I visited Rob after he was recommended by some running friends. I had Avery problematic calf and only a few days to try and repair any damages I’d done before running a half marathon. Rob is always amazing at identifying the physical problem but even more he is such a clever psychologist and in a really understated way with just quiet questions as he works, helps you understand the mindset issues that are sometimes so key to the physical issues that are going on. His massage is often toe curling painful as he unlocks the knots and tightness but there is always eventual gain to this short term pain! His training advice is very sound and based of years of experience. Also great advice on fuelling and nutrition. He will also be very honest if something is beyond his remit and needs another view. I thoroughly recommend Rob. He really listened to my problem, then gave me a good, targeted massage to sort it out – spending longer, but only charging me for an hour. He clearly knew his stuff, and gave me a lot of good advice on what else I could do to recover from my hamstring injury. At the end he told me to give it a few weeks and see how it went, so he’s clearly not trying to pressure clients into a whole series of treatments. Rob gave me the confidence to get through a marathon in spite of a training regime that was massively interrupted by injury. Worth a few sessions alone for the sports massages and subsequent exercises that have helped aid my recovery as well as great advice around preparation, recovery and rehabilitation. Rob was highly recommended and it didn’t take me long to see why. In the last few weeks of training for London Marathon I had horrendous pain in my foot/calf which I feared would stop me from running. After just one session with Rob it felt so much better and thanks to his guidance and 2 more rather painful but miracle massages I was pain free and completed the marathon with a smile on my face just 2 weeks later. After having IT band issues with my knees around the 1 hour 45 minute mark every time I ran Rob was able in one session deep massage and strap my legs with rock tape enabling me to get to over the 3 hour mark before I felt any serious pain and I was able to complete my first London Marathon....thank you!!!

Rob came recommended after I signed up for Manchester marathon, his coaching has been fantastic, he has been professional and incredibly helpful. He’s kept in touch with me throughout my programme and even helped when I was confused about fuelling for those longer runs. I’ve been to see a lot of people like Rob over the years through sporting endeavours, and it has to be said that he is one of the best I’ve come across. Although not always entirely pleasant or pain-free, the massages from Rob are great. He will get to the root of the problem pretty quickly and isn’t afraid to tackle it. As an ageing golfer, struggling with a combination of lack of rotational flexibility and Plantar Faciitis issues, my golfing experience, prior to seeing Rob had been far from enjoyable. Following a recommendation from a close friend, I have since received a number of treatments from Rob, along with some excellent advice on warm up techniques and appropriate exercises to do at home. As a result he has significantly helped me with my rotational flexibility, easing my back pain in the process which has helped me swinging my clubs, particularly when using my driver. The holistic approach to his treatments have also eased my long standing Plantar Faciitis symptoms, making my overall golfing experience a much less painful one and has reduced the need for using pain killers each and every time that I play. Monday 4th March saw me having my 1st massage with Rob , problematic hamstring... On a scale of 1 -10 ( child birth is 10 ) “ how’s the pain “ I was asked as the massage progressed 6/7 my reply ( between gritted teeth , hope you’re getting the picture lol ) . . So I got recommended to rob after doing the norwich half 2018 . I went for massage which always get u back on road if u feel ur injured . I was struggling with my running and never getting quicker . Rob then all year has been putting running plans in for me . This has seen me smash my times from going 10k 1.05 to under hour best being 56.39 . Then my half marathon from 2.28 to 2.14 . Not only have I seen massive improvement in my times but Rob really help me in my self confidence. We have now started personal training to work along side my training for the London marathon.i always get worried that I’m Doing exercises wrong but rob never make u feel that way . Saw Rob for lower back pain that has been really troublesome . One massage session and I can’t believe the difference .. .. turns out it’s was my hamstrings and glutes causing the issue ... I had heard about Rob’s work from some guys at the Norwich Road Runners. I had been having sore Achilles during running which was getting to the stage where I could not do my normal 3-4 run training week. During the first massage, ouch, Rob quickly diagnosed tight muscles especially my calves which was a relief as you always hope it is not major damage when injured. It was quite noticeable on my next run that while I still had pain is was not as pronounced as before. 2 sessions were booked and since then the Achilles pain week by week has decreased to the point where 6 weeks later I an now running back to normal on my usual training plan and in recent weeks setting race pb’s. Equally was a good reminder to myself to make sure I stick to my usual stretching and strength routine which as runners we often get lazy with. Huge thx to Rob for his help and expertise and what I liked the most is there was never any pressure to continually go back for more treatment which can over time become a bit of a money pit. I contacted Rob after completing a few sprint triathlons and wanted to set myself a new goal. After recovering from ACL reconstruction I did not think it would be possible to try longer races straight away. However, Rob put together training plans for me to achieve a sub 6 hr half Ironman time. Along the way I had many questions and Rob was always able to share his knowledge and help me make informed decisions about nutrition, injury prevention and training methods. As well as being highly qualified I found Rob to be welcoming and approachable no matter how silly my questions may have been! I have and will continue to strongly recommend Rob to anyone who has a goal and is in need of words of wisdom about how to make it a reality. Excellent service. I asked Rob to help me train for a sprint triathlon I had 12 weeks, he developed a plan around my job and commitments. A month in feeling strong I changed my mind and upped to Olympic. Rob adapted my plan and last week I completed my challenge. I beat the time I hoped for and felt comfortable. He told me to trust him and that was key, he knows what he is doing and I didn’t just get round I felt positive and enjoyed the whole experience. I’m asking Rob to help me with my next challenge. I first met Rob when he was providing massages to the 200 mile epic cycle ride around Norfolk. On that day I actually felt better on day 2 than the first. Since then he has really helped with getting my knee in shape to do Run Norwich. Rob is far more than just a sports massage. I would highly recommend Rob, I regularly go to see him for sports massages. After recently completing a marathon I had continuing issues with knee pain, Rob has given me lots of great advice and is very knowledgeable, although the massages are painful at times it’s so worth it. I had a painful/tight shoulder for around 8 months from flailing around hopelessly in the gym. After 5 massages with tips on stretching and foam rolling and I’d say it’s 90% pain free. It's the third time I've visited Rob today @focusforfitness and I couldn't be happier. I have been struggling for months with nagging injuries and I now feel that I'm finally on the mend. I did my first effort session yesterday without ill effects since January. This has been in a large part down to his assessment, treatment and advice. He has helped my injury with, yeah, kinda painful in thew beginning but effective massage. But in between our sessions he's given me clear guidance on foam rolling and self massage techniques that has also contributed to the improvement over the last few weeks to a point now where I can run again pain free. Focus 4 Fitness uses sports psychology, 16 years of personal training experience and a sports therapy level understanding of physiology and movement to give clients a personal approach to achieving their goals. I sit down with clients to understand what they want (sometimes if they don't have a goal we put one in place), get a real understanding of the things that are stopping them already achieve that goal alone and then work together to address the barriers.

Once the groundwork is done, I carry out health & fitness test and a biomechanical analysis to ensure the client is physically able to achieve there goal. I can correct posture imbalances and weaknesses to make them physically and mentally ready.

Now comes the awesome part - LETS GO GET THAT GOAL!!

Consistency is key - better to train regularly for short periods of time than longer and infrequently.
Variation - consistently doing different things when you exercise keeps your body guessing and keeps your body changing.
Intensity - Consistent, varied and good intensity training will get your body into that dream state!

Nutrition - this should not be underestimated. You cannot outwork a bad diet. Dream bodies are made in the kitchen not in the gym (or Focus 4 Fitness clinic!).

I get such a buzz from watching clients succeed. Whether it be from getting another awesome review or testimonial or watching a client complete a marathon. Getting emails telling me how clients are enjoying the new them and seeing teams hit the top of the tables gives me a massive rush! Having someone limp in to my clinic and walk out 60 minutes later after a sports massage or seeing a client visibly change in front of my eyes when I help them realise they can change everything - gives me such job satisfaction, i'm not going to ever do anything else.

I started Focus 4 Fitness because I recognised a failing in the industry - other fitness professionals did not and could no address the importance of the body-mind connection. You can have the best nutrition plan, the best fitness plan, the most motivational and knowledgeable coach in the world and yet if your mind-set is not ready, you won't succeed - no matter how hard you try.

I wanted to give clients a service that can address this short-coming while at the same time delivering industry leading services. A personal trainer who is an expert in behaviour and human change technology, can help give you the understanding of the little things that make the big difference and make sure we look after your body all the way - that was my goal. The reality? Focus 4 Fitness!
