I am very unhappy with Durn House. We had a wedding booked for July 13, 2019 and we had to cancel. We gave 96 days notice for the cancellation. We had paid for half the wedding by the time we cancelled...we won't get that money back..this is outlined in the contract. We also paid for all the rooms in Durn House for July 12 and July 13 2019. With 96 days notice, we expected to get the money back for those rooms ...I can also see that the rooms are available for rent on the Durn Website...in fact 2 are gone already. Durn House will not give us our money back. Most hotels and luxury Houses give a refund with 96 days notice...as they can easily still rent out all the rooms. DURN HOUSE WILL NOT GIVE A REFUND! Most reputable establishments give you the money back for the rooms with 96 days notice (regardless is the rooms have a small discount). DURN HOUSE WILL NOT. We were told by locals that Durn House has financial difficulties and have trouble keeping staff...we did not believe this as we were dealing with Durn's wonderful and lovely Wedding Planner Kim. Well Durn's Wedding Planner has now quit...and Durn won't refund our room payments (they made us pay in full)....we are wondering if the rumours are true?? We really looked forward to our wedding at Durn...we are very upset that circumstances caused us to cancel. My Fiance and i are at an emotionally low moment in our lives...we are further saddened that Durn House won't refund our room money with 96 days notice...and that they are renting our rooms without giving us a refund. Durn House looks like a lovely place to have a wedding....just be careful on refunds you may have expected. Even if they don't make you aware of details...read that fine print with Durn House. Myself and my husband stayed here for the weekend for an anniversary treat, and it was amazing! The house is stunning, so much to take in. The staff were lovely and always so helpful and on the go non-stop. We stayed in the Durn suite which is beautiful, couldn't fault it. Huge compliments also to the chef for our 7 course meal on the Friday night. Thank-you for a great weekend. More...

Me and the wife stop for four nights and had the best of times, the food was excellent, staff could not do enough for us, this was our fourth time at Durn house, and we travel 400 mile to get there, well worth the journey

We had our wedding at Durn House on 7th October and we had a wonderful day. The staff at Durn House really worked hard to make our day so special.
Many, many thanks to Lyndsey but especially to Bev, Aenea, Graeme the chef, Mary the housekeeper and to everyone who made the entire weekend so fabulous. The house was spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming for ourselves and our guests. Every detail we had asked for was included; nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing and served by attentive but unobtrusive staff. The chef even went personally into Buckie to source a stand for our wedding cake and we were given a beautiful engraved cake knife to keep.
Durn House is the perfect venue for a wedding and we have memories we will never forget; We are already planning to return next year for our first anniversary! The current Events team have delivered a great experience in a relaxed and extremely customer focused way. Our day, our weekend was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Thank you again to the whole team.

We came for afternoon tea. Excellent service and food which catered perfectly for my wheat and milk allergies. Our dogs were welcome too and enjoyed it.

Our time at Durn House is coming to an end, we have met some lovely people during our stay, but such is the rich tapestry of life , I am sure that this won't be our last visit here and all being well hopefully be back for next year's hogmanay celebration.
The staff have been very professional in there work and nothing has been to much trouble for them, they do your business a credit. The food has been cooked and served to the highest standards . Durn house is a hidden away gem on the moray firth.

We went there as part of our honeymoon with our two dogs. The staff were wonderful and gave us a complimentary bottle of prosecco, waived the dog fee and the chef even gave the dogs the leftovers from the stew.
We had an excellent time and the bed was one of the comfiest beds I’ve ever slept in.

Amazing night away in a beautiful guest house. Food was delicious and would rival a Michelin star restaurant.
Breakfast in bed was just fab.
Staff were lovely, helpful and nothing was to much trouble for them.

Great place to do an event, staff made you very welcome and food was amazing, loved the history and the rooms are very comfortable full of lovely pictures, really enjoyed chilling by the fire place and having a Wee dram. We held our wedding at this beautiful venue 11.11.17 and our day was truly amazing. I arrived the night before with my bridesmaids and was looked after from the moment we walked through the door and i got to show them around the venue & their rooms. All the staff were really friendly and helpful the breakfast was lovely and so was our wedding meal and service. Mary from house keeping is a lovely lady and went out her way to help me through out the preparations of me getting ready and always checking i was ok or needed anything. Lovely setting, we had the whole place to ourselves for Monday afternoon tea. Table was all set out for the two of us and a young man served us very good coffee and returned later with the 3 tier cake stand. There was so much on it, well worth £17.50 each. The sandwich fillings weren't really my taste, cheese was super strong, salmon was bland hence 4/5 but absolutely everything else was amazing. The scones were freshly baked and delicious, tarts were stunning, little raspberry mousse with shortbread was to die for and the brownie was the best I've had. Staff were very attentive and helpful. Background music was very diverse, not sure Nickelback suited the setting. Would like to return for an evening dinner as the menu looks good. More...

We held our wedding here as 24 hour exclusive use. The day could not have gone better. Despite a change in staff during planning, they got us just right and ran the day just how we wanted. The room layouts were great and they dressed the house just how we wanted. All the food was great. The staff could not have been more helpful making sure we had everything we and our guests needed and more. They worked incredibly hard and long hours making our day run smoothly . We have just had the most amazing wedding day ever!
From the minute we arrived we were warmly welcomed & waited on hand and foot, the staff were outstanding, they couldn't have done enough for us all (Bride, Groom & all our wedding guests).
We had a dog & 9 children all under the age of 9, the staff were very accommodating and understanding of restless children, who hadn't been allowed to play and burn off some energy before the ceremony. The help given by the staff made all the difference to ensure that we got the attention to detail that we'd planned - from the little name tags on glasses, to blowing up the helium wedding balloons. Nothing was a problem. We felt that the staff at Durn House cared as much about our wedding as we did. The preparation for the day, the very high standard of the canapes and buffet-style 3-course meal were 2nd to none. I could go on and on describing as to how absolutely fantastic our big day was, this can only be accredited to the professionalism and dedication of all the staff at Durn house. With a special mention for Mary, the Head Housekeeper, who made sure everything went smoothly and we got the day we'd hoped for.
The house itself has excellent facilities, in-keeping with the age and character of the house and grounds, the rooms, facilities, tableware and grounds were immaculate. All of our wedding guests that we spoke to, had an excellent day and gave the house and services nothing but praise. If we (the Bride & Groom), could have our day again, we wouldn't change a thing. We live near Portsoy and will definitely be spending a few nights here again.
A HUGE thank you to all the staff at Durn House, that made our day fantastic and memorable for all the right reasons.

Myself and another bridesmaid recently organised a hen weekend here for our bride-to-be friend. Despite a little confusion with our booking and deposit at the start, since then Nina and Kim at Durn House stayed in touch regularly to make sure they had the weekend planned to exactly what we wanted. We hired the whole house - all the girls were super impressed with their rooms. The food was delicious and there was plenty of it! All the staff there were extremely friendly, helpful, attentive and keen to do anything to accommodate us and make sure we had a super weekend. We really are grateful. X More...

I stayed last night in Durn house, enjoyed an exquisite evening meal and fresh breakfast.
The house is absolutely fabulous, and every room is decorated to the highest of standards, and every room is immaculate.
The House is warm and welcoming, the bedroom and bathroom are beautiful, the restaurant, bar and lounge area are all friendly and very classy.
The evening meal was divine - each course was made to perfection and each dish was an absolute delicacy. The food was fresh, delicious, and prepared to an extremely high standard. The waiting staff were sleek, professional, friendly, and made me feel so special and well looked after.
Breakfast was a treat, with superb quality food and a relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant.
Dinner, bed and breakfast at Durn House was one of the best guesthouse experiences I've ever had - truly, it couldn't have been more perfect. One night simply wasn't enough - I hope to be back! Thank you!
