What do you love most about your job?
Supporting families in finding an agreement that everyone can live with. Families often come to mediation following a communication breakdown and it is through mediation that a new dialogue is established enabling the family to go forward. This is job satisfaction.
What inspired you to start your own business?
We wanted to create a firm and a mediation team that was inclusive, as we believe mediation is a process suitable for all families, and can extend to as wide a circle as necessary, including grandparents, step-parents and young people. We are understanding, sympathetic and experienced. We are also proud to be LGBTQ+ friendly. Our belief is that a family is a family – no matter who the members are.
Why should our clients choose you?
We really understand the need to be responsive and that is why we offer initial consultations (MIAMs) via telephone, Skype, FaceTime or WhatsApp. There is also the option for face to face sessions at our offices across the UK. Our aim, as an organisation, is to provide a service which supports families through times of change in a safe and positive environment.
Online MIAM (Mediation Information & Assessment Meeting)
An online MIAM is the first meeting that you will have with a mediator. It is required if you are wanting to go to court. It can be done using Skype, or FaceTime, which is easy to do even if you are not a techy person! In this first meeting, you will have the opportunity to find out from a fully qualified family mediator how mediation works and the benefits of mediation. Many of your questions can be answered – Is going to court really the best way to address the implications of your relationship breakdown? Is mediation an effective alternative? these are things that will be discussed in your online MIAM session.
Face to Face MIAM (Mediation Information & Assessment Meeting)
A MIAM is the first meeting with a mediator and is an acronym for Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting. In this meeting, you will have the opportunity to find out from a qualified family mediator how mediation works and the benefits of it. Is going to court really the best way to address the concerns following your relationship breakdown? Is mediation an effective alternative? In the MIAM, these are things that will be discussed.
Family Mediation
If mediation is suitable, following the MIAM, a joint or shuttle meeting will be organised where family members will have the opportunity to talk about their concerns, look at options and agree on a way forward. It may take a number of sessions to find an agreement for everyone.
Family mediation can:
• Reduce conflict
• Help adults focus on the needs of the child
• Improve family life
• Avoid long painful and expensive legal battles
Mediators do not take sides, make judgments or give advice or guidance. The mediator’s role is to support people in making their own decision about their future. Family mediation supports families through change, generally as a result of separation, divorce, or family restructuring.
