My boyfriend and I were in town for a wedding, and having driven upwards of nine hours from OKC to Quincy, we wanted something tasty, within five minutes of our hotel, and not fast food. I found Dunnbelly through Yelp, and am so glad we did!We walked in and were seated pretty quickly at a table for two. The service was excellent and fast.My boyfriend ordered the flank steak, which came with veggies, and I had the shrimp and grits.His steak was perfectly cooked, and he commented that in his 30+ years of visiting family in Quincy, this was the best restaurant meal he's ever had there.I ordered the shrimp and grits, and all I can say is WOW. The Parm polenta was magnificent, and the basil pesto just was fantastic. The only complaint I have about the dish is that the bacon was just served in slices on the sides of the dish. I'd have rather it be chopped and stirred into the polenta, but it's a minor gripe, all in all.We ended our meal with their chocolate cake for dessert. We also ordered their chocolate cake for dessert, and while it wasn't necessarily some big fancy dessert, it was delicious, chocolatey, and we could have eaten another slice. The outside may deceive you at first but the inside ia homely and the view from the windows in the back and outside are fantastic. Dunnbelly is, by an insurmountably vast margin, the best restaurant in Quincy Illinois, Moreover, it is the best restaurant I've been to in the entire tristate area excluding Burlington Iowa, and St Louis Missouri. They have the best, hand selected cuts of beef and pork. They have fresh caught fish on offer on a weekly basis. Their cocktail bar is tasteful and obligingly generous! Go-to spot for real food made by a proper chef. Doesn’t hurt that it’s the most legit bar in Quincy either...edging on craft cocktails. Chef Brad brings the indulgence of big city cuisine to us right here in little ‘ole Quincy. Think choice proteins, creative sauces and reductions, lobster bisque from scratch, Thai dishes, Cuban dishes, Midwest pork chop, and an evolving menu. Thyme Square is great for sandwiches, and BoodaLu is like a premium Red Lobster where you don’t have to pay extra to be harassed by the well served owner. Chef Shawn at the Tap Room is a fantastic chef, offering Brad’s only competition, but you’ll have two choices on the menu. Dunnbelly has a great space and selection: a full restaurant, patio, somm curated wine list, (hands down better) bar, and did I mention Karen is an ever experimenting pastry chef Amazing desserts. I almost didn't go here and then I went 2 nights in a row. It didn't look like much from the outside but once inside it is charming and has an overlook over a small body of water. They are serious about food and cocktails. I met Chef Brad and enjoyed my visit with him. I had the shrimp and grits which brought me back the second night. I tried to go somewhere else but remembering the smooth creamy grits with pesto, Parmesan and the char grilled shrimp with extra thick sliced bacon made come back. The food was very very good! The bistro burger with the bacon onion jam was flavorful, juicy, and thick to boot! The wait was pretty timely as well. Our food was out to us maybe 10-15 minutes after we ordered it. The only negative is the selection is a bit limited and it's a bit pricey. Though I can hardly complain about price. The burger and fries were worth every penny. The staff was also extremely down to earth and polite and made you feel like friends instead of the robotic customer service you may get at other restaurants. Definitely check it out! More...
