Ian was the only person to respond to my request. Polite helpful and actually interested in all the ideas we had. We have now increased the scope of our project to more than double the original idea as he is so helpful.

How can someone tell if their Garage is suitable for conversion?
Most garages are suitable to be converted, however additional material changes will always mean planning permission is required. Internal walls and floors can be insulated as well as the roof depending on its make up.
Run us through the different stages of the Garage conversion process - what's involved?
Planning permission for the conversion is required, which mean drawing up existing and proposed scheme to be submitted to the local authority. Technical drawings may be required once planning permission is granted but generally working with a good builder you may not need them. A Building control officer is required to inspect and sign off the works prior to occupation.
How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
Most roofs are suitable for conversion however, it really depends on the budget available. Most roof trusses could not be altered, which means the entire roof would need to stripped back and the trusses replaced with correct attic trusses. Sometimes the existing roof trusses can be adapted with additional steel installed but only through investigation by a profession you would be able to know which route your need to take.
Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
Scheme design and submission to the local authority for planning approval, technical drawings from both a structural engineer and architect/designer are key for the builder to work from and once construction begins the works are required to be signed off by a building control officer.
