I used Doug for everything from my logo and brand manual to magazine adverts and vehicle branding. Doug listened carefully on our initial chat and understood what I needed from the outset and came back with some amazing ideas which I was able to implement immediately. I would definitely recommend Doug to anyone who needs the type of services he is able to offer; Great work Doug - Thanks! More...

I sincerely want to thank you and your staff for the overall excellent job you did in developing our guesthouse brand and image. The finished logo reflects your talent and professionalism as a designer. You came highly recommended and I must say your attention to detail and your ability to conceptualize our vision by surpassing our expectation has been refreshing. On showing the logo to several colleagues they have all voiced how impressed they are with the logo. Once again thank you for an enjoyable experience and all the best to you and your staff for the future. More...

Q&As

A great website needs to be visually appealing, simple to navigate, engaging, and easy to maintain.

It really depends on the project - I think budget is important as costs can escalate very quickly where there is no set limit. That's not to say you have to spend a lot to get a great result. It's all about communication - get that right at the outset and the right solution can be identified and implemented quickly and easily so that you get the best bang for your buck every time. It's good also to identify likes and perhaps more importantly, dislikes as early as possible so that presented ideas don't waste valuable time and money.

Design in all its forms tends to be largely subjective. That's why it's important to have a meaningful project conversation between you, the client and me, the creative, at the outset of any project. In fact, you may have found it a challenge putting your brief into words when posting your job on this site which in its self is testimony to the importance of this process. Communication doesn't stop there however - there needs to be open dialogue from inception to completion. A good designer is a good listener which is why when you speak to me I will usually ask varied questions which I use to build up a mental picture of what is in your mind’s eye. I will then communicate this back to you verbally to make sure we're on the same page.
Once that step is done, I like to go to the drawing board, as it were, to mock up some concepts - usually 3 in completely different directions which we will then use as a visual basis for further development. Of course not everyone knows what they want until they see it, in which case we will discuss a plan which works best for you. Ultimately, my goal is always to exceed expectation both on quality and creativity. I have consistently achieved this using this creative process.
Try me. I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

A bit of a broad question I think - it really depends on the job. Let's have a chat and if there is anything I need to know I'll ask you - how's that?

Everything I do revolves around design. When I have mentored teams in the past, I have told them to eat, breath & sleep design - and I wasn't joking.
I love the creative process (as outlined above) - and I love an excellent result. I don't like compromise - only the best will do.

It's something I have always wanted to do but just never got around to. Recently, though I decided that it was time to move on: to start my own practice. And this is it. It’s a practice which enables me to use my skills to the full and give every client the level of personal attention that elevates a service from merely excellent to absolutely unbeatable.

One good reason is that I have 13 years of working in a quality and design-led manufacturing environment behind me, so I have the experience and expertise to help you achieve your goals.
You’ll find that, whatever you need, from corporate identity and collateral design, to product and architectural visualisation, I know how to combine freshness with creativity to deliver genuinely powerful and effective – yet immensely practical - solutions.
