An absolutely wonderful studio in C'Ville, incredible staff with a dense knowledge on running and training with their background in coaching runners at a D1 level. Very inclusive studio as well, with folks who take their training very seriously to someone who knows they need to run more and need a little extra motivation (I fall into the second category). If you're needing some time away from pounding the pavement, their Woodways are extremely wonderful (at 240lbs it is massively appreciated that the run is as smooth as possible) and I highly recommend paying them a visit! I can't say enough good things about Formula Fitness. Ann and Jason have created a unique concept and a great environment for people of all fitness levels and interests. The Equilibrium class is the perfect combo of running, strength, stability, and core work; and I love the Focus class option for days when I just want to run hard. I started a few months ago at a time when I was in decent cardio shape but had been battling a hip injury and hadn't lifted consistently in a few years. Within two weeks I was feeling significantly more toned and, unbelievably, am back to running pain free (the Woodway treadmills they use for training are known for rehabbing injuries + improving performance...I can now attest to that). My overall level of fitness has improved dramatically at Formula. The instructors, Ann and Jason, as well as Adam, Emily and Sam, make each class feel personalized no matter the number of participants; and the small touches like post-workout cold towels and full-service facilities with free, quality shower products, make it the only place I'll call my home gym in Cville. No "corporate" selling techniques or frustrating long-term contracts. I truly think Formula is a model for gyms and successful small businesses, in general. Needless to say I'm hooked. More...
