John immediately puts you at ease while he works his magic. His photographs do get the essence of his subject, particularly the eyes those windows to the soul. Some of the photos I have seen by John have a gritty earthy texture while others have the translucent feel of an old master. I will be going back for more and highly recommend his work

Not for the faint hearted or those that want a posed and perfected airbrushed finish.

But if your looking for real life emotion, expression and dark true grit with honest, humorous sometimes borderline personality hes definitly your man.

Saying that please don't be put off apparently he's wonderful with children and pets too but you'll surely get more than you bargained for with this man.

It'll be real honest and not perfect and pretty.

Whatever your looking for you won't be disappointed .

John is an amazing photographer. His pictures capture the essence of who you are, dissipating the façade and capturing an honest image. A true artist!

This photographer made me feel so at ease and relaxed at the shoot, which is a big thing for me as I suffer with anxiety, it was a great experience and I have recommended to friends and family. X

I've chosen to go back to fourTwographs to get a special picture taken of myself and my dog. The reason I've chosen John is that I know he won't shoot anything that is twee or sentimentally soppy. He will see the raw emotion and I have every confidence he will capture this in an honest, realistic way, with a little bit of dark thrown in.

I was looking to have some photographs taken of me and my children had no idea where to start. A friend recommended john so thought I'd give him a whirl. John came out with his lovely wife to discuss what I wanted from the photographs and where I wanted them done, I had decided to have them done at home as I have a very comfortable living room ( I was very impressed they both came and spent time with me before the shoot it was far more relaxing than just turning up on the day of the shoot. On the day it all went well john was patient and understanding with the kids being kids and spent a good few hours to capture the best pictures. I would definitely recommend john to anyone with his reasonable prices and going the extra mile to make you feel comfortable he's definitely a genuine guy who wants to produce fantastic quality photos thumbs up xxx

I'd done a couple of shoots before my shoot with John and I have to working with him was the experience thus far. At every step he was friendly and communicative and when it came to the actual shoot this meant I was more relaxed and we got some great images. What's more he had a clear sense of direction and was able to push me to further develop my portfolio without making me feel uncomfortable.

The studio itself had great light and various "stages" on which to shoot with a large variety of hidden props and oddities. All of this made for a very productive day and my favourite and best received images to date.

I look forward to working with him again and can heartily recommend him to anyone.

I needed photos of my son's dogs, Henry and Beth, as a Christmas present and a friend suggested John Bentley at fourTwographs. Now I've attempted taking shots of them myself, so I know it's almost impossible! Nevertheless, John showed infinite patience, even at one point downloading some of the shots with Henry on his knee! The final set of shots were all excellent and I've just made my selection. I know my son and daughter-in-law will be delighted!

Wonderful studio with a relaxed atmosphere, but also flexible in terms of picture locations - mine were taken at a local park. I'd never had professional pictures before, so was a bit apprehensive, but John is such a skilled lensman, putting you at ease, and usually cracking up with laugher at some point, and then producing photographs that are out of this world. The only studio I'd ever go to. Can't recommend them highly enough.

I have a keen interest in photography and so when a friend recommended that I follow John on Facebook I was keen to see what he did, especially as I am just learning and portrait photography is something that I know little about.

I recommended my three great nephews as models and they reported back that they had enjoyed the session – we certainly enjoyed the photographs. I liked them on Facebook and won a fan of the week prize – a portrait session for my and my husband. Given that I am into photography this was not the most joyous moment for me having a distinct preference for being behind the camera and not in front of it. I can safely say that at 53 I have never really had a photograph of myself that I liked (even our wedding photographs were somewhat iffy!).

It was, therefore, with some trepidation that Milton and I went to the studio in Horwich. John made us feel very welcome, and his enthusiasm was infectious. We began to feel that we could just relax, have a mess around, and if the images were no good, so what? A duff photo is not the end of the world.

Surprisingly we actually enjoyed ourselves. Even more surprisingly, when the proofs came through we liked some of them enough to buy them (which I hasten to point out is NOT obligatory, unlike some photo shoots). I posted them on my Facebook page and our friends liked them as well – result.

John is very good at making you feel relaxed, welcome, comfortable, and just a little bit unique and special, which is a great gift. He’s also a darned good photographer – which helps! However, when John says come prepared to spend some time, make sure you do just that. It is not a quick process. He takes time, care and patience, and you have to be prepared to invest the same amount of time, in order to get a good result – or maybe it just took more time with such difficult and frankly initially uncomfortable subjects as ourselves. Take the time – it’s worth the result!

If you want a photoshoot in pleasant, relaxed surroundings, the The Pump House in Horwich is an excellent place to go and John Bentley is the man to provide a great photographic experience. He did a photoshoot with my three Border Collies that was great fun for them and me, and the images that John produced were stunning and that capture the characters of my dogs.
