Nigel exemplifies all you would want your dog walker/sitter to be! He is incredibly kind with animals and humans alike and meticulously follows all instructions. I think someone mentioned dog whisperer on another review and I must agree. We have 2 rescue dogs, one who is particularly anxious. We gave him a laundry list of what sets her off and Nigel has worked wonders with her- she's become so much better on her walks and we have Nigel to thank. He always sends updates along with the best picture of our pups that really are a delight. Â Nigel has also pet sat for us and it's well worth every penny. Not really sure where to start.. We found Nigel online over a year ago and it was a true blessing. He walked our two dogs, one loves people and the other is terrified. She was a baby at the time and needed a lot of extra encouragement. Nigel was beyond amazing with her. Helping us train her and calm her. He worked so hard and it really helped her and us. He was great with juggling both a large dog and a medium with two very different needs. He sent us a photo everyday and a great overview of there walks (He takes amazing pictures). He is very trust worthy and was great even when one of our pups hurt his foot. He sat with them inside and checked in daily until his foot got better. Nigel is the absolute greatest - he went above and beyond for us! I had to move from NYC to Hawaii without my cats, because the quarantine process for getting kitties to Hawaii takes months. Our two cats have been through a few cat sitters over the years and we have just never been quite satisfied with the experiences. They weren't bad, just not great. But Nigel is it. Our search is over. He is fully bonded, insured and certified in pet CPR and first aid. Not only is he incredibly professional and thorough with the meet and greet process, he followed our odd pet care particulars faithfully. We were grateful to return home after the holidays to two confident, well-fed, happy and calm cats. His gentleness and patience are clearly evident in the picture and video updates he sent us after each visit. He petted and played with them, giving each one quality contact time. Our cat is very much more of a dog than a cat in that whenever we leave for a long vacation he is very depressed for 1-2 days after we return. We used to have a good friend feed him 1x a day while we were gone but she left to grad school and we had to start looking for someone else. I found Nigel and am soooo happy that I did. We just came back from our second trip where Nigel came over to our place and fed our cat 2x a day. Well, it's been 10 hrs since we've been back and our cat is super happy and well adjusted. I also really appreciate the text messages with pics and videos as it lets us enjoy our time away knowing that our Pig is in good hands. Thanks sooo much Nigel!!! Nigel is amazing! He is the best cat sitter I've had in New York City. I was desperate to find a sitter last minute (after going through a terrible experience with another sitting company) and he went above and beyond to fit it in his schedule to do a meet and greet with me and my two kitties. He asked all the best questions and really tried to let my cats get to know him. I went on a 7 day vacation and I received the best updates, pictures, videos, & even boomerangs.It made me feel comfortable knowing my fur babies were in good hands. Nigel is amazing! He is very professional, reliable, and the best with dealing with our 50 lb. German Shepard/Boarder Collie Mix. Our puppy is very hyper and gets excited easily and Nigel is amazing with him. Since Nigel has been walking our dog we have seen major improvements with his mood and it has helped relieve his anxiety who is a rescue. Nigel takes great care of our dog, provides him with a rain coat if needed, fresh water, and treats, as well as making sure that on hot walks he has water for him as well. Our lives are so much better with Nigel walking Dewd and that we do not have to worry about him while we are at work. Nigel also lets us know when he is picking him up as well as provides us with photos from their walks and an update on how it went. I cannot recommend Nigel and his services enough. When searching on Yelp for a new pet sitter for my 2 cats in Ridgewood Queens, I was intrigued by the innumerable 5 star reviews for Nigel. Â After 2 rounds of service, I can undoubtedly say the glowing reviews are well-deserved. From his timely response to my initial inquiry to the moment he came by for a Meet and Greet, I was immediately impressed by his clipboard of thorough and relevant questions and his attention to detail. Same goes for the reports and photos he sends upon each visit. Â He also didn't balk or bat an eye at what I consider a somewhat elaborate feeding routine for my cats and he handled it beautifully. Â In addition to being communicative and reliable, he established a great rapport with my cats rather quickly. Â Upon his first visit photos (gifs!), my one albeit friendly cat was seen purring and laying on his back on Nigel's lap. Nigel is the first professional pet sitter I have ever had, and I'm won over. I have three cats. Â I believe that I have used Nigel 5 or 6 times since December 2017. Prior to the first pet sitting, Nigel came over and completed a thorough intake with me and my cats. When he went to "meet" the cats, he gently put out his hand and let each of them take some sniffs in their own time. Â He didn't force it. He's let them build trust.Nigel sends detailed updates and WONDERFUL photos after each visits. Â The photos are gorgeous. Â Like, pet-portrait level. Â I love them. When I get home, the house is tidy, mail brought in. Â No dishes mounded in the sink. Â Box scooped. Â Nigel even cleans up after the cats when he gives treats or catnip. Â The biggest thing, though, is how calm the cats seem when I get home. I've had them a long time and I know them well. Â They are not desperate to see me. Nigel is amazing!We have a 50 lb. German Shepard, Border Collie mix that can be a little bit of handful and gets overexcited very easily, and Nigel is amazing with him. Our experience started off with Nigel coming over to meet Dewd and conduct a quick but thorough interview to make sure he knew everything about Dewd. the level of professionalism put us at ease right away and we knew we could trust our pup with him 100%.Since Nigel has been walking Dewd he has calmed down a lot and is less anxious, has stopped chewing on the furniture, and is an overall much happier dog, and is so much better all around.Nigel has even brought Dewd some home made treats that he makes himself, tough Dewd how to catch a treat, and has provided the cutest yellow rain coat. Nigel makes sure he is dried off and paws are clean when bringing him back, and provides him with fresh water and his afternoon treat/snack. What do you love most about your job?
What's not to love? I spend my days giving cats and dogs the attention and love they deserve. Their owners get peace of mind while they are away and the benefit of coming home to a happy animal ready to curl up by their side. It is a win-win all the way around.
What inspired you to start your own business?
While managing an independent pet food and supply store in Williamsburg I discovered the breadth of the pet industry. On a daily basis I had the opportunity to play with dogs and be a resource for pet owners regarding everything from nutrition to scratching posts. I saw how a local business could become a valued part of a community, and I sought a way to be of even greater service to pets and their owners. I wanted to get out from behind a register and provide hands on care for cats and dogs. I have spent nearly three years dreaming up a small business to allow me to do that. Starting my own business has given me the freedom to harness my passion for animals while fulfilling my desire to create and forge my own path.
Why should our clients choose you?
Devotion. I love what I do and I'm committed to developing ongoing connections with owners and their pets. Even if I don't visit frequently, I want pets to feel as though they are with an old friend when they are in my care.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
I have implemented various COVID-19 safety procedures. I've outlined these on my website's FAQ page and I also send a COVID safety email to any new client during my on-boarding process.
