About

“I never thought of myself as physically strong before I met Deb, and through her workouts and encouragement, I have been able to see how strong I actually was and have continued to grow to be. I feel proud when I look in the mirror when I see my muscles, proud when I lift more than I’ve ever been able to, and I feel even more proud just existing in this body that Deb has helped me learn to care of, challenge and love.

Working with Deb has completely transformed the way I look at health, exercise, and myself! She is incredibly knowledgeable and insightful and used those skills to tailor make a program for me that gets me excited about working out in a way I’ve never been before. She listens, asks questions, helps to set goals, and pushes you to attain them all while keeping it fun, fresh, and rewarding. I never thought of myself as physically strong before I met Deb, and through her workouts and encouragement I have been able to see how strong I actually was and have continued to grow to be. On our first meeting I told her I that if the only goal I hit would be to be the same size, but stronger I would be happy and now almost a year later she has gotten me there and then some! I free proud when I look in the mirror when I see my muscles, proud when I lift more than I’ve ever been able to, and I feel even more proud just existing in this body that Deb has helped me learn to care of, challenge and love. I feel transformed inside and out by her work and care. Deb is smart, funny, kind and an absolute joy to spend your time with. I can’t recommend Deb highly enough. I am not exaggerating when I say that Deb has changed my life for the best!!! - Krista More...

Deb is my personal trainer at EAC in Evanston. I really lucked out when the training director suggested that Deb would be a good fit for me. In just a couple of months I have more energy and more enthusiasm for working out (and, that is saying something!). I actually look forward to it. Deb is personable and warm. I clearly benefit from her years of professional experience as she is very careful and truly creative about choosing workouts that are appropriate and helpful for my current physical condition. My workouts are varied so I do not get bored. And, we laugh A LOT! I highly recommend her! More...

Deb is amazing - I researched until I found someone with a serious depth of experience with training and also with nutrition knowledge and Deb shines in both categories. I have lost weight that just would not budge before Training with her has made me stronger in my 60s than I was in my 20s! She is a great listener and an outstanding motivator and has a great sense of humor! I wholeheartedly recommend Deb no matter what your goals are. She'll help you reach them! More...

Q&As

Your fitness plan and nutrition meal plans for each stage of your life determine how or if you will reach your goals. I personalize each workout and nutrition meal plan for YOUR body and YOUR stage in life. I offer one-on-one virtual personal training sessions, in-home sessions, in-person sessions, and nutrition counseling to fit your needs. I have been working with ages 7-91 for 26 years and being 54, myself, I have had to change and tweak my workouts and meal plans accordingly. Working out as I did in my 20's no longer works for my 54-year-old body. I know I could still work out the same but I would never reach my goals of staying healthy and fit as I get older. No equipment needed, just a desire to feel healthy and fit at your stage in life. Proper nutrition and exercise ensure health and wellness at each stage of the human lifecycle.

THIS!!!

“I am an 83 years old man. About a year ago I realized that I was not moving about in a good way. I had trouble getting up from any position, my arms were weak as well as the rest of my body and I gained a lot of excess weight. That’s where Deborah came in to help. She is the first personal trainer with whom I have worked who has shown me how to keep fit with exercises that work best for me and that I can continue using for the rest of my life.” -Allen, 83, Evanston, IL.

“I loved my virtual workout with Deb! It was a really convenient (and covid-era approved!) way to bring my favorite trainer into my home. If you’re like me, you know you should at least do a home workout if you can’t get to the gym or go outside, but actually doing it requires a level of motivation I just don’t have. I own almost no equipment but that was no issue- Deb put me through a tough full body workout AND kept me entertained with fun conversation the entire time. Can’t wait to do it again!” KATHY, 48, Chicago, IL.

My approach to nutrition counseling and meal planning is to educate my clients on understanding food as nutrients. I spent too many years counting calories and dieting, and that never worked. As a nutrition counselor and because I am a "why" and solution-based person, I did a lot of research to figure out what I was doing wrong. I was starving my body because I was only concentrating on fat-free foods and calories. My body was holding onto fat because I was not giving it the nutrients I needed to build muscle, burn body-fat, increase my energy levels and achieve the aesthetic body I always wanted. I became a nutrition counselor because I knew I had to share my knowledge and help people learn and meal plan. After all, it changed my body and my life with such positive effects. This is not a diet. It is a way to enjoy your food without a ton of cooking but having the tools to know how to buy the right brands, products, and food.

My personal training style is based on each individual's goals, fitness levels, age, injuries, and personality. In my 26 years of being a personal trainer, I have worked with knee, shoulder, back, and hip injuries to improve quality of life and relieve pain. You do not have to be intimidated, shy, or think that you have to wait to get in shape to work together and allow me to guide you as a personal trainer. My approach as a personal trainer is gentle yet effective and I personalize each workout according to each client. Working one-on-one as a personal trainer gives me a hands-on approach to how YOUR body works and allows me to focus on your form and make sure you are exercising correctly. I also take into account that each client's personality is different and we work together as a team to make sure you reach your health and fitness goals.

the correct ways of strength training for women over 40 and how to eat correctly in order to get the results you desire. Hormones are a huge factor in a woman's life and I understand and have the information to help during this time of perimenopause and menopause. The major stages of the human lifecycle include pregnancy, infancy, toddler years, childhood, puberty, older adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and senior years. Proper nutrition and exercise ensure health and wellness at each stage of the human lifecycle. I am 54 and have been working as a personal trainer and nutrition counselor for 26 years. I have been blessed to work with women from ages 9-91. Through the years, I experimented, researched, and figured out what I needed to focus on as I got older. I know I could still work out like I did in my 20s but it would never allow me to achieve my health and fitness goals of building muscle, burning body fat, having more energy, feeling great, and achieving my aesthetic goals.

“Dear Deborah,

After seeing you tonight I had to come home and rewrote this email that I had saved to send you. I didn't want it to get there before I did and now I am glad I waited. I am still so very touched by the fact that you got me a card and a gift. It was so unexpected and it just means so very much to me...

I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed your friendship and guidance, and how much you made me look forward to coming to the gym; something I never thought I would say in my life, by the way! Even though I am sad to be leaving, it feels good to be leaving in a much better and healthier physical, mental, and spiritual place. Your ability to help me achieve a healthy body and healthy mind at the same time is priceless. So thank you. For everything.

Thank you for pushing me to be my very best. For giving me amazing advice and guidance and support. Thank you for making something most people hate to do an enjoyable activity that I actually looked forward to doing. But most of all thank you for being more than just my trainer, nutrition counselor, and behavior coach but my friend. You being in my life has changed it in the most positive direction and I will always be forever grateful to you for that.”

Stretching is the key to your pain relief. You do not have to live with so much pain. I have clients over 70 who have leg pains, shoulder issues, stiff necks, bad posture, and wake up in pain. For the last 26 years, I have my clients stretch every session. Not just before or after but during our workouts which prevents intense soreness the next day (there is a good sore and a bad sore that comes from working out). Stretching also allows you to continue to do your workout because the muscles are not in knots and your 2nd and 3rd sets are more efficient and effective. The part I love so much is when a client feels pain and we do some stretching and I ask how they feel after the stretch, and they say..."I feel so much better."

"I frustrated, disgusted, and extremely self-conscious about my body, especially my recent addition of the dreaded menopause middle. No matter how little I ate or how much I worked out, I couldn’t seem to get results. I’d worked with trainers before and never got much out of it but decided to give it one more shot – and I’m so glad I did! Deb is definitely in a league of her own. She brings a level of knowledge, enthusiasm, and positive energy that is absolutely transformative. After seeing results within the first month of personal training, I was eager for more, and even though I considered myself nutritionally aware and knowledgeable, I signed on for Deb’s approach to healthy eating and her nutrition counseling. It proved to be a winning combination that I know will stay with me forever. Deb teaches you how to select and turn nutrient-dense foods into simple, satisfying meals. She urged me to stay off the scale and to measure my success by the way I looked and felt. And I felt great! Stronger, energized, and upbeat and I could tell my body was changing. Ironically, all these positive changes happened while I was in the midst of a personal crisis that without Deb, would have left me physically depleted and emotionally depressed. It’s a powerful testimony to the power of healthy eating and exercise, and few people know how to help others strike that balance like Deb."
