Derrington Building Studio

I can’t say enough good things about Tim, the team at Derrington Building Studios, and our experience working with them to build an addition onto our 1950s ranch home. We knew what we needed – a studio space with very specific dimensional requirements that could somehow fit on our small lot, within city code – but we had no idea what we wanted it to look like, or how to get there. Tim literally brought our dreams to life with a creative solution that not only worked within the challenging limits, but was more creative, beautiful, and interesting because of them. The addition is spectacular, both visually and practically, and has made this our forever home. On top of the design, Tim has a very clear process from beginning to end, which made us feel completely informed and organized – a huge plus since we had no idea how this would work. And he was deeply involved in the construction phase and caught several things along the way, saving us a ton of time, money, and headaches. He’s imaginative, meticulous, obsessive (in the best kind of way), and above all, a genuinely nice person who is a lot of fun to work with. I cannot recommend DBS enough! More...

We used DBS to design and manage construction of Crux Climbing Center. Tim and his team took a simple idea and helped us to produce a much more iconic facility. The process is never easy, but they were open books and were always available to answer questions or consider various options. Tim is an incredibly humble leader and is somehow always able to maintain a level of class that will work within your budget. He’ll present the latest and greatest architectural option, but is always ready with more economical ones. Somehow he’s able to find the right balance while not compromising on the overall taste or feel of a space, knowing how to keep the big picture in mind. Working with Derrington Building Studio was a pleasure because the people are just so darned polite and pleasant! And talented and fast, and in my case, very patient and accommodating. I hired Tim Derrington to design a small second house on my challenging, sloping property. I took long periods of time to mull over concepts, then decide, then revise, and then decide again before we finalized a design. Tim and his staff were always ready to take up where we had last left off, to help get me closer to what I finally decided I wanted. They were efficient; I was not. They always made me feel welcome in their casual office space to sit down with them at their computers to go over various design aspects as the process unfolded. I enjoyed this greatly because this is the one and only house I will ever build, and I wanted to be part of each step. We worked with Tim and his team in 2017 - 2018 on our dog food store on South Lamar called Barkin' Creek. The shell of a building that was handed to him versus the finished product was way above our expectations and we owe a good deal of our now existing style and taste level to Derrington Studio! We are now on our second store in Dallas and, of course, Tim is our guy once again! His easy demeanor and incredible skill set makes him one of the best we have ever dealt with! More...
