I hosted a Happy Hour for the David Munson Agency at George's Chophouse last night, and it was the perfect place for a corporate happy hour! I worked with Rani and Teara to plan the event, and they were so helpful throughout the entire process. The drinks and food turned out great! My favorite appetizer was the sliders, but the fries and bloomin' mushrooms turned out great as well. The most popular item of the entire night, though, was the Smoked Whiskey Sour, which is a specialty perfected by the bartender, Alan. Alan was so attentive and made sure all our guests were taken care of. I would 100% recommend George's Chophouse for small corporate happy hours and will think of this location for future events! Instagram's algorithm actually inspired me to come here for their $18 prime rib buffet. What showed up as an ad seemed delicious & enticing enough for me to want to check this out ASAP. So here I am, Friday afternoon, my first meal of the day & I'm wandering in without expectations. Upon entering you'd think you're in a swanky steakhouse restaurant where the waitstaff had cloth napkins draped over an am, not the case, but this is a chophouse after all. The decor is modern with a very comfortable, in-front-of-a-fire-on-a-cold-winter day type of feel. The lights bouncing off the brick walls add an ambient glow to what would have been blinding light, illuminating subtle quirky hints of attitude & comedy. "My favorite animal is steak" is my person favorite apart from Biggie watching me cut into my broccoli. The buffet was hot & ready for immediate devour. Choices included prime rib (duh) with au jou, shredded horseradish or horseradish infused butter, bread & fruit jams  or whipped butter, beef stroganoff, beef minestrone soup, salt & parmesan fried potato wedges, steamed vegetables. The staff constantly checked on the food for presentation & temperature. Hunter, our waitress, was awesome & promptly greeted us with water & a drink menu. It's a shame we seemed to be of the few patrons inside who went with the buffet, the food was delicious & didn't disappoint even labeled with 'buffet'. The prime rib was perfect at medium to medium rare, the au jou was flavorful even without the addition of horseradish, but a swipe of horseradish butter on top every bite is a must! Also, the wine choices are divine, the Illuminati Montepulciano was a great light to medium body spicy red wine to go with my red meat, but I should have gone with the super aromatic Petite Sirah from California.I am already to bring friends & family back to partake in this rare find, it's such a treat to have mid week! Good steak! We came here on a Tuesday night, and so did not have to worry about crowds or long waits. There were only a couple of servers on duty, but they worked hard to ensure that the service was good. They start you off with some complimentary bread slices and some aioli; the bread was fresh and tasted good. We also ordered a plate of shoestring fries for the table to start off with, they were good, but nothing special. I ordered the NY strip steak with a side of baked potato. I was surprised to see the steak already pre cut into slices as I am not used to seeing this for this cut of steak. Regardless, sliced or not, the steak was delicious! It was a quality cut and was well seasoned. The potato was also a good accompaniment and was a fairly generous size. I liked how the cheese on top was not the usual shredded cheese. When I tell you I am a true foodie, please listen...I visited this establishment on yesterday with my cousin during HH. We started with the sliders and mussels. The mussels were really good, it was accompanied with grilled toast which is how it should be - Thank you very much. But them sliders (With that sauce on them) were everything when I say everything, they were everything. When you take a bite of something and close your eyes and is eager for someone else to taste it for a reaction, all I can say was Good Lawd. (numm numm numm) As for entrees we decided to order shrimp, salmon an grits whick were De-freakin-licious! Ive had shrimp and grits at least 20 time in life, but this was a game changer, so so good. George's Chophouse is definitely worth swinging through if you live in Bethesda or find yourself close to the red line. The bone marrow and the seafood tower are by far the best starters. The thick bacon, while tasty, is more of a pork chop than fatty bacon. All of the cuts of steak are beautifully prepared medium rare and with minimal seasoning to let the meat shine. Happy hour is the play - half price drinks and appetizers means $30 for a couple of appetizers and cocktails. More...

Steakhouses were always an interesting breed. They did everything differently than most restaurants. As of late, and especially in the DC area, they began meandering towards rock bottom with the overall trend of the restaurant industry. Cuts are getting grossly expensive (to the point that steakhouses don't feature couples or families anymore, just people grabbing onto their corporate credit cards with greasy fingers), the sub-industry refuses to evolve or perform price reductions, the food is becoming more unimpressive, and more delightful choices are popping up. I'd sworn off steakhouses in the DC area. I said my ashes to ashes, ribeye to ribeye, and got better at reverse searing my way to happiness at home. George's is a contradiction and a retort to all of the above. The restaurant features a slightly more Eurochic, updated decor, but very tastefully so. It isn't so disgustingly dark in the steakhouse as it is in other ones. It's well lit, cutely decorated, and meticulously planned out to be spacious (lack of walls is an aesthetic plus), yet nice and cozy. The wait service? Incredible. Waiters were prompt, well organized and cooperative. Jules is the *man*. I hope you get him, he is the bee's knees. The wine? Could be cheaper, but the selection was average enough (~50 USD per bottle of quite good stuff). The appetizers? Hit or miss, but mostly hit. The bacon (un-aptly named - it's just seared pork belly!) is to DIE FOR. I swear it was likely good enough to be magically halal/kosher at the same time. The fries need a bit more garlic and herbs, but make for a lovely nibble while you wait. And the appetizers are all priced at around 30-40% of what you would pay in a downtown DC steakhouse, yet of equal quality. The steak? Good god. I've dined at Peter Luger. I've dined at Benjamin's. I've dined at Delmonico's. This stuff is tantamount. If the cheapest you can pay for a 36 oz cut at the above is ~120-130 USD, a nice 36 oz. tomahawk here will run you not a penny more than 90 USD. The quality? Superb. Rose like the morning sky, just enough fat to give it the richness of a king, and infused with garlic amazingness and thyme. It tastes like it could have well been dry aged. I know it wasn't, but it was THAT good. A coworker, who recommended the place, said she'd had the filet mignon a week ago, and that it was "the best 8 oz. filet mignon in the DC area under 70 bucks." The sides are extraordinary, but the cream of spinach is the clear winner here. I don't know how vegetables can be THAT good. Well worth the 7 bucks. Many long years to you in this location, guys. I've renewed my faith in the art of steak restaurants. I've renewed my faith in humanity. I will be coming back many, many more times.  P.S. The free birthday chocolate cake was an amazing bonus. Definitely the proverbial cherry on top. More...

George's, which has been opened a few months now, has just issued a new menu (effective last Thursday, February 14, '19).  It has an expanded appetizers list as well as many new entrée items, soups and salads, sandwiches, etc .  Happy Hour (from 5-7) means half price appetizers, $5 house wines, half price on some exotic drinks (flip the "menu" over) and an incredible $9 "Steak Frittes" dining experience.  I can't wait to try the beef and potato hash appetizer next week.  Overall the food is just simply fantastic and you can't go wrong with anything on the expanded menu.  Couple the great food with an incredible staff makes it even better!  Three of the bartenders are just plain outstanding and fun to know - Erin, Chandra and Lokfi - and make some incredible concoctions.  They make the barside sitting very enjoyable! Finally, the ambiance.  This is a VERY elegant high end dining place with good prices.  The redesign a few months ago has been a great success.  No distracting TV screens; just spending time with your lover, date, wife, or business associate.  Nothing is a distraction. If you haven't tried George's Chophouse yet you are missing a newest of Bethesda's greatest dining experiences! We arrived at 6:15 on a Saturday night and were in mediately seated. The sax player was just getting set up. We skipped the appetizers and the $10 bread basket and ordered salads. The heirloom tomato salad that two of us ordered was really tasty. The chopped salad with the cucumber, tomato, corn etc. was the land and uninspiring. I really don't recommend this. My husband generously gave me half of his heirloom tomato salad.I ordered the scallops and they were tasty, though I've had scallops that I preferred more at other restaurants.
