From the start of the project, we liked the way Sean engaged with us to ensure our vision of what we wanted turned into the practical realities of the build. He was always available to support us when we had concerns during construction or just wanted to talk out a new idea.Our home is now complete, and we are very happy with it. Sean took time understanding what we wanted and preparing detailed drawings for review and editing or agreement pre-submission to planners. Close liaison with builders throughout the project and pertinent comments at the pre-tender/tender stage re reasonableness of tenders. Prepared to support us as clients where (unusually) builders' or sub-contractors' work below standard. Flexible where our thoughts havered/developed during the process.Sean's knowledgeable and charming PA was very good on monitoring emails, keeping us aware of developments and up dated on issues (eg his likely turnround time allowing for other projects, availability for meetings) so managing our/ but responding to expectations appropriately.We particularly appreciated Sean's attention to detail and ability to project manage the job (for which we thought his fees were very reasonable) on our behalf. They have come up with a design that was exactly what I wanted with twists that improved the design that I had envisaged.

Sean MacMillan designed a Hotel renovation for our property, Haven Hall in Shanklin on the Isle of Wight.
He was excellent to work with and very receptive to comments and suggestions.
A real team player.
I also appreciated how he delivered all work when he said that he would. A real example of underpromising and over-delivering. All at a reasonable cost

John Sutton is an architectural engineer – maybe a bit like Mr Spock mind-melds Frank Lloyd Wright. Deciding to hire John for what grew into a demo-rebuild of our small cottage in Ryde turned out to be pounds well-spent. We’re from the US (10 years in UK). It’s been challenging to re-learn work processes and the like in what is known here as a ‘self-build’ project. We had to trust the knowledge and judgment of a professional we hired entirely on reputation. What could go wrong?Well, it was a good decision: John as Elmstone Design took us through design and planning issues in a conservation area, gaining planning permission having listened closely to our needs whilst making the case for what is quite a change.We’re readying for next stages now. Elmstone have supporting and working with Northwood House Charitable Trust for the past three years - in that time their technical expertise, support and advice has been exemplary. During this time major projects have included the restoration of the Rotunda car park and walls, extensive roof works and a major structural project to support the main ceiling and central building core. Their innovative design has now been put forward for an RIBA award and their eventual solution was 70% less that other designs.Recently Elmstone were the consulting engineers on the first phase of the 300 year old main barn project - designing the entire framework and overseeing the successful project. We are now working on Phase 2 of the HLF bid for the restoration of the iconic Grade II Church Lodge - having successfully submitted phase one. I enlisted the structural services of Elmstone Design a couple of years ago when I had rainwater ingress at lower ground floor level of my house in Cowes. The insurance company would not assist financially due to proximity to the river Medina. John from Elmstone came straight away and surveyed the home and returned with a report and cost-effective solution.Elmstone Design saved me thousands with their knowledge and proposals. Customer service was excellent and I was reassured and confident with the advice given, in a situation that was stressful and potentially costly. The structural engineer took time to explain the situation to me and dealt with my concerns sensitively and professionally and developed a solution to meet my budget and rectify the problem.
