a bit and they will be the 5 stars they wish to be. We stayed Sunday through Wednesday to take advantage of the free Tuesdays with three night booking. We chose the Mississippi suite. It was huge, clean, well furnished, and had fantastic views of the Mississippi River. The whirlpool and fireplace were a nice touch. Breakfasts were generous portions, delicious and served in your room if you wanted. We were surprised how quickly it came after we ordered. We had dinner one night at the restaurant and upgraded to the chef’s table in the kitchen where you can chat with the chefs as they cook. What a lovely experience. The scallop starter was so tasty but my favorite was the citrus salad. My husband had the Beef Wellington and I had the lamb Osso Bucco. Both were amazing. Not cheap but worth every penny. We just returned from our 3 day Getaway to The Goldmoor. We had an incredible time!!! We stayed in the Turret suite. It was absolutely gorgeous! It was so clean and spacious, we didn’t want to leave! The owner Mrs. Birgit was very kind and accommodating. She made sure everything went perfectly. We dined at the Goldmoor restaurant and the food and atmosphere was amazing!! I had the Beef Wellington and my Hubby had the Braised Lamb and they were PERFECTION!! Worth every penny!! We also enjoyed our couples massage! The staff, from housekeeping to room service was professional and courteous. We literally felt at home. My husband and I desperately needed this getaway. We’ve been married nearly 9 years and never got away more than 1 night anywhere, so we knew that wherever we chose had to be perfect- and the Goldmoor was just that!! We will definitely be returning. My fiancé and I wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of our hectic lives in Chicago for the weekend but didn't want to travel too far. From the moment we arrived on Friday evening to our send off on Sunday morning was an unbelievably amazing experience. We stayed in the King Arthur suite overlooking the beautiful Mississippi River where we absorbed the stunning views while enjoying a Charcuterie plate from cheese/meats we bought in downtown Galena! The fireplace, whirlpool tub, super comfortable king bed, and flat screen TV make it hard to even leave your suite. Our dinner in the Goldmoor dining room on Friday evening was one of the best meals we have ever had and we are self proclaimed foodies who travel the US and overseas on the hunt for tasty meals! We had the bone marrow, duck, beef wellington, and a chocolate decadence for dessert. Chef came out to make sure everything was to our liking so that was a wonderful treat to meet the talent behind the magic! Our server Ashley was SO personable and made great food and wine recommendations. The owners Birgit and Slobo were the sweetest people we have ever met who love to share stories and make you feel right at home...meeting them alone makes a trip to the Goldmoor worthwhile. Our breakfast served in our room every morning was absolutely delicious and hit all the right spots in your tummy! We also enjoyed an hour long couples massage which took our relaxation state to a whole other level! Last but certainly not least, the grounds and castle itself are truly gorgeous...even in the winter when we visited. As soon as you pull into the drive it feels as though you are transported to the European countryside during a more simpler time when time isn't of the essence! My fiancé and I are already planning our next trip to the Goldmoor Inn and have already booked a suite for my parents to celebrate their anniversary this summer as a surprise. I would recommend the Goldmoor Innto anyone and everyone 365 days a year! You would be doing yourself a disservice not visiting this enchanted estate~ Prost! More...

I've visited the Goldmoor twice. Both times were incredible experiences - from a dining and hospitality perspective. Most recently our staff came to the Goldmoor and was part of a Chef's Table experience. The entire experience was a showstopper. The head chef did some prep for us, explained some of their signature dishes, and provided a feast of a buffet for our team. It was a Christmas party to remember and I'd highly recommend any team to try it. More...

My boyfriend and I stayed the weekend of November 16, 2018 in the Arthur Suite.  The suite was gorgeous. We loved staying in the room and struggled to want to leave to visit Galena. Breakfast delivered to the room really helped spark the romantic weekend for two and I highly recommend it. The dinner at the Inn requires a reservation and is pricey but worth every penny.  I got the crab cakes with scallops and it was the best I've ever had next to places fresh off the sea.  Two meals plus drinks was over $150. We also did a couples massage after breakfast on Saturday morning and the masseuses did a phenomenal job.  They were kind, focused on the right areas, and we enjoyed it. If you're looking to save money, the massages are a pretty penny so might not be for you but if you have the money to spare I'd recommend it. My boyfriend and I saved up for the weekend expecting things to be expensive so we were prepared. The couples massage was $210. Overall, we 100% plan to return but will have to save again for a weekend like that. However, it's now one of our favorite weekends in our memories because it was gorgeous and we got to take care of us in a beautiful place with an exceptional staff. More...

We recently stayed here for a weekend trip to Galena. The Goldmoor Inn was beautiful. It has some amazing views is a charming bed and breakfast. Our room was very spacious and clean. I loved that there was a table set up by the window for breakfast, and there was a nice deck outside our room to sit and relax on. We didn't eat at the restaurant for dinner, but did have the included breakfast delivered to our room in the morning and it was delicious. We came down the winding country roads for our 10th anniversary, and this place did not disappoint.  A quiet, romantic ambiance with lovely, genuine service and hospitality.  The food was also excellent.  We've enjoyed Michelin star restaurants in Chicago, and Goldmoor could easily compete.  After being in the fast pace of the city, it was a welcome retreat to a slower pace with more personable service, and outstanding food to back it all up.  The local whisky and vodka were also great twists on our usual cocktails.  Well done all around. I don't review a lot, basically only if something was stellar or horrid. Thankfully, this was beyond stellar. The scene: 8 year anniversary, planned to camp, forecast of a weekend of rain, days away. Naturally, I scramble and pray something good is out there. Lo and behold, The Goldmoor. Very expensive but I take the risk. The result? An unforgettable weekend and an elated Lady. When you go in town and people ask where you're staying, and you mention the Goldmoor, expect to have women swoon at the romance you two must be living in. I had no idea, the whole area did though and they know you're in for a treat.1- aesthetic: 9.5. Think oldschool Europe with modern touches and an absolutely stellar elevated grounds overlooking diving birds and butterflies above the Mississippi at sunset. It could have only been better if their was a live band playing string instruments on the premises haha.2- accommodations. 9.2. To go above you'd have to shell out an extra $100 a night. Massive rooms, a giant bathtub jacuzzi in the room itself, not even in the bathroom. Bathroom is massive. Each room has a full kitchen. The bed was wonderful (California king).3- dining: dinner 9.5, complementary breakfast 7.6. I've been around the world and tastes it along the way. I actually keep a list of my best dining experiences since childhood, this cracked into the top 20.4- staff: 85- owners 9.5. Charming German couple who take such pride in what they do it permeates through the walls. Every detail is them. They talk to you and not at you. They are friendly and the accent adds to it haha.6- Galena: 8.8. Didn't know what to expect, not what I expected, vastly superior. Think Appalachian terrain with educated friendly people. Civil war era downtown construction along the Mississippi. Great shops and food. All local, all ran with love and passion.Do it. Or don't. Genuinely a mistake if you don't though. More...

The accommodations, the breakfast, the peacefulness, and most of all your hospitality while we were there. Could not have asked for any more..... P.S. We stayed here in the "Lancelot Suite" for the weekend 3/3/17-3/5/17 & we enjoyed every minute of our stay! Goldmoor is even more beautiful than the pictures show it to be & the hosts are very warm & inviting. We were pleasantly surprised at the size of our suite & all the extra homey touches that were in there such as: the 10 cup coffee pot with several flavored creamers, bubble bath for the jacuzzi tub, comfy robes for each of us, freshly baked cookies each morning, waters in the refrigerators & many other special touches. We met some wonderful people who were also staying here & exchanged numbers to keep in touch. You just never know who you might meet while you are staying here! If you have some extra time while you are here, drive into Iowa & go to Mines of Spain State Park in Dubuque & go to the Horseshoe Bluffs. They are Stunning!!! We definitely plan on returning to Goldmoor Inn again sometime soon. More...

I had a week long stay at Goldmoor Inn during the very cold winter month of January however I soon forgot about winter and enjoyed my luxurious suites hot tub and fireplace. Wrapped up in a robe I ate their gigantic cookies and enjoyed the smoothest of coffees. There is a nice size fridge and microwave in the kitchenette so I could have never left the room however the area has breathtaking views of the Mississippi River. I was there to paint artworks for a week and the heated glass gazebo worked perfectly for that activity. Every meal from breakfast to dinner was excellent. Their signature dish the Beef Wellington is something they should be proud of. My hosts soon became my friends. Highly recommend this getaway anytime of the year. So much history, nature and luxury! One to visit and you can snow ski right next door in the winter months or go sight seeing and shopping in the historic town of Galena. More...

Very beautiful property, country feel. All the employees we encountered were nice and helpful. I wanted to love this place but it had some disappointments. For a 3 hour drive I would say it's not worth it. There is nothing to do in the town and we had some bad experiences trying to find places to eat. The hotel description said "in room *hot* coffee and cookies, robes, hot towels, fire place, jetted tub..." I imagined warm cookies  and fresh coffee being brought to the door. Mostly because they used the word "hot" coffee and it all sounded so luxurious and is very expensive. But it was two room temp cookies in a bag on the table. Nice and tasty but not what I had imagined. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. It's not modern. The faucet on the tub is a bit squeaky and the shower fan rattles-- not a big deal but just not the ambiance I was imagining for our anniversary. They were very accommodating with our dietary needs as vegetarians who don't eat eggs. They made us a delicious sautéed vegetable dish with fruit. Wish we would have asked for potatoes and toast but not a big deal. The description says "in room dining" but when we got there they talked as if we would be sitting in the dining room and I had to speak up about how the in room dining worked. We had to call and make arrangements if we wanted our food to be brought to our room. To be clear, the reason I may sound so picky is because my husband and I searched for a really luxurious hotel with good amenities. We wanted to live it up. This place isn't cheap so I had high expectations based on what they had written. Another thing that was a bummer was the restaurant was closed the evening we stayed so that wasn't an option. Not a huge deal though. We used the groupon deal which saved us some money but was still very expensive for one night. One other thing that was unusual was when we got back from dinner a little after 9, the front desk was dark and I wondered if we needed ice or anything where/how we would get it. Most hotels have a 24/7 front desk person, at least in my experience. I ended up trying a few codes on the phone in our room and got ahold of someone to order breakfast which you don't get to pick from a menu by the way. I'm not complaining just wanting to make the expectations clear. More...

We love staying at B&Bs for quick weekend getaways because they feel more friendly and relaxing than hotels, which we spend too many nights at for work travel. We picked this one based on online reviews and overall, had a nice stay with no complaints. The B&Bs on the coasts seem to go above and beyond in terms of warmth and welcome, as well as the extra details, so I guess we have a pretty high benchmark. Goldmoor Inn is located in such a quiet part of Galena, driving distance from the town center. It overlooks the river and has a large garden upfront to enjoy nature and solitude. Our room was regal and spacious with a very nice and large bath tub. The breakfast service was quick with the regular courses and options- juice, coffee, yogurt parfait, entree (eggs or waffles). We recommend the place to anyone looking for a quiet and private getaway. More...

A group of my girlfriends and I went to Galena for a golf weekend. We decided to dine at Goldmoor and when we arrived this place awed me for its charm. The place is gorgeous with wonderful views of the Mississippi River! The entrance door was impressively beautiful! We were greeted by a friendly German host and he was very engaging with us. We had the Paella, Filet Mignon, Pork Chops and the Beef Wellington. The Beef Wellington is wonderfully cooked and maybe the best one I ever had.  I strongly recommend the Beef Wellington entree above any. The other dishes were good but not memorable. The food presentation was sterling. The service staff was very friendly. Although for a fine dining, I would have the service staff dress up a little better instead of blue jeans, t-shirts, tight and sneakers. More...

We stayed at the Goldmoor Inn during the last week in February and had such a great stay. We stayed in the Chef's Quarters and thought they were great. It was a large suite with 3 distinct areas, great views or the river, and a very large deck.  Friday we had the Trio Bruschetta and the Farfalle Pomodoro and loved the flavors, colors, and freshness of the ingredients. Saturday morning we went on the Bald Eagle winter flight tour and saw around 50 Bald Eagles. That evening we did the Chef's Table dining experience. The Chef paired up with Blaum Brother's Distillery and the bartender matched up spirits and cocktails with each of the Chef's courses. Happily, we started with the Trio Bruschetta again. The next course, we skipped because we're vegan and the Chef gave us some fresh salsa and chips that had a very savory flavor. The other diners seemed to very much enjoy their Maple Bourbon Glazed Neuskes Bacon. Third was a Short Rib Rattlesnake Chili with Blaum Brother's Hellfyre Vodka for which the Chef made both the conventional version and a vegan version for us. The next course was Knottor Bourbon-infused Diver Scallaps, and the Chef had prepared a tofu version for us that tasted so good. The largest course was Knotter Bourbon Pineapple Chipotle BBQ Beef & Chicken Skewers over a rice pilaf. And again, he kindly made fantastic flavored Tofu and Pineapple Skewers for us non-meat eaters. And the final course was Handmade Chocolate Bourbon Truffles which were so rich and thick and yummy. All of this wonderful food was paired with great drinks. The Blaum Brother's talked about each spirit and how it was created and their commitment to simple purity in developing flavors. The bartender showed us how to make each cocktail that she made while explaining why she chose it to pair with what we were eating. The Chef explained how each course was made and talked about the Goldmoor's commitment to fresh pure ingredients and freshly made foods. Being vegan foodies our really fantastic meals are few and far between and we remember all the great ones and talk about them. These were truly fantastic meals that we will talk about for months, and maybe years. We met some great people, ate some fantastic food, enjoyed ourselves, laughed a lot, and had a genuinely wonderful visit. Thank you! More...

We came here on Valentines' Day and had a great experience. The staff were really charming and accommodating (and gave me a rose! ). My husband and I both loved the food. They gave us an amuse bouche to start--some delicious pickles. Our server recommended a Cabernet to me--Goose Ridge--and I thought it was really smooth and easy-drinking. Really nice salad for Valentines Day and crab cake (light and flavorful). Others have recommended the hot bread with lavender/honey butter--do not miss it! Delicious. We also liked the dessert, a citrus cheesecake that was both fluffy and rich (but not heavy like a typical cheesecake). More...

Hard to imagine Illinois could harbor such beauty, but the Northwestern part of the state is really filled with lovely vistas of farms, crops, ponds, trees, lakes,  and yes the mighty Mississippi.  Galena is a fun town too filled with history, charm, shops, eateries and restaurants.  Goldmoor definitely has one of the prime spots in the area.  The drive in reminded us of a country estate somewhere in England. We did not lodge here, but did have a party of 12 for a special birthday dinner.  The private room with windows on three sides was the perfect place to enjoy our meal.  The huge square table was just right for our group.  We started out sampling the cheese and chutney plate, grecian salad in cucumber cups and the lamb chop lollipops.  Although none of the appetizers stopped us in our tracks flavor wise, they were beautifully presented and definitely stimulated our taste buds for more. The chilled beet soup was a bit of a surprise to find on their menu, but I couldn't pass it up.  It was a warm evening, and a cold soup seemed to be the logical next step.  I enjoyed the soup very much although it differed significantly from the borschts I've had in the past.  Expecting small chunks of vegetables in a light pink buttermilk broth, I was surprised to see this creamy foamy cup before me.  Their version was more like a beet bisque, where all the individual ingredients were whipped up so that you only had one smooth texture encompassing the taste of he beets, yogurt, dill, scallion and cucumber in one spoonful.  A nice surprise. The whole menu was quite small - with only 8 entrees to choose from which included fish, pork, seafood, and beef.  I opted for the beef wellington as their version incorporated a mushroom duxelle rather than the usual liver pate.  I had not had this dish in years. The beef arrived as promised and the steak was done to a perfect medium rare.  My only complaint was the incredibly large mound of mashed potatoes that the filet was perched on.  For one thing, it wouldn't occur to me to pair this kind of starch with an already rich pastry wrapped beef.  As I cut into the meat, the potatoes just went everywhere making the initial presentation look like a disaster.  Surely a more delicate side would have made this entree shine.Service was great.  We were never rushed or hovered over, which made the dining experience a pleasure.  Our room had access to an outdoor patio which overlooked the Mississippi River - a glorious spot for photos or just taking in the view.  The food might have needed some tweaking, but the beautiful surroundings courtesy of mother nature needed no help at all. This was a surprise stay to celebrate my birthday so my review might be a little biased but only slightly.Atmosphere: Like something you would see on a WTTW broadcast. Charming might be the right word. This place looks like a mini castle that is tucked away in the hills of Galena. Service: Attentive but not smothering. Just perfect.Food: Unreal good. Bone-in ribeye that was out of this world and the Beef Wellington was the best I have tasted.Massage: 1st massage I have ever had and it was spectacular. We have been going to Goldmoor Inn for a few years now and it is just a fun, romantic place to getaway.  It is only a few hours from Bloomington and a beautiful scenic drive in the fall.  They have a restaurant at the Goldmoor, great wine list, full bar and delicious desserts.  When you arrive they show you where you are staying and if there are some suites empty you might get lucky enough to peek in them!  There are two freshly baked cookies in your room!  We have stayed in quite a few suites and all have been great.  Fireplaces, you can order champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to your room, jacuzzis...need I say more.  Come on if you are wanting to spice up your relationship or just getaway and sleep in a big comfy bed, this is your place.  We always do the champagne and chocolate tour and it is great!  They take you to all the places in downtown galena so you can drink as much as you want cause there is no driving for you and your mate!  They are about fifteen minutes away from downtown Galena which I think is nice.  We like to check out the shops, eat out and then go back to the Goldmoor and rest.  You can rent bikes there too.  Last time we were there, there was a wedding and it was beautiful.  Just a nice quiet place to relax and well...you know ;0)  Oh if you have AT&T you will not have service the whole time...and update your GPS because sometimes finding the place is a biotch!  After you stay once you get a great discount too!!!!!Oh I meant to say something about there breakfast!  They will deliver it right to your room and it is always hot and sooooo good! We went to the Goldmoor for a mini-moon before we leave for a full honey moon this winter and we weren't disappointed! My aunt and uncle had said the food was amazing and that there was a chef's table in the kitchen that we could sit at, so when I called to book, that is what we booked!  I'll admit, it was a bit awkward at first when we walked into the kitchen and there was a huge table for like 10 and we were the only ones, front and center with the chef's.  After a few minutes, the chef's quickly made us feel more comfortable and we were all chatting and enjoying ourselves.  The food was outstanding.  They made us a beef ceviche that was the best thing I have eaten in a very long time!  Now just to clarify, we live in Chicago and eat out about once a week and always at different restaurants, so in my book, saying that this was the best thing I have had in a long time, goes a long way!  They cut us a piece for fresh honeycomb direct from the farmers market, made us a salad with homemade dressing.  The butternut squash soup with braised pork belly... to die for!  Our entrees were beef wellington (not your traditional with an overload of pastry) and the stuffed pork chop were mouthwatering! Can I come up with any more adjectives?  Not likely but I will tell you that we filled up so much on each and every morsel that was put in front of us that we were only able to take 2 bites of our entrees (boxed them to go) and had to pass on dessert.   The food is definitely 5 stars and the only reason that I didn't give the experience a 5 star and gave a 4 instead, is because the service, while good, was a bit slow while being overattentive at times.  Does that even make sense?  :)  The other downside?  The drive!  Holy cow!  It is on this very dark and very windy country road and no one tells you this! :)  I am sure it is beautiful during the day but quite treacherous at night. Several years ago, I took a trip to a the Goldmoor Inn with a young lady who I ended up proposing to in one of the suites - to my great joy she accepted.  Every year since then (except for our honeymoon), we've returned and tried a different suite, or cottage and have NEVER been disappointed. The Innkeepers are super-friendly and extremely accommodating.  They make a great gourmet breakfast which my wife thoroughly enjoys, but I'm more of a "pancakes and toast" kind of guy - once we let the Innkeepers know that, they've always taken care of both of us...The rooms are well-kept and decorated.  The kitchenettes have microwaves, big mini-fridges (3.5 cu ft?), sink, coffee pot with real ground coffee in the urns on the counter, dishes/silverware (which housekeeping will wash), popcorn, hot chocolate, sodas/water (complimentary), and an ice bucket which they fill each day...The rooms have HUGE comfortable beds, a 2-person hot tub, nice TV w/satellite service, great bathrooms w/shower/tub...  They are extremely quiet, and we've never heard anyone in any other room while we were in any of ours...The grounds are manicured, and when you pull up to the Goldmoor property and pass through the stone pillars at the end of the drive, you feel all your cares and stress slipping away.  As you look out over the bluff down into the Mississippi River valley and watch the Eagles floating on the air currents, you can't help but relax....The on-site restaurant has FANTASTIC fare, service, and views.  The soup was wonderful, and I had one of the greatest 16 oz bone-in rib eyes that I've ever had outside of Chicago.  They presented a tray of deserts, but being the picky guy that I am nothing appealed to me - so they created something for me on-the-fly - a simply devine chocolate mousse, carmel, chocolate sauce, nut dish that was just ridiculously good...  My wife's meal was equally as wonderful. My wife and I always get a couple's massage.  To say that I'm relaxed when I walk out of the massage is a complete understatement. I swear that I've achieved a meditative state during those massages... and I walk out like silly putty...  After that, climbing into the hot tub in the room, and then slipping into one of the luxurious spa robes is simply wonderful...Do you have to drive from the Goldmoor Inn for 10 minutes to get into town? Yeah.  But that's a total plus as far as I'm concerned....If you're looking for a super-luxurious place to stay at a great price, and with Innkeepers who would go to the moon for you if you asked, stay at the Goldmoor... My wife and I were looking for a quick getaway and found the Goldmoor Inn more than accommodating. The room was very large and clean. All the furnishings were very tasteful. We had dinner and breakfast during our stay. I'll agree that the prices were a little high and the menu a bit limited. I would have liked to see more local ingredients. They are surrounded by farm country, why not promote the local fare? Overall the food was very good. I had a pork belly app that was outstanding, but my chicken and pasta dish fell flat for me. I was a little disappointed with breakfast. For the price we paid to stay there, and have the meal included, it would have been nice to have a made to order breakfast. We got what was served, and while it was good, if I'm spending upwards of $300.00 a night I want something on my plate other than bread (French toast). We may return, we may not. They could really benefit if they had a wine tasting? The only issue is, you are pretty far from anything. So unless you are golfing or you plan on staying in for your entire stay... you are 20-30 min away from anything. Seems they could keep people entertained if they offered even a free glass/ bottle of wine for guests to drink and enjoy the surroundings. More...

First of all, let me start with the arrival to the Goldmoor....the drive up the moutain with the winding roads and beautiful views makes the anticipation of the arrival SO exciting, as you round the bend and see the Goldmoor for the first time, it is really something. ...like a manor sitting in the middle of nowhere, we knew we were in for something special. When we checked in, the owner Patricia (Pat) came out to say hello and was so warm and friendly.  We then walked into our suite and it was like being in a first class hotel with all the charm of a remote location.  Beautifully decorated and comfortable with all the charm one would look for in Galena, but with all the modern things two people from the city would need to not feel too far away from home.  The breakfast delivered each morning was wonderful!  The grounds are spectacular and are so well manicured you can't help but feel like you are on an English countryside estate.  This is BY FAR the best place we have stayed in Galena.  Close to town and so private you know you won't be bothered.  Now on to the EVEN BETTER service than you could EVER get at a hotel.....On Friday night we decided to go to town and on our way back the car broke down on the middle of the dark road.  We called the police and they came and called the tow truck.  While we were waiting, Pat came driving down the hill on her way  home from the Goldmoor.  She stopped and made sure we were OK, offered to stay with us and offered us a ride back to the Inn.  Since we needed to wait for the tow truck and had a police officer with us, we felt OK, so she (heistantly) left us there - it seemed like she felt like she was abadoning us - it was VERY sweet and very appreciated! The next day - without a car and a little down - Pat called us to make sure we were OK and to see if there was anything she or her husband (Thomas) could do.  We regrouped and told her that we appreciated it but we really just needed to find out if there was a car service available to take us to our car (which was towed to Dubuque, IA).....she said there was not point in renting a car - instead her husband drove us to Dubuque and made sure we had things to do to keep us busy all day while we waited.  WHERE ELSE WOULD THIS HAPPEN?!?!?!  Their open arms and total care for us made us feel like our Mom and Dad were making sure the kids were OK.  They were wonderful and besides providing an amazing place to stay, they provided us with the TLC that two people going through a VERY stressful relaxing weekend way would need. I would recomend the Goldmoor Inn not only for the amazing rooms and ammenities, but also for the charming graciousness of the hosts!  Thanks to Tom and Pat our weekend was not a total bust and we will FOR SURE be returning to this amazing place!!!! My husband and I celebrated our first anniversary here and loved it! We enjoyed the hustle and bustle of downtown Galena, and it was perfect to spend the evening/morning several miles outside the city. The location is beautiful - right off the Mississippi. Gorgeous sunsets, quiet, and great service. We enjoyed a romantic, fixed menu dinner in their restaurant - everything was truly delicious! We stayed in the Mississippi and really liked the fireplace, jacuzzi tub, and amazing views. The decor was a bit too folksy - would have rather preferred more chic/modern taste. In room, complimentary coffee, cookies, frig/drinks, and phone service. Owners are very pleasant and the grounds are spectacular. The morning breakfast was brought to our room; hot and tasty! The overall experience was great, however the high price makes it a questionable place to return to (which is why I awarded it 4/5 stars). More...
