We recently switched our family pets to the care of Dr. Reid Den Herder and Dr. Ross Dirks. First, over the Fourth of July, our young kitten was seriously injured, and Dr. Reid was the only one in the area that could see us on emergency. He took amazing, kind care of Leo late at night. Then, a few months later, after seeing our regular vet repeatedly, we took our sweet young lab, Dexter, to Dickinson County. It was found he had a severely advanced case of blastomycosis, a deadly systemic fungal infection. The doctors and staff gave Dexter everything they had to save him, from Dr. Dirks meeting us late at night to give him oxygen therapy the first time he went into respiratory distress to Dr. Den Herder calling in favors for specialized equipment, the knowledge of veterinary specialists, and even a human eye surgeon. The doctors (and even Dr. Reid's wife!) helped us find coupons to afford the many medications we needed, worked within what we could afford, and the staff always managed to get Dexter seen, even on their busiest days. Sadly, after 26 days of fighting, our sweet pup succumbed to the ravages of blasto. The clinic sent us a beautiful bouquet of flowers, and helped us to cremate our boy. They cried with us, smiled with us, and fought with us to save our boy; if you want more than a vet, but a warrior to fight for your pets, please look no further than Dickinson County Animal Clinic. Two years ago I was visiting the area hunting and on a Sunday I needed a Veterinarian’s opinion if my dog, Lou, needed to be seen as an emergency or not. After a brief history over the phone he decided that Lou did need to be seen. I met him at the clinic and he did everything to help Lou and to calm me down. I started out at another vet in the area, but last year when I made the difficult decision to put my old dog down, my vet couldn't get me in until after the weekend. I called Dickinson County, and they were able to schedule me the next day. Dr. Den Herder was very compassionate, and the whole staff was very kind. My dog was having puppies 2 came just fine . There was still 3 more . I got scared it was over 2 an a half hours . so I took her in . They was great . Was visiting family when my dog got REALLY sick. Was told to call them. It was on a Friday around 5pm. They stayed late to help my dog. But she had to stay over night. I was a nervous reck.
