I lived in central Florida for 30 years, and I crave Cuban food always. Not something you find in Colorado. So when I was passing through WPB recently for work, I was on the lookout for just that. Don Ramon is a lovely spot, with attentive staff and a menu full of classic Cuban cuisine. I ordered the Lechon with black beans and yellow rice, with a stuffed potato starter. Absolutely the best Cuban food I have likely ever had in my long lifetime. The pork was smoky and juicy with plenty of crunchy bits. We first visited Don Ramon's over 20 years ago. We enjoyed it then, and we enjoyed it this time, too. The ropa vieja reminded me of the first time I had it, from the kitchen of one of my Cuban-born Spanish professors. The fried plantains were as sweet as any I've ever had; as I cook these myself, I know that there's an art to selecting fruit that has enough sugar to caramelize without burning, and I can't imagine doing it on this scale. The only problem was that they brought out the wrong dish for my wife, and on a slow night (the night after Thanksgiving), and it took a while to get the waitress to rectify the matter.I don't know enough about Cuban cocina to vouch for Don Ramon's authenticity, but the amount of Spanish I heard drifting around suggests this is the Real Deal. I had a very pleasant experience. The food was delicious and the staff was so incredibly friendly. From being greeted by lovely people at the door to having such a pleasant waiter, I couldn't ask for more. I order the Don Ramon steak and it did not disappoint. The minute you walk in the door, the wonderful aroma greets you. The decor is simply fitting and the dishes are an excellent size for finishing if you're really hungry or to take home for later.

Thoroughly enjoyed my meal here.   Everything about it was great.... waiter was the nicest, most polite guy and very helpful with recommendations.   Super attentive service.  Couldn't have asked for better.  Ordered the ceviche with shrimp and fish which was spectacular.   Best flavor and nice chunks of fish/shrimp.  The surprise of the evening was I went in wanting a pulled pork type dish and the waiter steered me toward his recommendation of the "Filete de cerdo".  This was a home run!!  I ate everything.   The flavor from this meat was perfect.   Just the right tenderness with a hint of salt and seriously melted in your mouth.   I would have come back the next night and ate the identical meal if possible.   You won't be disappointed! Don Ramon is an excellent restaurant and an example of how Hispanic food should be served! This is now my second visit to Don Ramon and I have yet to find an entree or appetizer that I haven't liked (and I've tried multiple things from sharing with my wife and visiting family). The food is fresh, delicious, and reminds me of home cooked Spanish meals at home. The staff are very courteous and are always looking to take care of your needs. A+ and a must visit in my book.
