For the past 5 plus years my husband and I take a Wednesday evening in December for the Dickens dinner. The lodging is half off that evening. We really like the cabins, and always take advantage of the hot tub on the private deck. Entree choices are either cornish Hens or a filet. We pay a few extra dollars for the filet, it's easier to eat! 6 PM is the cocktail hour before dinner. The Dickens tale is read aloud between courses. It's a lovely relaxed meal. Beautiful fireplaces are in many of the rooms enhancing the cozy atmosphere. In the morning is a huge breakfast, starting with homemade scones and jam is served. Afterwards there's time for hiking if you can spare the time. We've brought friends with us a couple times now, and they love it too! Oh, and there's a new and final Scotish Lard who holds the title of Earl, and has a castle back in Scotland! More...

My wife and I went here in early October for a weekend get away for our anniversary. We stayed in the MacDonald suite and could not have been more satisfied. Every detail in the room and around the property was well maintained and clean. Breakfast each morning was delicious and very filling. We did not arrive early enough for dinner on Friday night however we did opt for dinner in our room Saturday night. We were pleasantly surprised by our in room dinner we were expecting a to go box placed in the fridge with heating instructions, when we arrived back in our room on Saturday the table in our room was fully set with plates, silver ware, napkins and stem ware. As I mentioned we did arrive late on Friday but that wasn't an issue, late check in was super easy. We couldn't have asked for a better weekend. We will definitely be back. More...

We were able to get a reservation for a one night stay at this charming location about an hour drive from Columbus. We arrived around the 3:30 check in time and after getting settled into our cozy croft (a wee house) we decided to explore the trails that are on the property. Autumn afternoon, turning leaves, quiet of the forest... oh my! Then back to the croft to freshen up and dress for dinner. Shortly after six we made our way to the Manor House for a beverage in the pub and chatting with fellow lodgers. At seven the dinner is announced in the dining room. A delicious six course dinner followed! ||The next morning following a soak in our private hot tub we dressed and walked back to the Manor House for a delicious breakfast. I wanted it to be special and choosing to stay at Glenlaurel was definitely the best choice!! We stayed in the MacDougal Croft and it was absolutely perfect. We enjoyed the hiking trails they have. The best part of the stay was the Social Hour in the Pub followed by a Six-Course Dinner. Every single course was delicious and we loved meeting the Chef! It was a peaceful and relaxing stay. We enjoyed the hot tub after dinner and listening to the rain storm in the screened porch. Really enjoyed the Scottish music they had playing in our cabin when we first walked in and the cute lanterns to walk around the grounds at dark! Only issue was with breakfast. This was our first time staying here so it would have been nice to be told when we sat down to get our own scones. Which I guess is a signal for them to give your porridge followed by asking you what you want for breakfast. Our server seemed annoyed when asked why we hadn’t gotten a scone yet & I said we didn't know how it worked since it was our first stay. We ordered Bloody Mary’s and it took 25 minutes to get it and by the time it came out it was warm with no ice. She kept saying it would be on its way but 25 minutes later drinks came and looked like it was sitting out for a while before given to us. I was looking forward to breakfast but would skip it next time or do the breakfast in our room for the extra fee. The ladies who check you in and out could be a tad bit nicer!! Especially for what you pay to stay here. We will definitely be back! Such a beautiful place! More...

We only stayed for one night here---in the Robertson Garrett Room. This Select Registry inn is a good place for those who want to get away from the rat race and technology---spotty or no cell reception, wifi, or TV (but you can look at DVD's on a screen in your room). Our king room was large and had a rustic feel. But it was kind of dark and showed a bit of age. The bathroom was quite small and akin to what you'd get in a 2-star motel. We've stayed in several Select Registry properties, and this room was not comparable to what you normally have in a Select inn. ||||There are a few activities you can do on the property, including an 8 hole links-style short golf course and a nice trail along a gorge starting at the back of the inn. All of the major points of interest (caves, cliffs, etc.) of the Hocking Hills are within 10-15 minutes of the inn. There is a bar in the same building as the restaurant, but it has limited hours. Staff at check-in were fine, but we thought they could be more welcoming (i.e.----a little more sociable than the normal business-like hotel check-in). The price of our room was what you would expect for this inn (and less expensive than most Select Registry properties). ||||Food service was the highlight of our stay. The 6-course dinner was very good and reasonably priced. They had a decent wine list. The bar is open for socializing an hour before the 7PM dinner seating time. The bar and dining staff were very friendly, and the chef came out to talk to the guests near the end of the meal. The free breakfast was out on a lovely patio, and the food choices and quality were also very good. Overall, we had a nice stay. If not for the food service, we might have been a little disappointed. My husband and I visited Glen Laurel this past weekend for our anniversary. We were first time guests, but we will be returning for sure. The attention to detail was incredible. The grounds are just beautiful and our croft was perfect, with lots of little details and sweet touches. The hot tub was relaxing, but with the 100 degree weather, we did turn it down a bit. We had the 7 course dinner on Saturday, and the entire experience was outstanding, from the social hour where we met some lovely people, to the piper, to the food (which was indescribably delicious). I cannot say enough about the beautiful, romantic B&B. My husband and I stayed in one of the crofts for our anniversary and loved it. The private patio with a hot tub was delightful, the croft itself had just the right atmosphere, and the kitchenette allowed us to spend as much or as little time in our room as we desired. We were concerned about the lack of wifi, but it turned out to be a blessing to be able to really unplug for a while. The property offers dvds to borrow if you'd like to watch a movie. The property has a walking trail through a beautiful gorge area that is secluded, romantic, and does remind one of a Scottish glen. The breakfast every morning had scones and coffee/tea/juice. You could choose an egg dish or a "sweet" dish, so my husband and I split one of each, which was great for us. We dined one evening at the restaurant as well. Although the food was good, it was certainly overpriced for what you get. Then next time we stay here - and there will be a next time - we'll skip the dinner. If you're looking for a romantic getaway in Ohio, this is an amazing place to spend a few days getting away from it all. More...

My husband and I spent our honeymoon/1st year/2nd year anniversary here, booking the romantic spa interlude package. While we do feel that the price was a little high for the overall experience, we were satisfied with the scenic hills, the wonderful food, and pleasant staff. We knew there would be three roses and chocolates waiting for us in the room as part of the package, and we were super excited for them! Unfortunately, while the flowers were beautiful, there was only two pieces of chocolate. One was so full of rosemary that we couldn't eat it. The truffles were clearly handmade, and we suspect that if we purchased some different flavors that we would have been extremely satisfied, but the two little truffles and three roses was kind of a disappointment. But! They also left us a small present--a little plate to hang up with a Cardinal bird painted on it and the year of our honeymoon. This came with a handwritten note, and that made us feel special! There were little notes throughout that were humorous and clever, which we appreciated. The room was lovely, though we thought the decor was a little odd. It added a sort of home-done charm, but definitely wasn't a super modern, luxurious croft. As someone who studied literature extensively, it was humorous to see they misspelled a Scottish quote that was etched over the mantle of the Bruce West Croft. It was cute and cozy. Not exactly what we expected for the price, but we were happy nonetheless. The hiking is beautiful and easy to do. The staff was friendly. Again, a little too home-done instead of upscale. I suspect they wanted everyone to be more like a fancy Scottish butler to guests, but they just couldn't pull it off. It was charming though, and made everything feel more casual. We will be coming back again, though if we want a more posh, upscale location for the same price, we'll go elsewhere. But we loved the cozy charm and thought the food and staff are well worth a trip back! Basically, if it wasn't for the strange "trying to be upscale but not quite there" feeling, the disappointing and expensive chocolate/rose package, and the slight priciness, this would be 100% perfect! It seems they are still just trying to find their niche and what works, but they certainly have the basics down (like the food), and it showed! Thank you Glen Laurel! We'll see you later! More...
