About

Our holistic approach to mood, anxiety, pain, and behavior disorders is significantly different from the typical approaches of other practitioners. We use state-of-the-art brain-based methods to understand the brain better, such as brain electrical activity mapping, assessments of the neurotransmitters and stress hormones, as well as evaluation of each person’s cognitive, emotional, spiritual, and relational skills and supports.

After meeting Dr Wes Center I was very impressed by his knowledge, process and desire to understand the individual he is working with. He doesn’t put people in a box based on his experience and treat them like a number. It’s obvious he cares about his clients and their outcomes. More...

I have been receiving treatment at Focus for Living since December 2012. I came to Focus for Living having symptoms of depression, anxiety, and insomnia. I was taking antidepressant medication when I started receiving treatment. I began neurofeedback and saw a lot of positive results. Neurofeedback is painless, and has helped me significantly reduce many of my previous symptoms and reduce my medication. I have maintained the progress I have made with neurofeedback. I also had neurotransmitter testing at Focus for Living and I am taking supplements to help me as well. I have used other methods of treatment at Focus for Living such as Audio Visual Entrainment (AVE) and Nexalin. They also taught me techniques such as diaphragmatic breathing and ANT Therapy. These have all been beneficial to me. The staff at Focus for Living are friendly and helpful and they are willing to work with you to help you achieve your goals. More...

Q&As

We love to help people function at their best, many times for the first time in years. Being a part of someone's life transformation is an incredible privilege, and one we never get used to. We'd love to be a part of your best self ever!

Dr. Center started Brain & Behavior Associates when he saw the pain and desperation on the face of his patients when he worked as a therapist in inpatient psychiatric facilities. Working with people who were chronically depressed, anxious, fatigued, struggling with trauma, head injuries, and mountains of life stressors, he saw that the system that was supposed to help them was often times sicker than the patients. Influenced by Dr. Daniel Amen and others, he pursued post doctoral training in neurofeedback, biofeedback, and other forms of addressing root causes, not symptoms. In the early Spring of 2010 he and Dr. Malinda Fasol began working with clients using their unique approach to mind-body-spirit, and the rest, as they say, is history!

We don't reduce people to their problems - you aren't your diagnosis. We treat you with dignity and respect, recognizing that, while there may be brain health issues that affect you profoundly in every aspect of life and relationships, you also have unique strengths, abilities, and life histories that can be incorporated into your plan of care.

The brain is involved in everything we do. Focusing, listening, problem solving, decision-making, relaxing, as well as how we behave, are all determined by brain health and function. Brain function determines our success or failure in the context of relationships, work, and academic performance. If there are problems in the brain, they result in problems in daily functioning. The great news is that the brain can learn to function more efficiently. We use the term “brain training” to describe the techniques we use to help improve the brain’s overall performance. Better brain function results in clearer thinking, more stable emotions, and behaviors that are more desirable and consistent. Our method of brain training is neurofeedback, EEG biofeedback, or neurotherapy. Unlike brain training games advertised for smart devices, we train the brain as we are imaging the electrical activity of the brain so that the training is precise and targeted to your brain. Neurofeedback is different from other forms of biofeedback by its focus solely on the brain and central nervous system. Neurofeedback takes into account behavioral, cognitive, and subjective aspects of individual function as well as brain activity. Neurofeedback challenges and trains the brain to function better. This powerful brain-based technique is not new; it has been successfully helping clients around the world for over 50 years. It is non-invasive with potentially dramatic results for a wide range of symptoms. Neurofeedback is neither experimental nor investigational. We base the mode or form of treatment on our overall assessment of your brain function and your current experience of symptoms, whether emotional, cognitive, behavior, or stress-related.

Biofeedback is a general term used to describe various approaches to recording physiological measures (biorhythms like heartbeat, skin temperature, breathing rate, etc.). That physiological information is presented to you using auditory or visual feedback. Did you know that you can exercise voluntary control over many of your body’s responses and reactions by voluntarily your body’s biorhythms? Biofeedback empowers you to self-regulate and change physiological responses to stressors of all sources (internal or from the environment). Additional improvements may be made in your focus, concentration, relaxation, and sleep as well as many other conditions through Neurofeedback (EEG biofeedback). The specific biofeedback intervention that is used will be based on a complete and thorough assessment.

Counseling at Brain & Behavior Associates is like having meaningful conversations with a friend who really wants to see you do well and will challenge you to grow. Our main approaches are Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, which are evidence based approaches. You are helped to gain control of unhealthy emotions and behaviors. This is also consistent with Scripture, such as where we are encouraged to “think on things that noble…right…pure…lovely…and admirable.” Phil. 4:8. At Brain & Behavior Associates, we work alongside you to help you evaluate problem thought patterns so that you can take greater control of your feelings, choices, actions and future. We understand that faith and spirituality are important aspects of many people’s overall life experience. The way in which we think about spirituality shapes our overall understanding and interpretation of life. At Brain & Behavior Associates, clinicians operate from the biblical Christian worldview and approach counseling from this framework. However, we are respectful of other faith traditions and belief systems. We may expose our way of seeing life like any friend would, but we never seek to impose our beliefs on anyone.
