So, Dotty Dog, where did it begin?
I’m not sure where, all I know is the love I have for dogs and animals is unconditional. I remember wanting to work with animals from being a little girl, trying to rescue the baby birds that fell from my grandad’s roof when they grazed their knees, they never survived, but I tried anyway.
Our first family dog, Prince, was an enormous Rough Collie and I remember being dragged across Charlton Brook face down when he chased another dog but I would not let go of that lead, no way. From that moment on I knew I wouldn’t ever have a life without a dog.
He lived for 12 and a half years before he passed away and to say we were heartbroken was an understatement. Our next fur-baby was one of the first Labradoodles, not the fancy ones there are now, she was a mistake over the garden fence and a nervous wreck but Emma was beautiful and she lived to the ripe old age of 19.
When I left home that is where my love for Dalmatians began. Scooby, born a millennium baby and as daft as a brush was my very first puppy to call my own, and boy was he trouble, but adorable. He caused havoc wherever he went and was known as the pasty stealer in Cornwall! When he was 2 yrs. old I decided he needed a mate and we rescued an 11 month old female dalmatian, she was elegant and beautiful. They were the dalmatian equivalent of Bonnie and Clyde when they were together but they were inseparable until Scooby passed away at the age of 14.
Mayzee was a snooty little lady, and although she seemed to be okay without her partner in crime; Reggie, an 18 month old dalmatian needed a home and guess who couldn’t resist. He was different, the lesser spotted Dalmatian, but he was a gentleman and he partnered Mayzee until she passed away at 12 and a half after suffering with a short illness of Leukemia.
So, then there was Reggie, mild mannered Sir Reginald all by himself, but that wouldn’t be for long. My daughter’s 7th birthday was coming up and she wanted a puppy! So, who should come into my life but Daisy? She was the most beautiful puppy and also had something very special about her, she was deaf. This was something I knew nothing about but after doing my research and realising that actually deafness in a dog was not actually not that much different to having a fully hearing dog, I decided to take a chance on her and embrace the situation. She was amazingly alert, intelligent, and quick to learn (if she was looking at me). Admittedly, I had to do things slightly differently and adapt training to her but she was a joy to work with. Daisy is a very nervous girl, she is reactive with other dogs and people she is not familiar with but that’s okay, I know her, and she knows me. It can be difficult in certain public situations but as long as you keep your wits about you and have eyes in the back of your head then its fine.
I guess Daisy was my inspiration for Dotty Dog, after a massive change in my personal life I knew it was time to put my passion into practice. To get out of the rat race of working in offices all of my life and get myself into the outside world dedicating my life to what I know best, my furry canine friends.
My ethos is simple, I want to provide a service that fits around you and your family and ensure your pet is happy and well looked after while you go to work/enjoy social events or simply don’t have the time. Today’s world is fast and hectic and unfortunately we have to work harder to look after ourselves and our families. Having a dog walker you can trust takes away the stress from you. So many now think being a dog walker is just picking up a dog and taking it for a walk but you need to know so much more. I have recently attended a course on Canine Body Language and I am also sitting a Diploma on Dog Walking and Pet Sitting. I am a member of NarpsUK which is the Professional Association for Pet Sitters & Dog Walkers. This association brings professionalism and credibility to any dog walking or pet sitting business and also gives customers peace of mind knowing that I have access to all up to date, relevant information needed that will help my business.
I can’t wait to get started and meet you and your beloved pet. I will always come out and meet you prior to walking/sitting your pet. I feel it is important to go through the Dotty Dog questionnaire and find out any special requirements/behaviour problems before our walking relationship begins.
If you want me to let your dog off the lead for a run I am happy to do so but it is important that your dog has a good recall and any behavioural problems you know of, I am made aware of at consultation stage.
