We had our rehearsal dinner here, and stayed for 3 nights after our wedding in the Mississippi and Covington suite, we absolutely loved the space, and the hospitality was incredible. Our stay was amazing! Already planning on going back. The service and food are second to none and the owners had such an amazing vision for this place. Our unobstructed views of the Mississippi River were breathtaking and so incredibly peaceful. I have not felt this relaxed in years. We had our rehearsal dinner here and the experience is going to be one memory that I hold close. We stayed at the Goldmoor Inn back in May and loved it, so we went back this past weekend! This place is SO charming and beautiful! The Innkeepers are such nice people and the service is exceptional! The suites overlook the Mississippi River and a horse stable. The views are amazing! Such a peaceful place...it is out in the country, but not far from downtown Galena...perfect for a weekend escape! I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to plan a romantic weekend in Galena! The Goldmoor Inn is a wonderful place to get away to enjoy a romantic evening in a beautiful place. The Suites are spacious, relaxing and the Mississippi Suite has beautiful views. Another stay completed for another anniversary and had a wonderful time. The Goldmoor never fails to impress. We met the owners this time and found they are dedicated innkeepers. This place is simply amazing!  Every little detail is taken care off.  The grounds are perfect, the rooms are beautiful.  The staff is amazing!  Let's talk about the view! OMG! It is simply wonderful.  My wife and I have been going to Galena several times a year for over 20 years.  This is hands down the the best place we have stayed and the best restaurant in the area. I would go as far to say one if the best hotels/Inns I have stayed in, in my life. I travel over 100 nights a year. I have been to 22 different countries and 47 states.  It is one of the best. All this and it's only a short 2.5 hour drive from Chicago!I see some cheap people give negative reviews. Please stay away! More...

Amazing little place! My husband and I booked a 1 day getaway. I wasn't sold on the place since it was so far from town, but it was amazingly quiet and private. We arrived, and there were like 4 cars in the parking lot. Checked in, and there is only one person in the lobby. Found out that after a certain time at night, we'll be alone in the hotel with any other guests. No one stays all night. I was nervous about this, but it was great! It wasn't a busy weekend, so I think there were two other rooms booked with us, 6 people total in this giant hotel. Now, we do need to talk about the creepy hallway at the back of the room. There's a front door to some of the rooms, and back door to some of them. Our room had this weird, long hallway in the back which wound around to the bathroom, then there was another exterior door to a dark, creepy hallway. After a few minutes, we realized that this is where room service comes from, because the proprietor knocked and had a bucket of ice for us. So yes, it's creepy, but it's also handy! Anyway, we went into town, hung out for a while, came back, and the whole hotel was deserted. It was SO nice to stay someplace where you aren't constantly woken up in the night by room doors slamming and people talking in the hallway. We slept like babies! Woke up the morning, had a delicious breakfast while we watched eagles swooping along the horizon, and took off back home. We'll be back, Goldmoor Inn! Next time we'll eat at the restaurant for dinner, too! More...

Fantastic Food!  Service and small touches could be better.  I know this place is striving for 5 star service and all around experience.  They are so close.  We had dinner in the restaurant on a Friday night.  They place was mostly empty which is too bad because the food was absolutely wonderful.  I had the beef wellington which was superb!  My boyfriend asked for a cup of coffee and didn't get it and had to ask again.  Also he had food allergies (gluten and dairy) and we discussed but they served the baked potato with butter on it.  Then that was the last potato so they had to make something different.  Also, leftovers should have been boxed and put in a bag, we had to ask for a bag to carry it.  We were lucky and met the owner to see what the room looked like, they look very very nice and I would like to stay here some time.  Hope they can get their service in the restaurant up a bit and they will be the 5 stars they wish to be. We stayed Sunday through Wednesday to take advantage of the free Tuesdays with three night booking. We chose the Mississippi suite. It was huge, clean, well furnished, and had fantastic views of the Mississippi River. The whirlpool and fireplace were a nice touch. Breakfasts were generous portions, delicious and served in your room if you wanted. We were surprised how quickly it came after we ordered. We had dinner one night at the restaurant and upgraded to the chef’s table in the kitchen where you can chat with the chefs as they cook. What a lovely experience. The scallop starter was so tasty but my favorite was the citrus salad. My husband had the Beef Wellington and I had the lamb Osso Bucco. Both were amazing. Not cheap but worth every penny. We just returned from our 3 day Getaway to The Goldmoor. We had an incredible time!!! We stayed in the Turret suite. It was absolutely gorgeous! It was so clean and spacious, we didn’t want to leave! The owner Mrs. Birgit was very kind and accommodating. She made sure everything went perfectly. We dined at the Goldmoor restaurant and the food and atmosphere was amazing!! I had the Beef Wellington and my Hubby had the Braised Lamb and they were PERFECTION!! Worth every penny!! We also enjoyed our couples massage! The staff, from housekeeping to room service was professional and courteous. We literally felt at home. My husband and I desperately needed this getaway. We’ve been married nearly 9 years and never got away more than 1 night anywhere, so we knew that wherever we chose had to be perfect- and the Goldmoor was just that!! We will definitely be returning. My fiancé and I wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of our hectic lives in Chicago for the weekend but didn't want to travel too far. From the moment we arrived on Friday evening to our send off on Sunday morning was an unbelievably amazing experience. We stayed in the King Arthur suite overlooking the beautiful Mississippi River where we absorbed the stunning views while enjoying a Charcuterie plate from cheese/meats we bought in downtown Galena! The fireplace, whirlpool tub, super comfortable king bed, and flat screen TV make it hard to even leave your suite. Our dinner in the Goldmoor dining room on Friday evening was one of the best meals we have ever had and we are self proclaimed foodies who travel the US and overseas on the hunt for tasty meals! We had the bone marrow, duck, beef wellington, and a chocolate decadence for dessert. Chef came out to make sure everything was to our liking so that was a wonderful treat to meet the talent behind the magic! Our server Ashley was SO personable and made great food and wine recommendations. The owners Birgit and Slobo were the sweetest people we have ever met who love to share stories and make you feel right at home...meeting them alone makes a trip to the Goldmoor worthwhile. Our breakfast served in our room every morning was absolutely delicious and hit all the right spots in your tummy! We also enjoyed an hour long couples massage which took our relaxation state to a whole other level! Last but certainly not least, the grounds and castle itself are truly gorgeous...even in the winter when we visited. As soon as you pull into the drive it feels as though you are transported to the European countryside during a more simpler time when time isn't of the essence! My fiancé and I are already planning our next trip to the Goldmoor Inn and have already booked a suite for my parents to celebrate their anniversary this summer as a surprise. I've visited the Goldmoor twice. Both times were incredible experiences - from a dining and hospitality perspective. Most recently our staff came to the Goldmoor and was part of a Chef's Table experience. The entire experience was a showstopper. The head chef did some prep for us, explained some of their signature dishes, and provided a feast of a buffet for our team. My boyfriend and I stayed the weekend of November 16, 2018 in the Arthur Suite.  The suite was gorgeous. We loved staying in the room and struggled to want to leave to visit Galena. Breakfast delivered to the room really helped spark the romantic weekend for two and I highly recommend it. The dinner at the Inn requires a reservation and is pricey but worth every penny.  I got the crab cakes with scallops and it was the best I've ever had next to places fresh off the sea.  Two meals plus drinks was over $150. We also did a couples massage after breakfast on Saturday morning and the masseuses did a phenomenal job.  They were kind, focused on the right areas, and we enjoyed it. If you're looking to save money, the massages are a pretty penny so might not be for you but if you have the money to spare I'd recommend it. My boyfriend and I saved up for the weekend expecting things to be expensive so we were prepared. The couples massage was $210. Overall, we 100% plan to return but will have to save again for a weekend like that. However, it's now one of our favorite weekends in our memories because it was gorgeous and we got to take care of us in a beautiful place with an exceptional staff. More...

We recently stayed here for a weekend trip to Galena. The Goldmoor Inn was beautiful. It has some amazing views is a charming bed and breakfast. Our room was very spacious and clean. I loved that there was a table set up by the window for breakfast, and there was a nice deck outside our room to sit and relax on. We didn't eat at the restaurant for dinner, but did have the included breakfast delivered to our room in the morning and it was delicious. All of the staff we interacted with were very friendly as well. The only downside is it is a good 6 miles outside of town, but we knew that when we booked it. More...
