Hello there! Nice to meet you.
I’m Marie, a versatile and award-winning graphic designer with over 20 years’ experience. In Summer this year I decided to take the plunge and set up my own business. And I've never looked back! I've learned a lot and helped several start-ups, charities and medium-sized companies visualise and develop their brands.

Marie came in last week to give some pro bono indesign and photoshop training to the team at Smart Works. She was absolutely fantastic, explained everything clearly and succinctly. She has an excellent eye and gave us some tips on how to better our materials. Incredible lady, also great sense of humour. More...

Marie has been great to work with. She has designed a logo and business cards for me. I think I've been pretty picky but Marie has been really patient and come up with lots of options, tweaking things with different alternatives at each stage. She understood my brief and offered a variety of ideas, from bang on the brief to expanding concepts much further. I'm so pleased with the final design and the whole process has been really smooth. Thank you! More...

What makes a great website?
First and foremost: Great user experience followed by great user interface design. It doesn't matter how pretty your website is, if your users can't find what they're after, they will be off in a flash. Of course it depends on what your product is – if you run an e-commence enterprise or just need a web presence to send potential clients to. The best websites start off with questions: What are your business/website objectives? What's most important to your company? etc. Thorough research is necessary to achieve great user experience. Then build a website with clean information architecture and interface design, and you're on a winning streak. Once the website is built, maintenance and further research will keep it up-to-date.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
1. Can we meet up in person or chat on Skype/phone?
2. Tell me all about your company and your objectives.
3. Do you already have a logo/branding? Could you please show me? (If we go ahead, can you send me the files?)
4. What can you tell me about the job in hand? What are the objectives, timeline, deadlines and do you have any ideas you would like to see implemented?
5. How would you like to work with me?
Describe your creative process.
Any project, may it be small or large, starts off with a thorough brief. I will ask many questions to get an idea of what you're after. Once I'm confident I understand your objectives and design needs, I will send you a written quote, stating the job details. If we agree to go ahead, we will work out a timeline and responsibilities for you and me, so we can hit your deadline. For bigger projects and website design, I will ask you go sign a contract. Then we're good to go and I will start to research the job at hand (valuable insights will always be share with you). Based on my findings, I will design and present the agreed amount of options to you and we will discuss. One option will be taken forward and refined. I believe in staying in contact and discussing the design direction, so the decision process is easier and everybody involved is happy with the outcome.
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
Project and company objectives, previous branding, project responsibilities (decision-makers, who does what and when), timelines and deadlines, an agreed quote and (for bigger projects and websites) contract, any client ideas and samples
What do you love most about your job?
Creating beautiful brands with people who are as interested in the outcome as myself.
What inspired you to start your own business?
After more than 20 years' working for companies, I felt I was ready to set up on my own. I wanted to learn new things and work with my own set of clients.
Why should our clients choose you?
Apart from my extensive design expertise, I'm a friendly and patient designer who's more interested in working with lovely people than making the big money.
