We LOVED this place... stayed 1 night to break up a very long journey from oxford to Belfast... arrived after 9pm following a 7 hour journey. .. staff were super friendly, prepared us a bite to eat which was above and beyond as the kitchen had closed... showed us to a beautifully decorated, clean and spacious room with a very comfy bed ....made us and our 6 month old puppy very welcome... biscuits for the dog arrived with our food to our room... delicious breakfast in a beautiful dinning area... dog had so much fuss and attention from staff, they even offered to look after him while we ate in peace as regular travellers with a dog we will definitely be back here and would highly recommend... beautiful location with plenty of walking spots and grounds... nothing was too much trouble and the rates were great! Thank you for a wonderful welcome, Liane, James and Finn More...

My wife and I have recently returned from our weekend away in Castle Douglas. This hotel is set away overlooking the nearby hills. When we arrived, there was some restoration work ongoing but the workers were never heard and hardly seen. The staff were very friendly, attentive and engaged in conversation. The owner explained his plans for the hotel, which included the restoration work. |The food, both breakfast and dinner was fresh and flavoursome and reasonably| priced. |For 2 nights it was £70/night, which I thought more than reasonable. |Great effort. My husband and I stayed in this excellent and charming hotel while visiting a family member living nearby. We were so pleased to be accommodated in the bridal suite even though we didn’t qualify as a newly wed couple ourselves! The room is very spacious and bright with a high ceiling with the original cornices. There is a very neat and separate dressing room with a full length mirror and dressing table which would be ideal for a bride to prepare for her big day. Off the dressing room there is a spacious bathroom with modern fittings, a walk in shower and a fabulous roll top bath. The suite is furnished an enormous sleigh bed, a period armoire, a dressing table and a large TV. ||Breakfast is all cooked to order and the full Scottish is enormous. There is also vegetarian option which is just as huge! We had dinner on all three evenings and particularly enjoyed the choice of curries. These are expertly prepared by the owner Shashank himself acknowledging his family ties to India. The menu has a lovely range of choices and caters very well for vegetarians. ||We didn’t have our dog with us but we were pleased to know that doggies are more than welcome.||Shashank, his wife and friendly staff could not have done more to make our stay so comfortable. His concern for our family member who was recovering from a stay in hospital was very touching and we can’t thank him enough for his personal kindness in this respect. ||Ernespie House would make an ideal stopover on one’s way to another destination but we would recommend a longer stay to explore the area and to enjoy the town of Castledouglas itself. ||We are already looking forward to our next visit. This is our first stay at Ernespie House Hotel although we have stayed in the area many times before. My husband and I stayed with our two daughters in two family rooms. We found everyone there very welcoming, and rooms very clean and comfortable, and the food fantastic. ||The lobby is really cosy and inviting, and the owner is going to be installing real fires in the fireplace, which will make this already fabulous room even more welcoming. The rooms were really clean and the beds super comfy. We had dinner in the evening in the hotel, and all meals were delicious. Breakfast in the morning was fantastic. The scottish porridge with honey was lovely, as was the delicious scrambled eggs and smoked salmon.||We had a fantastic weekend and are already planning our return visit next Summer.||Thank you Ernespie House Hotel! We were looking for a decent place to stay and found it without paying a silly price.||It is a unique building and has a very welcoming interior once you get past the seemingly closed front door. It is a double door and could easily been half open during daytime. Once inside you are in a large comfortable period oak panelled lounge. This leads through to a nice dining room and bar serving good freshly prepared food. There is a welcoming open fire burning logs. We sat in the window with a good view over rolling countryside. Breakfast is in the same room, again a good fire. Full Scottish included in the price. For me porridge and bacon, eggs, the full monty. For my wife, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Although at a lower level our room was spacious with a good bathroom, no bath but a decent shower. We had booked a twin room and in fact had a double and a single. I went for th double, mistake. It had no springs at all and was like sleeping on a pile of old rope. If we go again then I will check out the bed quality before I commit. This was my only complaint which I didn’t pursue and maybe spoil our short trip. Check out the bed quality, go, stay and enjoy.||I think all hoteliers should spend one night in every bed they have, then we should have better beds and no complaints. More...

Lovely old manor house walking distance to town. Plenty of parking up a long driveway so it feels secure. Suitable for any size of vehicle, no height restrictions. Some scaffolding up on the building and driveway resurfacing going on but this didn't spoil our stay. We had room B, a stunningly large room with dressing room and bathroom with roll top bath and large walk in shower, luxury toiletries. A super comfortable giant bed with luxury bedding. The steak pie for dinner was the best I have had world wide, I'd return for this alone. Service at breakfast was a little bit slow. Some staff members would need a little bit more training. That's why I only gave 4 stars. This wouldn't stop me returning though as I'm sure this will be rectified.
