I wanted to give a glowing recommendation to Cliff and his team (Gil and Danny!) for building a fantastic home for us in Short Hills. My wife and I have been looking at the tri-state area and for a while did not consider building. We met Cliff and it turned out that the process isn’t as complicated as we feared. In this initial meeting he explained everything very clearly, showed us organized timelines, budget details etc.
Not only he did the above, in a few days he followed up with what ended up being a perfect plot for us -walk to the train, backing into the local Arboretum and perfectly sized for the type of house we wanted to build as well as in a true “wonder years” neighborhood.
Cliff and his direct team as well as the vendors he worked with were extremely helpful in our process of getting a variance (not an easy process) and we were off to the races in August 2016. During the process, we always felt informed, involved and due to very good communication with Cliff and his team, we ended up moving into our house earlier than anticipated (May 2016). Cliff has a very well-oiled machine running when going through the build process and every person he connected us to (architect, cabinet vendors, flooring, electric, etc.) were professional and responsive. He told us, as long as you order things and make your decision in the timeframes we set out, you will be all right and we were.
Lastly, the final product is amazing. The quality of work is superb, Cliff and team dealt very well with any final changes we had during the build process (you want finished basement now, no problem… you want to move this wall…no problem). It was an amazing experience to be able to design every room and area of the house to our liking and view how we will use in the future. Cliff also often suggested ways to save money and we appreciated that as well. His team ended up helping us move our stuff into the house too and one other area I’d like to highlight is the service that Cliff provides after the house is finished. Moving from NYC, we knew nothing about homeownership and if anything in the house needed a bit of love in the coming years (including paint touchups, additional electric work, lose handle on cabinet door etc) – his team was there almost right away and helping us out – amazing service.
I would highly recommend Cliff and his team, your experience will be amazing and the final product even better! I would be happy to serve as personal reference as well to anybody considering Cliff for their building needs.

I've lived in Short Hills for over 20 years and have watched Cliff build beautiful, well-constructed houses. When we started hunting for a new home, my hope was to purchase one of Cliff's houses or to have him build one for us. Unfortunately, the market was too strong and Cliff's houses sold too quickly and we were outbid for all the land sales. We ended up buying a spec house from a more unknown builder. Five years after our home purchase, our basement flooded. Even though Cliff wasn't our builder, he immediately came to detect the cause of the problem. Cliff's years of experience working in Millburn/Short Hills area has made him an expert not only in the local building requirements but also in the geology of the area. Cliff was able to find a quick solution that prevented additional flooding when we had inches of rain several weeks later. When rebuilding my basement, Cliff's workers were efficient, professional, and showed great pride in doing the job correctly. Cliff also has helped me resolve water coming in through the roof, and he has been a great overall resource for all things house-related. I have worked with Cliff since 2003, when I sold his first house on Hilltop for $2.3m! Since then, we've worked together on many occasions, including selling homes like 15 Slope for $4,150,000, 293 Hartshorn for $4,790,000, which then traded again at $5,200,000. Cliff's reputation is impeccable. He lives in Short Hills with his family and is extremely responsive to all of his clients, and everyone loves working with him. Our most recent deal was 104 Farley Road, which sold for $2,878,000, and is just gorgeous. Cliff keeps up with the new trends in the market and does everything very tastefully. Cliff at Geiss Customer Builders is a skillful, honest builder in an otherwise opaque industry.

We interviewed multiple general contractors, most came in the same ballpark for price. Cliff has an impeccable reputation in the area and we really wanted to go with Geiss Homes. Cliff could have easily taken the job, a nice profit, and been on his way in a few months. My mother has an architectural background and was involved in the plans of the construction. Knowing this, and the fact we were on a tight budget, Cliff recommended we manage the project ourselves using his vendors.

Cliff visited every week, acting as a consultant and making sure we weren’t missing anything. He checked in on the vendors to make sure we were getting fair prices, he reviewed changes to the job, helped us brainstorm solutions to overcome unexpected hurdles, and was available every day by phone.

As a young couple with a baby, every penny counts. Cliff did right by us, he saved us a boatload of money and still got us into a beautiful home. We are forever thankful. More...

I had the pleasure of working with Cliff, the owner of Geiss Custom Builders for my new construction home in Short Hills. Although I was a little (lot) nervous about taking on such a big project, I was recommended by a friend who had used him for a large renovation project and had only good things to say about him . He was able to guide me through the entire process from start to finish and made the whole process both easy and pleasurable. He showed a great eye for detail and whenever an issue come up, he was able to use his experience to come up with a solution right away. I had compared him to some other builders in the area and he was able to offer a very competitive price. Another big plus was that he only uses high end subcontractors – each of them were friendly and extremely professional and went above and beyond to ensure a good product was done at the end of the day. At the end of the project we were able to walk through the house and he made sure that every seam, tile, floorboard was in perfect shape behind handing the keys over to me. I incorporated a lot of custom features and he was able to execute all of these items perfectly. He even ziptied all of the wires so that they were neat and tidy, and hired cleaners to keep the site clean both during the project as well as the very end. Most impressively, he was always available for any questions I had, even after hours. Asking around town, he has an excellent reputation, and I was told by his other customers that he remains available even after the final product is delivered. I am writing this review more than 7 years after we bought the house that Cliff and his team built, and I hope it says volume about him as a builder. The house is absolutely well made and everything works beautifully. A couple of months ago we noticed there was a little leak around the exhaust duct leading out to the roof. Called a couple of roofers, they could not find anything wrong. Finally I texted Cliff to seek advice, not sure whether he would even respond, because as you know, it has been 7 years. To my surprise, he responded right away: “We will look at it tomorrow. No worries”. Cliff’s guys came and also could not find anything wrong, but they decided to take the duct out and re-install it! Fast forward to the recent devastating blizzard which left many houses with power outage and broken wires. Our entire row of pine trees all fell to the ground, bowed down to mother nature “You win, ok!”. Contacted different tree companies, got different messages and quotes. Not sure who we should listen to, texted Cliff to pick on his brain: can we save the trees? If not, can he recommend a landscaper where we can buy trees from? Again, he responded quickly: “Once weather breaks, we can replant for you. We can check to see if salvageable. No worries”. Fabulous - the best !!
We first hired them for an addition / extensive renovation in 2013, when they exceeded our expectations with their quality and timeliness, and their ability to work within the budget. Their staff was courteous and considerate, which was especially important to us since we were living in the house through the renovation. Their attention to detail and immaculate work gave us our perfect space that we continue to enjoy today. They stand by their work and have continued to be very responsive with their follow up whenever needed, even through their vacation schedule !!
Most recently , we had a water pipe burst in our home this winter. They responded to us immediately and helped us navigate through all the insurance requirements. The repairs and renovations were very difficult since we have an older home with plaster walls and ceilings, but their workmanship was excellent and gave us a product that was far superior to what we could have hoped for.
We are now looking at a kitchen renovation and will be calling them again - we are confident that they are the right company to provide us with the excellent workmanship and service that we are accustomed to. More...

We remodeled half of our house: family room/kitchen expansion, master suite, as well as a screened in porch, and patio.
From the very first day, I knew we made the best choice. We interviewed 3 other builders but kept going back to Cliff. We are so glad we did. Cliff and his staff became oart of our extended family.
We lived in our home through the renovation and Cliff made that transition so smooth. Whenever we had an issue or question, Cliff was quick to call or come over, even on the weekend.

I worked with Cliff on many projects while employed as an associate designer with a local architecture firm in Short Hills, N. J. He was extremely professional, great with clients, paid attention to the smallest details, and created gorgeous homes. Not only is he a good builder with a good team, but I feel his design input is also very creative and he truly knows how to add details or special trim where it will count to make a project look even better. We had a complete renovation and extension built on our house in Short Hills. The project took 9 months but Cliff Geissler has remained in contact with us to make sure all is good. Most importantly the people whom works with him were respectful and a pleasure to have in our home for such a long period of time. We had our kitchen and family room extended as well as 3 bathrooms completely demolished and rebuilt in our 1928 home. For a period of time we did not have a bathroom with a shower which can be difficult with two children, but he made it seamless and easier to deal with by making us a temporary shower in our what is now our new master bedroom closet...amazing! The foundation of the addition and new drainage system (drywell, etc) is a big job and you need real professional that can handle it and know what they are doing and we are so happy we choose this contractor! We almost worked with Cliff on a major remodel 4 years ago. Unfortunately, we went with his competitor Durso Construction and rue the day ever since. Durso had a flashier promotional materials and a lower bottom line which is why we chose him. Since then, when we had a plumbing problem that required moving of pipes, Cliff was out the very same day to take a look at the job. His men were there later in the afternoon and on a Saturday and solved the problem right away. They were neat and courteous and left the job in a great state. Geiss Custom Builders built our new construction home as well as a subsequent addition and renovation. Unlike many new construction homes, Geiss built a classically designed home with unique details, both inside and out, which creates a warm and inviting flow. Flooring with wooden inlays, onyx foyer flooring, bead-boarded ceilings, comfortable window seating, stone and brick fireplaces and wrought iron railings are a sampling of the thoughtful details included in the Geiss construction. Importantly, Geiss has always responded promptly, whenever issues arise.

We bought the house that Cliff and his team built. At the time of the inspection, Cliff showed up himself to walk with the inspector to take notes of anything that needed to be taken care of. He told me that he was a local builder so he was not going anywhere and needed to be reliable to the work his team did. He totally owned up to his words. We now have lived in the house for more than three years, we had a couple of things (AC, garage water pipe broke due to severe cold weather etc) that we contacted him for information. Each time he responded immediately and sometimes was at our house even before other service people arrived. He would recommend what to do and tell the service guys where things are so to make their job easier. A couple of times he even sent his own staff to fix things free of charge! He is definitely a builder you can trust, as reflected by his frequent saying : " I know this house, I built it!". If you buy from Cliff, you will know that you are in good hands. My husband and I have just completed the total renovation of our house under the supervision and guidance of building contractor Mr. Clifford Geissler of Geiss Custom Builders, Though one often hears horror stories when undertaking a project of this scope, I must say it was just the opposite for us.

From our very first meeting with Cliff, he listened carefully to the combined vision that we and our architect presented. His suggestions and questions at this juncture enabled a comprehensive bid on the project to emerge. Cliff’s motto from the start was that there never was a problem he didn’t come across that couldn’t be resolved, and I must say that that resolution stood fast throughout the entire construction process. When we hit a few unexpected bumps, we all sat down and came up with solutions that were sound and cost effective.

Cliff was on site on a daily basis. His subcontractor’s and their crews were hard working, professional, and always polite, answering any questions we had. Before construction even began, Cliff went around the neighborhood presenting our neighbors with a letter introducing himself, and outlining for people, that if there were any concerns, i.e. noise, parking issues, etc. to contact him immediately. This approach went a long way throughout our neighborhood and everyone could not get over how clean the site was left at the end of each day and not an eye sore for them to be forced to look at.

Cliff presented us with a timeline of when things would occur and that schedule was on the money. There never was a day that passed when something wasn’t being worked on, moving the construction along to completion.

The quality of the materials Cliff utilized, married with the talent of his sub-contractors, enabled us to have a house that passed all inspections immediately, that was crafted beautifully and soundly, and that has given us pleasure every single day. The compliments from our neighbors, friends, and family, that the house is not only beautiful, but put together so well is a testament to Cliff’s efforts from beginning to end.

It is my first hand opinion that to employ Cliff Geissler in the construction of one’s house would be an outstanding choice both aesthetically and monetarily. More...

I am really glad to have the opportunity to review Geiss Custom Builders, and Cliff Geissler in particular. I have done many renovations over the years, including a total redo of a 15,000 sq ft house in Short Hills, as well as renovations in Vermont, Cape Cod, and many years ago in Scotch Plains.

I am coming to the end of a major renovation of a 3000 sq ft town house in Florham Park. Cliff and I agreed to work together at the end of August, 2013. I am overwhelmingly satisfied working with him. His highest grade goes to overall customer satisfaction. He does not stop until I am completely happy. Quite frankly, I have never experienced this with any builders in the past.

Cliff has decades of experience and knowledge, and coupled with his desire to please, the journey was very smooth. We would have met budgets and deadlines if it were not for my multiple change orders, which were handled fairly and without ever a complaint. Obviously it delayed our completion deadline, but I think without the changes we would have completed the project prior to the estimated completion date.

These projects involve working with many subcontractors. Clearly the subs thought highly of Cliff, and the orchestration was seamless.

I could really go on and on, but suffice to say that when a builder's primary goal is customer satisfaction throughout the process (which in many cases can be VERY difficult), the value to the client is priceless. More...
