What inspired you to start your own business?
I wanted to be able to work in a way that is line with my own values and ethics - putting people at the heart of my work.
Why should our clients choose you?
I currently work in my own private practice as a counsellor, I’m a Director of Counselling Works Ltd, I'm a member of the MindTalk team in Market Harborough, and I work as a volunteer counsellor for a charity. In the past I've worked for the NHS in schools with bereaved adolescents.
I have experience of working with clients across a number of presenting issues for example: Abuse (physical, sexual, verbal), Addiction, Anger, Anxiety (General & Social), Aspergers Syndrome, Behavioural Issues, Bereavement, Depression, Eating Problems, Low Self-Esteem, Relationship issues, Sexuality, Work issues, Self Harm, Stress to name but a few. I’ve also worked with clients who feel they need to change their circumstances, but don’t know where to start. I have provided counselling over different time periods ranging from 6-8 weeks to 3 years depending on the personal change the client wants to affect. I'm also comfortable working with different belief systems such as Atheism, Christianity, Judaism, Spiritualism and with clients from different cultures.

Counselling is based on the idea that by sharing your thoughts, feelings and experiences with someone in a safe non-judgemental environment, you can begin to process them. Processing your experiences means staying with them long enough to make sense of them which can then generate insight and sometimes new choices. Often distress is caused in a relationship with someone else e.g. a parent, partner, friend, sibling etc and therefore working through your feelings in a therapeutic relationship can help to remedy this. This is why it’s important that you choose a counsellor who you feel is a good fit with your personality and way of working.
