Fresh fish, amazing service and daily exquisite specials!!!! You have to try this place!

High-quality fish and the Thai/SE Asian entrees are always flavorful and generously portioned. A little pricy but worth it. To the people at Fogama - please update your lunch menu on your website to include descriptions of what items are and possibly photos. How are people supposed to know what things like 'Sushi Bullet' are? No description either of what is in the House Dumpling or House Bun. Extra important for people with dietary restrictions. My wife and I along with our son, daughter-in-law and her sister came to Fogama for dinner the evening of February 9; my wife and I were in Rye from Oregon for a nearby dog show while our son, daughter-in-law and her sister came up from NYC where they live. Merely by happenstance, we choose Fogama for our Saturday evening meal and I can say without hesitation that we were all happy we had the luck to find and enjoy this place.  Our collective experiences with the food we had, our sense of Fogama's ambience and our experiences with the attentive waitstaff prove Fogama is a wonderful (but increasingly rare) example of the look, feel and taste of  local, fresh ingredients prepared with care and joy and then presented to the guest with simplicity, courtesy and attention.  We will be returning to Fogama once back in Rye next year!  Others living closer need not and should not wait that long. We just had a great dining experience at this new restaurant in town, made even more special by the delightful service of our waitress. I wish I knew her name, but I made sure to sing her praises to the owner/manager on our way out. The menu featured some interesting dishes that were presented with care and elegance. Grilled Chilean sea bass with miso was a culinary treat, as was the pineapple fried rice with baby shrimp that tasted as if it had just a hind of curry, though our waitress noted it might be tamarind. We ended our meal with the most delicious, light-tasting Japanese-style cream puff known to man, recommended by our waitress--another example of her outstanding service. Our overall experience was beyond satisfying, and we look forward to returning in the near future. Thank you so much! More...

There were a few months I would come here every weekend with my boyfriend and his family! It's the best Japanese around! ! The fish is fresh & the food is quality. I still come often but not every single weekend... LOL!!!!!!!! I've never had a bad experience here.Steve, the owner always takes care of us & Ivy our usually waitress is so friendly, attentive, & remembers our order everytime!!!! Usually I would get a sweet potato tempura roll or the shrimp tempura or an eel cucumber roll! I would also usually get either the vegetable sautéed udon or rice noodles! Both are great dishes. They're also really filling & BIG! My favorite dish would be the miso sea bass! The miso pairs perfectly with the fish! The fish is so fresh & cooked to perfection! But today.. I switched it up! I got an eel cucumber hand roll no rice (love handrolls!!) & the pineapple shrimp fried rice sounded so good! When I got it, the bowl was a decent size, however I underestimated how filling it was going to be!! I was only a few spoonfuls in & I was already full! I was so pleasantly surprised how good it was! But I had a feeling it wouldn't dissapoint since I love this place so muop More...

We have been enjoying food at Fogama about every Two weeks for the past year and have found it to be consistently excellent.  Most of the reviews are accurate.  The fish is very fresh and creatively presented, it's not inexpensive, parking is a drag and the decor is dated.  It's very funny to read the occasional poor review on Yelp. It probably says more about the reviewers than the restaurant?  Raw Fish rarely can be an issue at 5 star NYC restaurants too but some people write truly bizarre reviews. More...

It's like that don't really know how to care to want you to come back.  Is t this part of a Japanese restaurants role?Regardless, the sushi is some of the best.  It is a step above anything you would find at Red Plum, Haiku, etc, but so are the prices.   The prices are NYC top end, but so is the cost of living in Rye. I came here the other week with a friend and had a wonderful time!  I spoke with the staff and asked our waiter, Shelby for his personal recommendations.  He was so polite, kind, and yet enthusiastic about the specials of the day and sake.  (You can really tell, when someone likes what they do)  He listened to our requests and he asked us if we add any allergies or special restrictions, which was great because my date was allergic to shellfish, and so was our waiter. LoL.  This immediately put me at ease and then we proceeded to order starting with edamame and sake first....1) Yamahai Daiginjo Tedorigawa, Nanago, & SuirakutenI am pretty familiar with Sake, but did not recognize most of the names on their sake list.  I usually like to drink Otokoyama, Dassai 50, Nanbu bijin, Wakatake Onigoroshi or something similar in nature.  Not wanting to look like a snob, I asked if it would be possible to taste some sake before buying it. (One can hope.... right?)Our waiter, Shelby said Yes, of course! (I was a happy man)  He came back and said that these 3 were the best sake in the house with a future one to come later.  The three sample shots he bought were were yamahai daiginjo tedorigawa (YDT), nanago (N), and suirakuten (S).  Here's my review for future guests and sake lovers-YDT- Dry, smooth, earthy- good to enjoy with heavier foodsN-Smooth, fruit-forward- good to enjoy as a dessert sake or if you like sweet drinksS-Dry, clean, smooth taste- good to pair with sushi/sashimiThey were all Daiginjo's (premium sake's) so we decided on a bottle of Suirakuten, it was the most expensive of all the 3, but who cares when you are having a good time. YOLO!!!On to the food......2) Slice N' Dice (Highly recommended)This was an amazing sashimi dish!  It had sliced and diced pieces of tuna, salmon, yellow tail, and avocado with micro greens and avocado sauce.  It was so good we forgot to take a picture of it until it was too late; actually the whole meal. Sorry. =(  Great dish; Compliments to the chef!3) Home made pork dumplingsGreat dumplings!  These suckers are filling but owww sooo good!  Bonus points, that they are home made and not the frozen stuff you see in the super market.4) Seared Toro (fatty tuna) SushiThese suckers melt like butter in your mouth!  I like how the seared part helps to break up the fatty sinew (muscle tissue) of the fish to make it taste semi-cooked and delicious at the same time.  This was a great recommendation from our waiter!  Cheers Shelby!5) Sushi Assortment- OmakaseWe wanted to enjoy more recommendations and ordered the Omakase (Chef's choice)  We got live scallops, live uni from California, Yellow tail belly, King salmon, King red snapper (madai), and a few other pieces I cannot remember, but they all tasted really soooo good.  We also got fresh wasabi with the omakase and that made it taste even better!   I was in sushi/sashimi heaven w/ the sake too. OMG!6) Sashimi King RollAs part of the omakase we were getting a roll too from the chef's and they were originally going to give us a King Triton roll (has lobster and shrimp in it) which was rated in the the NY Times, but because of my date's shellfish allergy they gave us the Sashimi King roll instead.  It was an amazingly tasty roll without rice; it had mango, tuna, crunch, spicy tuna inside, eel sauce and a couple other things I don't remember (Must be getting old).  It was good and a perfect last roll without rice, because we were already on the brink of full before this.7) Dessert and TeaDessert was a fruit cup with whip cream and some Jasmine green tea to help soothe with digestionOverall experienceI had a great time here, definitely a place to impress a date.  Definitely go with the Omakase if you want the best and freshest sushi/sashimi available.  Slice N' Dice and Seared Toro are the must have's here as well as the Home made pork dumplings.  Ask for Shelby, and he will be sure to take care of you, in the sake department as well.   Cheers to the Chef and staff at Fogama!   Great Job!!! The house dumplings and salmon wasabi crackers are also a usual must to start us off but as far as entrées, that varies depending on our mood.   I have not once been disappointed and I can tell the quality is top notch.  Other reviews have commented on price however you truly get what you pay for.  High quality, delicious food.   The owner Steve and wife Linda go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and pleased.  We are always greeted with a warm welcome and the servers are attentive and great as well.
