Freddies

This place was recommended to me by a bus driver and life-long Chicago resident. He was about 60 and said it was the best in the city. I didn't go when he recommended it, but did the next time that I was in Chicago. They sell deep dish pizza by the slice, which is perfect when you are travelling alone or with just another person. They have a slice of the week that varies for $3.75, as well as the usual variety of cheese, pepperoni, sausage, etc. Check their website it will tell you what the special is that week. That and a soda or glass of water will fill you up. Pizza was very good, not totally exceptional, but extra credit because it wasn't a freshly made-to-order pie. It was also not a traditional pizza that week, but a chicken alfredo, so their "normal" pizzas might be even better. I bet a whole pizza would be very, very good! I would definitely return and try other items on the menu, or another pizza or pizza slice. It was about 2/3 filled on a Wednesday about 6 PM, and some people were taking their orders to go. Always a good sign. Young man behind the counter that got my pizza slice with was very nice, young woman at the cash register not so much. This place is South Side Bridgeport. Access can be difficult, but the food is some of the best in the city. There is a reason I drive 30 minutes to go to Freddies. The hot wings and deep dish pizza are excellent!!! The infused Italian ice is a great addition to a meal. The Italian ice can either be infused with vodka or tequila.

I have lived in Bridgeport for over 2 years now and can safely say that Freddie's is a staple in this community. Fantastic burgers, Italian beef, breaded steak, pizza by the slice, and tons of homemade favorites along with their famous Italian Ice flavors. Wonderful Italian diner. I mostly ordered their pizzas which were pretty top-notch when compared to some of the other mom & pop shops, but service can be a bit casual.
