Had the opportunity to meet Riss at his studio.  He graciously made himself available to provide a 'first time' water color lesson for my 8 year old Grand Girl.  Our birthday gift to her.  His communication, encouragement, instruction and manner  created a perfect opportunity for her to have a very positive experience.  He was patient, encouraging, informative, respectful, fun!  A perfect balance of genuinely teaching/coaching/assisting/guiding yet leaving plenty of room for her to express her creativity and ask questions and apply his instructions.  He did not 'do the painting for her'.  An excellent experience and she is very eager for her next session. Ive been here for two months and my experience has been amazing. The way Russ teaches is amazing, he is patient, funny and a really nice guy. When I came here I was drawling stick figures and now I can paint awesome paintings in just two months. His price is reasonable too. Russ is a great guy-- very friendly and down-to-earth. I appreciate that he treats each person as a unique individual. He takes the time to work with each student so everyone is moving along comfortably at their own pace and in the medium that interests them. My son has been very happy here.

OK-I found the studio online and was a bit apprehensive as he only had one review and it was negative. The reviewer said that this man was rude and just stay away. I figured what the heck - maybe I was a little intrigued, so I called anyhow. The gentleman who answered answered the phone owns the studio and his name is Russ. I was pleasantly surprised by my interaction with Russ. He couldn't have been more polite, courteous and quite frankly delightful to speak with! More...

My daughter and I we came to the Fine Art Studio tree weeks ago to meeting Russ.He very kind and an amazing teacher.and my daughter suggested we celebrate for her 10th birthday party here. The studio itself is very cute. Russ and Brooke they took care of us from the beginning they're was very helpful.in reserving our spot and making sure the kids having fun.my daughter and all her friends had so much fun and a great time definitely we will coming back. My husband purchased a Groupon allowing me to attend a one hour class with Russ. Although my Groupon had just expired Russ was kind enough to honor it. I have nothing but good things to say about him and his studio. It is a smaller studio in a quiet location and I took the class with two other people. During that hour he was able to help me get an idea of how to sketch and then work on the full picture with colored pencils. For someone like me who rarely ever draws it was very exciting to leave with a semi finished project. Russ is good at helping you understand the mechanics of drawing and to feel comfortable as a beginner. I would highly recommend his studio to a beginner or an advanced student as he is more than qualified to work with those as well. More...

My daughter, 11 years old, LOVES working with Russ. The class size is small and he gives everyone one on one attention. The kids decide what they want to draw, what media they want to use, etc. Russ is there to bring out the creativity and the artistic talent in them and show them the right techniques. My daughter has brought home fantastic pieces. She is amazed at what she can create. He is flexible with make up classes or changing class times. I cannot say enough good things about this studio. My daughters, 8 and 6, have been taking art lessons with Russ the last 2 months and they love it! They have taken art classes elsewhere before and here's what my older daughter said after taking her first lesson with Russ when I asked her how it is different from other art classes. Here's what she says:"I like this class better because Russ asked what I would like to draw today. The other class, they just help us draw outlines and ask us to copy the same picture on the board"Russ is good with children by allowing them freedom to explore. Yet, he guides them  at the same time to help them see deeper and bringing what they see onto their drawing pad with proper technique.The small class size is definitely a plus as he is able to spend time with each student. My son started taking art lessons here and after just one class, my son has been drawing non-stop! Â One of the best things about Russ is that he keeps the class sizes so small that all the kids get individual attention throughout the art class. Â I love that all the students are working on their own projects and everyone gets to choose what they want to draw and what type of medium they will use on their project. My 15-year-old son has been attending the Fine Art Studio in Tustin, owned by Russ Varon, for the past school year, September 2010 to May 2011. He enjoys it very much and finds his art teacher to be supportive, helpful, kind and talented. My son has produced some excellent artwork under Russ’s tutelage. I think the fine arts studio in Irvine is one of the best in Orange County and recommend it to everyone. The study environment is comfortable and pleasant. The instructor, Russ Varon, is wonderful and creates a happy friendly atmosphere that is a pleasure to learn in.
