To paraphrase A E Housman, I don’t choose the right words, I just take out the wrong ones.

All communication is about telling a story, regardless of whether it’s a fictional or factual one.

But no-one will sit up and take notice of your story if it is badly executed. That’s where I come in. I will work with you to ensure that your story, by which I mean your book, your essay, your article or your business plan, has the impact that you want it to have.

Good and effective writing fulfills the following criteria:

Is powerful and pleasurable to read
Is focused
Is well directed
Has a structure which is easy to follow
Uses elegant and memorable language
Has a smooth narrative flow
Contains proper spellings, grammar and punctuation.

My editing service is sub-divided into three different categories.

Proofreading is about the technical aspects of writing, i.e. spelling, punctuation and basic grammar. It is really a cosmetic process only. If you are confident that your writing is good and engaging, then proofreading is really just a final stage of catching and eliminating these surface errors.

Copy Editing

Copy editing is a deeper level of editing. I will ensure that spelling, grammar and punctuation are correct but also ensure that there are no inconsistencies and checking structure, style and flow. This may involve re-working some of the text and changes to the structure to ensure that the writing is focused, powerful and pleasurable to read.

Content Editing

This is a much deeper and more intensive process, involving not just corrections but possibly adding things that appear to have been omitted or which need to be added for sense, style and flow. It may involve re-writing some sections of text or deleting other where they are superfluous, repetitious or boring.

I can provide editing services in respect of:

Short Stories
White Papers
Business Plans
Website Content

Englishography Q&A

Englishography Q&A

What do you love most about your job?

The process of crafting something; of polishing and refining a raw product into a thing of satisfaction and beauty. I really enjoy doing this.

What inspired you to start your own business?

I have always worked for myself. I am a solicitor and have been a partner in my own firm and a consultant solicitor too. Most of the job of being a lawyer involves writing and crafting things like witness statements or contracts and that is how I honed the skill of precise and accurate writing.
I have been acting as an informal editor for friends and family for a long time, so it was easy to decide to start doing the same thing professionally.

Why should our clients choose you?

Because I understand the importance of quality service and deadlines. This has been the basis of my entire professional working life. Simply put, I aim to be the best in my field so every client and every project is of the utmost importance in helping me to achieve that end.
