Metrical Design

Rachel helped us with the designs and plans for a living room and bathroom renovation. From coming up with the concept right up to the finishing details and plans, she guided us towards a result which both me and my husband love (not an easy feat as we have differing opinions on everything to do with the house! )

When we started to make calls with interior designers we pretty early realised the different styles and approaches that different studios use. Some were immediately trying to upsell ideas (go bigger so they can charge a bigger %%), others were basically just reading us as potential clients and said exactly what we wanted to hear...Then we found Metrical Design and spoke to Rachel who was neither of those and felt more honest from the get-go. So that was step one.

Then we started to work together and our first impressions were confirmed. We had architects/designers in the past that basically just created what we told them to. Now if you have a vision and you just need someone to put that vision into reality with plans and drawings, then by all means that’s enough for you (though in our experience those that do didn’t charge any less), but if you like to be surprised by new & smart ideas and thoughts/suggestions (even if it was just little things like light switches or a corner light - and the small things and attention to details are what can make a huge difference in the design flow and consistency) then you need to look elsewhere. Rachel did a great job working with our brief, but not fully following it, so we could then in a conversation in the second step filter out what worked, what didn’t, and we came to a really great solution for our project.

Over time Rachel put the ideas into actual plans and we now have a full pack of visualisations/plans/drawings that we can use to go to prospective builders to put it into action.

We couldn’t be happier with the process and with Rachel. We have had some serious delays on our side, but even after months of having the finalised visuals with us, we can honestly say we don’t want to change a thing, and can’t wait to put the vision into reality. Thank you Rachel! More...

We contacted Metrical Design in order to get some help with the design of our living room and master bedroom. Now we can say that we are really happy with our choice of Metrical Design. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of decisions to be made when undertaking a renovation project; without doubt choosing Rachel as our designer was the best one we made. Originally we were only looking for someone to help draw up some plans of the proposed revised internal layout to help with the builders quotes & planning permission but having met Rachel and discussed our plans with her we decided to employ her to help with the overall design. I am so pleased we did. She was able to listen to what we wanted and articulate that into an interior design that still felt our own but was way beyond what I could ever have achieved. She provided advice and suggestions on all the elements of the finished design with her sense of scale and colour adding infinitely to the finished look. She is patient, diligent and always responded swiftly to any questions or concerns we had. Rachel also managed the build for us which took the stress off us - I actually really enjoyed the whole process...how many people ever say that about a building project! In addition, due to COVID, the process took months longer than originally planned but Rachel’s fee remained unchanged, despite the multitude of changes of mind I had during lockdown trawling pintrest, which undoubtedly added to her workload.
