It is immediately clear how passionate Emma is about her work and she made me feel we could discuss what the options were for as long as needed and not rushed.

Our experience with Emma and her colleagues was fantastic. I knew absolutely nothing about the process of getting an engagement ring made, but Emma made it easy for me and helped me pick out the perfect ring for my fiancee Alice. I wanted a bespoke ring, something extra special and unique for Alice, and Emma made sure I was able to get that at an affordable price. Not only that, but the ring also comes in a lovely personalised box which Alice can keep it safe in when she is not wearing it. The after-care has also been excellent, with Emma more than happy for us to come in and see her to check whether the ring is the appropriate size and re-fit it if necessary. What pleased us most is that Emma Hedley Jewellery is a local business, rather than a national or multi-national corporation, and I hope it continues to thrive - and I'm sure it will on the evidence of the dealings we have had with them. What do you love most about your job?
Being part of the magical process of designing engagement rings, it's just such an exciting time in a couples lives and I feel so lucky to be part of it! I also love seeing the joy on peoples faces when they come to collect their finished pieces, it's just the best feeling ever!
What inspired you to start your own business?
I've always loved making things and been drawn to pretty sparkly things!
My business began in 2003, when I went on a round the world trip and ran out of funds in Queenstown, New Zealand. So I sat on the street and decided to see what I could come up with. Using a few beads and some wire, scissors and tweezers that I had with me, I started making rings. They sold like hot caked and I managed to fund the rest of my trip! I realised then that this was something I could develop.
Why should our clients choose you?
If you're looking for something a little bit different and extra special, I put so much love and care and thought into each part of the process, and want to make sure I get it just right for each customer. I aim to use Fairtrade, recycled or ethically sourced gold, diamonds and gemstones wherever possible. Each engagement ring is presented in an artisan velvet ring box, in a colour of your choice, monogrammed with your initial on the lid in a luxurious gold, silver or rose foil. It's the finishing touches that just make all the difference!
