Why Did I Start This Adventure?

Because I’ve always been a storyteller. I’m also the one with the fun facts about places I go, things I see and what happened on the adventure. Sometimes I exaggerate....but only a little. During all my story gathering, I picked up a love for photography. I think it must have been somewhere around the time I started adventuring in Alaska. Seeing the tremendous beauty of mountains and glaciers was inspiring. But meeting the people in small villages up north and gaining an appreciation for their way of life was just as inspiring. I wrote the stories. I splurged on a digital camera and took the pictures! And, oh how a photograph tells the story!!!

I tell my stories because I never want to forget the places I go. I never want to forget the people I meet. And I always want to capture each experience along the way. I take the pictures to remember. And to share these stories with you.

So many great things have happened since I’ve stepped into this role. I never expected or dreamt all these amazing things would happen, or that I’d get to go to so many awesome places.

I do this because often the stories are important. I do this because often the stories are inspirational, sad, funny. I do this because I want to share the beauty we sometimes miss in our day to day surroundings. I do this because I want to help you see the beauty of the places I’ve been, the people I know and the beauty of YOU. I do this because I am an artist.

Whew - that‘s a lot of “why!” The thing is, I’ve told you all this for a reason. You see, the “why” is crucial in being a visual storyteller. Telling the story of a place or a person is more than a point and shoot. It’s more than telling someone where to stand, or studying the theory of thirds every time I shoot a photo. Sure, those concepts are essential, and I’ve studied them diligently. Understanding the story behind the place, the person, the subject, THAT is crucial!
