I went to a Kettlebell HITT class with Lori as the instructor. I was extremely intimidated as I'd never used kettlebells before. Lori went above and beyond to give me thorough instruction and gave great positive reinforcement! Excellent and well used gym that won't pester you. Large amount of equipment (cardio, freeweights, machines, classes and personal trainers. Locker room has showers and a sauna. I have only ever been to the fitness classes there as my friends are trainers and/or take part in the classes. The kickboxing class is one of the best group fitness classes I have ever attended and I've been to group classes in Halifax, Calgary, and Winnipeg. It's an intense cardio workout, with lots of time hitting the bag, body weight exercises, trainers that push you, and great music! The location is small, but it's very convenient to get to and doesn't ever seem to be too jam packed/busy. I highly recommend taking advantage of the fitness classes! This is the best gym in Halifax! There is a nice mix of old and new equipment from machines to free weights and cardio machines on the main floor. In the basement FX has a power lifting section, cardio room, boxing area, and cycling room. This place is rad!! The gym has it all, it has a classic gym vibe which was super cool and it has 4 different rooms for classes. They even have a kickboxing room which was exactly what I was looking for and the staff there is extra nice (Canadians and more specifically Nova Scotians are the best). Arguably the best gym in the city. Staff is always very friendly and the prices cant be beat, especially with the student deals available. Equipment works great and is plentiful so you will rarely be waiting for anything except perhaps at peak times. There is also a smoothie bar where you can get some delicious post workout drinks. Parking can be found at the McDonalds beside the gym, I have never had a problem finding a spot. Can not recommend this gym enough to someone looking for a new or their first gym. More...

Fitness FX is an incredible gym. Their equipment, although older, is in good working order, clean, and very wide-ranging in variety. Seriously, this place has a TON of equipment and options for newbies and those more experienced. Busiest times seem to be from 2pm to 7pm, and even then, I've been in way busier gyms. I have been going four to five months. There are always enough benches, and I can rotate through the other equipment I need without a problem. I find the environment motivating with a range of people from your weight lifting junkies to the average person trying to be their best selves. Yes, sometimes the cleanliness is questionable, but nothing out of line for a gym. And it doesn't smell particularly bad. It smells like a bunch of people working hard, and that is a part of going to a gym. More...

The hours are great and it never really feels like it is too busy to get what you need to done. There are a range of people from body builders to average trying to be better.
