We are new to the Chicagoland area, and we have recently taken our daughters to see Hansel and Gretel as well as BFG. The girls loved both shows. Thank you for creating wonderful productions for our children. Theatre and music are fantastic gifts to give the kids. More...

We are big fans of Emerald City Theatre! I've taken my kiddos to a bunch of shows, and we have loved each and every one of them. One of my favorite visits is the Girl Scout event at Emerald City Theatre where they invite troops to come to see a show, set up an thoughtful activity for them, provide an interesting Q&A session and give each Girl Scout a badge/patch. Thanks for serving the community so well, Emerald City Theatre- you deserve a standing ovation! More...

We took a 4 year old to see "The Three Little Kittens" and it was the best experience we could have asked for! He had such a great time singing, dancing and playing along with the actors. I was worried to bring him because he is so active and knew it would be difficult for him to sit through an entire show. They created such a fun and energetic atmosphere that allowed him to be exposed to theatre but still be actively engaged. He keeps talking about how he wants to go back. I HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking for something fun to do with young kids in the city! More...

We saw the Junie B. Jones "Jingle Bells, Batman Smells" play last month and it was a great show! We were slightly disappointed that the kids didn't get their books autographed by their favorite character, post show. To their surprise, the kids were shocked and delighted to see an autographed post card come in the mail. So cool! Thanks Emerald City Theatre! You made the kid's day and now they have a new favorite book mark! More...

This a review of the children's acting classes.  My 7 year old daughter attended their acting classes for the age group of 5-8.  It was her first time taking any acting classes and it was a great, low-pressure introduction.  She loved learning the songs and really loved getting into character.  The children learned one play each semester, which was performed for the parents during the last class.  There is no "lead."  Each child gets about the equivalent number of lines.  My only gripe is that the space for the final performance is very small and a lot of parents make no attempt to limit the number of guests they bring, so it gets a little crowded.  I wish they'd guarantee seats to two guests of each child and then fit everyone else in where they can. I recently enjoyed a performance of The WIZ from Emerald City at The Apollo. What an upbeat, fun and funny production. The 250+ children (age 5-12) who watched along with me really enjoyed the performance by singing along, dancing in their chairs, and giggling at the jokes. I've seen several different Emerald City productions and they always delight, inspire and (don't tell the kids) educate. Quality theatre for young people at a fraction of the traditional theatre price. More...

I went to Emerald City's show Teddy Bears' Picnic that is being performed in their newest space, "The Little Theatre". The show is billed as 'baby theatre' and is geared toward kids ages 0-4. My little guy was only 3 months when we went but it was still a very enjoyable experience! The Lobby in and of itself is an experience. Toys and furniture donated by Land of Nod is colorful, clean and stimulating for their little eyes. There was something for everyone, even some older brothers and sisters who were there with their families enjoyed playing on the magnet wall while waiting for the show to start. The best part about the lobby (for a mom of an infant specifically) there are two large, family sized bathrooms. EACH with a changing table. You don't see that a lot, even in places geared toward kids. The performance space was cozy, inviting and so much fun. The way this show worked, each kid gets a basket of props and interacts with the characters in the show   using those props as directed by the performers. Parents are not only allowed, but encouraged to get up, move around, talk to their children and engage in the experience. The performers get down on the kids level and greet them so there is a lot of personal connection and you could see even some of the shyest children open up at the sight of a puppet or new toy. The performers even stick around at the end for photo ops! really great show, can't wait to go back for whatever is next! More...

My child's 6 year old party was held there, with 25 children. The party was a huge success. Everything, from the preplanning activities to the actual event itself, was handled very efficiently and professionally. The teachers were very energetic and enthusiastic and did an outstanding job of engaging 25 children (including both boys and girls, mostly boys). They put on a play at the end for the parents that was created by the children and you could tell that every single child had a blast. The teachers handled all the food service, meet and greet activities and setup and clean up for us, and as the previous reviewer said, all I did was show up with the food and goodie bags. Many parents told me afterwards that their kids had a blast. If you think your children will enjoy a theatre-themed event, it's a no brainer to do this - I think we might just do this again next year! More...

My 5 y/o daughter's Wizard of Oz party at Emerald City's southport location was magical fun for boys and girls. The staff was easy to work with, the kids had a great time and the play they put on for parents at the end was precious. If you are looking for an original venue for your creative kid's birthday party that requires little more than sending out invites & showing up with a cake and goodie bags, this is a wonderful venue.
