Dr. Waldruff’s therapeutic skills as a counselor, particularly in teaching clients how to negotiate and successfully accomplish conflict resolution is unparalleled. Without mincing words, he is by far the most brilliant therapist I have encountered--anywhere, bar none, and I have had the honor to meet many illustrious practicing academics in the field at ivy league institutions and other fine academic settings. I challenge anyone to find a clinician with the knowledge base, skill, and techniques he possesses regarding personality disorders and teaching skills for those who must cope with people that have them, whether it be a supervisor, colleague, or family member. He provides intensive one on one, comprehensive practical advice tailored to each persons’ individual needs. In addition, he has an uncanny and acutely adroit ability in assessing and summarizing the presenting problem, person, or situation, and needs in order to quickly move to the problem solution focus stage. I currently drive a six-hour drive, just so I can be one of his patients because he is well beyond merely “competent.” He could easily become a household name if he chose to market himself to the public audience. The triangle area is incredibly fortunate to have him in their midst. He is one of the few therapists that will stand out as one of the great ones in the same league as Virginia Satir. His presence is one of compassion, empathy, and acceptance, no matter your background or beliefs. He truly creates a Rogerian environment of “unconditional positive regard” for the client. Another analyst named Winnicot coined the term, a “Holding Environment.” This is when there is a safe space to feel, to heal, to become reunited with that person deep under layers of the shell we create throughout our lifespan. The client is able to feel his/her feelings in that safe space in his calming steady presence, while using skilled techniques to reach insights and breakthroughs unaware to the client. The client leaves his office anew. His work is quite miraculous and it would behoove anyone, whether seeking therapy for deep seated trauma, mere feedback for less serious issues, or any myriad of issues, to pursue his clinical gift.
