I went into the lesson with barely any knowledge about DJing. All knew about was two turntables (Or CD Players) and a mixer in the middle. With Ben Seagren helping me out i learned what everything was used for along with beat matching and even threw an analog mixer in there to play with. This really helped me understand what can heppen when playing live and even when you're just messing around. I have to give DJ4Life 5 stars because i don't think that there is anything they can do better... Ben almost had to pry me from the tables and the time flew by so fast! Great time, really. I hope to go onto the next phases soon. More...

If you're at all into the club or DJ scenes, and you've dreamed about ever being behind the decks rather than in front of them, this is the place for that dream to come true! Ben Seagren is an incredible resource of experience, technical knowledge, and easygoing helpfulness. He encourages you to just play, let your instincts guide you, and really tries to get you to listen carefully to your own sound. He offers helpful suggestions, guides, and always watches to make sure you're on the right track, but lets you work at your own pace so you get the practice you need. This is an incredible experience for anyone looking to start a new hobby. More...

I had a great experience during the first module. The first class with Björn, who was was very good at explaining the basics, he knows what he is talking about and I think it was great to have someone with so much experience as a DJ and Producer, guiding me through the first steps. Second and third class with Ben where more deep into the technic, which was great as well. Again really cool to have Ben who is also a great DJ with more than 10 years of experience in the field, coaching me as I was mixing my songs. Overall, these guys are as cool as it gets and they are super helpful. I wish I would have been more proactive! Cause if you put the time into it, practice and prepare for class, you can really make it worth your while. I'm already saving the money for module 2. A More...

Let's see, I went into lessons without ever touching cdj's. I'm a musician, but I've always been fascinated to try out dj'ing so I searched for lessons and this came up. I can say that this experience was definitely worth that $400 I paid for. Sasha is a wonderful teacher who's patient, intelligent, and really just a great person to be around. you do certain exercise to help build skill. ""You learn fast here"" as Sasha says because by the end of the 2nd week I amazed how quickly I picked up the skills. If you have your lesson with Sasha you will get to record your first mix with him, that's what I did. I'm really happy that I decided to take lessons. If you're interested but unsure, don't be unsure anymore cause this is totally worth it! More...

I joined DJ4Life after deciding I wanted to DJ for a living, or at least spread my love of music through DJing and touching many people. Sasha was a great help to me to get started and although I already knew alot of the stuff he showed me, he also showed me a thing or two that could have taken alot more time and energy to figure out on my own. Sasha also helped me out as a great contact to have and I can count on him to support me with any questions, or contacts I need now that I am developing my career. I also appreciated gettng feedback from someone with years of DJing experience. I am new to the city, and new to DJing, so it saved me a lot of time and money to get first hand experienced feedback and support rather than scrambling around. About the price, well sure it is pricey, but not when compared with many other professional services. If you can afford it want a head start in terms of learning, support and feedback, then DJ4life is for you. Apart from all this, Sasha is just plain cool :) Laid back and friendly, while also being professional and supportive. Thanks Sasha, and I hope to play in front of people soon!! More...

I have a lot of great things to say about DJ4Life - for starters, right after I signed up online, Sasha was emailing me to get things started. Everyone I dealt with, including the staff at SupperClub is incredibly nice and helpful. I had lessons with Michael who is very patient and very knowledgeable. He has a great teaching style - he actually teaches you something (this isn't just fluff) but he also lets you play with it and make mistakes. The key with Michael is that he teaches you the theory behind the music, not just how to play records. I have also taken beginner DJ lessons at DubSpot in NY and I felt this was better. I saw another review about how you don't need lessons to DJ. Maybe not. But if you don't know anyone who DJs and you want to try it, you definitely need someone to point you in the right direction. The equipment choices alone are overwhelming, so it's best to have an expert help you navigate. Also, without lessons, I would have done some serious damage to my pricey equipment - because I'd have no idea what I was doing. The only tiny, tiny nit I will mention is that there should be better coordination before the first lesson. Yes, they have all the equipment, but they should find out if you're planning to DJ on vinyl, digital, CD, etc. and then ensure the right equipment is available for your lesson. We had a little confusion about this at my first lesson - of course, Michael was fantastic about sorting it out. More...

I disagree with previous review; YOU DO NEED LESSONS to learn how to DJ! And you do need an opportunity to play live as part of program and not just in small venues, but you will have exposure to play in supperclub, vessel, temple, and even at Ruby Skye (top 25 clubs in the world) where DJ4LIFE hosts next event on Feb 4th, 2010. Now that is amazing and is the ultimate reason why I signed up. It's fast and structured trainning, class starts as soon as you sign up, and it occurs in loft studio or supperclub or cellar sf. I don't have time to look for free instructors, or to teach myself while not even knowing what equipment to purchase, etc that's why DJ4Life is perfect for me.. Yes, it does cost money, min is $399 but it saves me time, so I am okay with paying while I know exactly what I will get and not to mention that Sasha and DJ4LIFE have been featured in USA TODAY and TIME Magazine as one of the most creative programs in USA, (check the website press/media section ), so in short DJ4LIFE has made me happy and satisfied, even though I do understand it is not for everyone and if you have time, and not much money to invest sure look elsewhere, or teach yourself (you will still need to buy equipment) but from my experience, DJ4LIFE is worth every penney, just show up at some of the upcoming events and talk to students that took a course.... That's your best source of information ! More...

Talk about Exhilarating Experiences! Some people say Jumping Out of an Airplane is the ultimate rush, others say Running with Bulls is, Extreme River Rafting, Hang Gliding, but I say becoming a DJ thru Dj4life and spinning the opening set @ SupperClub in San Francisco on NYE in front of 350 people and having the power of a full nightclub sound system behind me is a feeling/excitement like none other! I was thoroughly pleased with my instruction at DJ4Life Academy. Sasha Tosic and his teachers conduct 1:1 classes in a professional manner that combine state-of-the-art DJ techniques, personalized coaching, a hands-on approach, and a ton of fun. When I entered the class in November ’08, I had never even touched a mixer and I barely knew what a CDJ was. All I knew was that I loved music and wanted to share it at a new level. Sasha’s thorough approach and attention to detail enabled me to learn the basics right away and I was performing as a DJ after only 3 classes! 2 months later I was playing parties, getting hired for gigs, and networking with other DJs, thanks to DJ4Life. I highly recommend this academy for new DJs that want to learn the basics or seasoned professionals that want to fine-tune their style. Thanks to Sasha and the staff at DJ4Life. You changed and enriched me, 4 life. DJ Rubia. More...

When I initially moved to San Francisco I realized within a short few months I wanted to take my hobbyist DJ skills to another level. DJ4Life Academy was the first site that came up in my search; I called Sasha (Tall) and setup my first session for Level II. First off, the cost of the class is very reasonable considering both what you learn in such a short amount of time and that you are not locked into a whole semester for some sort of certification costing well over a thousand. One of the unique experiences that DJ4Life offers you is the ability to play live. Personally, my first live performance with DJ4Life was an awesome experience that has only since catapulted my passion for Djing and I have had several performances since. Currently, I am working on some international venues for next year and planning to go for broke!! Lastly, through DJ4Life, Sasha has created an entire community of really solid people that motivate and inspire each other to get better and better. I have already met several friends that I actually mix with monthly. In addition, Sasha is an experienced business man that can also help you with some solid concepts on how to market yourself and engage setting up venues at a local or international level. In a quick summary, DJ4Life offers the full spectrum of becoming a solid DJ to promoting yourself and playing in venues you never thought possible. I highly recommend!! More...

Let me first preface with the reason why I initially went to the DJ4Life academy - to take my undying passion for house music outside the confines of my apartment and into into the world(well, San Francisco first) and ride the adventure as long as physically possible. Considering I had no prior experience playing live(just small groups of friends I would fully solicit to play for), I really needed someone who could mentor me and help educate me with all the technical intricacies based on their experience... and Sasha, energizing a crowd of over 40,000 people, has the experience. As a teacher, Sasha is very patient and easy going but also very observant an quick to explain/correct your mistakes as they occur leaving you feeling upbeat about your progress after each session. Sasha is also very passionate; not just about the music but growth of the community; this is another huge reason that adds to the experience - he is a forward-thinking entrepreneur then can prep you not only in your DJ skills but also the business aspects. I've been through levels II and III; playing live in front of a group of people is like jumping out of an airplane... you can't fully understand until you experience it yourself.. I'm completely hooked :) I would definitely would recommend DJ4Life for anyone interested in pursuing DJ'ing for the love of music or taking it to the next level. Thanks DJ4Life & Sasha! More...

Not all DJ's schools are create equal. DJ4life is in a league of their own. I was trying to teach my girlfriend how to DJ and for those of you who have been in a relationship know how impossible it is to teach your partner almost anything. Long story short, instead of killing each other over DJ'ing we signed up for a class with Sasha and by the end of the first 2 hours my girlfriend was rockin up her beats. In 2 months she has even played at a couple of local clubs and private events. I even learned something (I've been DJ'ing for 3 years) to make my DJ'ing improve. If you want a school that will not only teach you how to DJ but will also provide you the platform of getting exposure whether it's internet broadcasting/podcasting, local club DJ'ing or on the international circuit then this is it. Sasha's industry knowledge and connections are priceless. Last note, you don't need to buy equipment to get started! I liked the ""try before you buy"" attitude Sasha has about buying equipment. You'll be sure you're getting objective advice about equipement since he doesn't sell them. They also have various practical equipment setup recommendations for price ranges at or More...

It's a great program! If you want to be a DJ, this is definitely a shortcut. However, if you just want to have a peek and get to know what DJ is about but do not necessarily want to dive deep into the scene, there are plenty of options you can try and they are fun! - I would highly recommend ""Moonlight DJing for 2"" - first date and still raw? it would be a group conversation here to ease your embarrassment, yet strawberries and champaign definitely help starting your romantic journey. after a DJ lesson it is so easy to get your date to a club and have a hot dance! who knows what gonna happen... Some people might thought this class is expensive, but come on, you probably pay more to learn Spanish or have a massage done with the same money for one hour - that's why I vote the price range to be moderate. However, if you really want to save, grab a friend to take the class with you for ""DJ4Life friends"" class, so you can cut down your price to half but have a cool study buddy. I guess the most fun part comes to the performance level. Think about if you can invite all your friends to the dance floor to make your own party, and YOU are the superstar DJ, wouldn't be cool? Plus, yes, you got to meet a lot more other friends who share same interest in music, because DJ4Life is not only a lesson, but also a group as friends and family that everyone knows each other and enjoys socializing and sharing with each other. It's a little happy bubble here, and it's growing. More...

I decided to select DJ4Life to pursue my DJ learning experience immediately upon meeting international DJ and Producer Sasha Tosic. I found him to be extremely professional, passionate about the art of spinning music, friendly, talented, and a great instructor. During my sessions with him, he was very attentive and showed me various skills of spinning music including beat matching, song selections, scratching, and sound editing. He showed me how to use the equipment to match my style of music to create my own sound. He provided both a very positive and critical learning experience. The classes with Sasha were offered in a loft environment featuring a custom DJ booth, state of the art Pioneer equipment, excellent sound, and a very comfortable and fun setting. I also took lessons with the Music Director of Supperclub Michael Anthony. These sessions provided opportunities to spin on equipment used at Supperclub and allowed me to meet yet another influential and successful person in the industry. Michael was full of energy, talented, very complimentary of my learning abilities, provided constructive feedback, and is great person to know. Being able to learn from two different instructors was very beneficial. After 4 lessons, I was able to perform at the internationally renowned venue Supperclub. This experience provided priceless time to spin in front of a live audience. It was awesome! I would highly recommend DJ4Life to anyone that is interested in becoming a DJ as a profession or hobby. Gaining the experience of actually spinning at a club will certainly facilitate my ability to spin at other venues. Sasha and Michael said they prefer to stay in touch with their students to ensure that their experience with DJ4Life provides the opportunities to pursue our goals of becoming amazing DJs?4 LIFE! I also plan on taking the Music Production class that is offered so I can learn how to mix my own music. Go for it! More...
