We would definitely recommend Doug and his team to anyone considering a landscaping project. We had a very overgrown and weedy 10,000 sq ft lot that needed a major revision.
Doug's team came in and transformed the space with flagstone, adobe, DG, plants, lighting, and a beautiful cobble paver driveway. We were so pleased with the quality of the work that we asked them to add a 130 ft fence to the plan. The project was completed within budget and on time.
Doug was very easy to work with. He immediately responded to our calls, texts, and emails. He was understanding and willing to work with us on changes we made along the way, tweaking the budget to accommodate us. His recommendations for the flagstone, rock, and pavers were spot on.
The entire crew, Ramon, Rigo, Jaime, and Oscar, were professional, respectful, and friendly. They were on site and ready to go by 7:00 a.m. each morning and worked tirelessly every day, even through a few days of crummy, rainy weather. Ramon, the foreman, is a highly skilled craftsman, who really cares about quality and promptly addressed any concerns we had. Under his direction, everything came together beautifully, and we couldn't be happier with the results!

Over the last 2 months, the team at Del Mar Landscapes transformed our yard from a complete disaster to a beautiful functional paradise.
We are extremely happy to have hired them. A detailed review follows but to summarize: they were very easy to work with during the bid/negotiation phase, followed through on all of their promises, and were very friendly, clean, timely and prideful in producing exceptional work. We highly recommend Del Mar Landscapes!
We first met Doug and Jim when they came out to walk through our property and compare it to the plans done by Ocotillo Design Group. They spent well over an hour walking the yard and asking pertinent questions, verifying measurements and confirming our thoughts. Our design encompassed various materials: pavers, trellis, sit walls with veneer, decomposed granite walkways, mow curb, plants, drip irrigation, lighting, and more. In each case Doug and Jim demonstrated their expertise and gave us a real sense of confidence. Before leaving they asked about our budget, timing and priorities, but there was never any salesmanship. About a week later, we met again and they presented us with one legal-sized page holding the complete quote. Jim explained each line item in great detail and pointed out a few places where the quote did not match the design plan. In each of these places he explained the reasoning, which was not only sound, but worked out in our favor. In addition to their expertise and professionalism, the pricing was extremely competitive.
Within two weeks of signing the simple contract and shaking hands, the demo crew was at the house making quick work of removing the old ugly cement patio. Our corner property is on a hill and there were many challenges in getting the equipment into the right locations, but in each case they figured out a way to get things done. After the demo was done, Ramon, Jaime and Rigo showed up. These three were friendly, approachable and very knowledgeable. Doug brought in others to help when necessary, but this was our everyday team. I’m pretty sure that Ramon can not only do landscaping(masonry/drainage/irrigation/etc) but he could probably build an entire house. When we discovered that a previous owner used PVC to plumb the main water line, he was able to fix it quickly. (We had just hired some plumbers to do our bathroom and Ramon’s work was comparable.)
We had a design in place when the job was started but there were times when the design needed to be changed. An example of this was that the sit walls were too close to the fence for the plants I had chosen. Ramon was very flexible and knew just how much to move them out. We did this and everything looks/fits perfectly. Another example of their flexibility was that our sit walls were curved and a decision had to be made to either do poured in place cement or precast caps. We had no idea which way to go but after their detailed explanation of both processes, we went with poured in place (their recommendation.) We were given plenty of time to make this decision too. No pressure. The sit wall benches came out fantastically. A couple of similar things came up and all were handled with clear communication and cooperation.
We hadn’t ever done anything of this scale before and one of my worries was an escalation of costs beyond the fixed price contract we had signed. Of course, there were a few unforeseen issues...the aforementioned plumbing, a problem with one of our retaining walls, and an issue with an existing step. But there was no gouging here at all; the extra charges to correct these issues were very fairly priced.
Over the past few weeks a number of neighbors and family have toured the new yard and they are highly complementary but jealous! We are still in awe ourselves and utterly amazed at the transformation of the yard. It is like we doubled the square footage of our house as now we can enjoy plenty of time on the outside It is so comfortable and inviting. Doug did a great job, quickly and professionally. Have used Doug twice for front yard drought tolerant yard and back yard finishing year later. Both pretty much on handshake with contract following. Honorable, trustworthy and does the job promised with passion. Able to work with Doug on small issues and request with only handshake and job will be at minimal cost or no cost if work does not require much time. I am updating my review based on recent events. Doug has a great team of guys working for him. Doug and his team quickly understood what we were looking to do and they got to work immediately. They showed up early every day and cleaned up at the end of each day. We replaced a short wall, built a new fence on top, put in new steps with lights, and installed a large patch of artificial turf. They did a great job installing all of it. After they completed the work, I realized we overlooked some minor details and there was some paint that dripped onto the new steps. Doug quickly responded to our concerns and sent over his guys to address the areas of concern. They were able to remove the paint on the new steps and did some additional touching up to the paint on the fence that was missed. They clean up after their work days. No problems. Ramon took charge and attended to all the details, provided ideas and made sure the work was done correctly the first time. They show up on time and work till the job is done. I tested them with a 60 foot retaining wall. Upon completion of the wall I was impressed so they got the job of install 600 sq.ft. of pavers as well. Del Mar Landscaping accomplished multiple, fairly complex projects on our front back and side yards to give us a total landscape renovation, and did a good job to complete each one and it all looks awesome. Doug was responsive when I called him and willing to do what was required to get a quality job done and on time. They did stamped, stained concrete; some syn-lawn including bocce court and checkerboard concrete/lawn patio; a block-stucco wall; planter/garden walls; drip irrigation system; low voltage lighting; and a few different wood & metal combination fences. Some of his employees are more experienced than others and unfortunately one of the workers was underqualified for some of the specific tasks given, so some of the tasks were not done to our standards and perhaps were a little beyond the expertise of the employee assigned. Doug was great to work with. My project was not an easy one with very limited access to the back. The goal was to install retaining walls to increase the usable space in the back, maybe even a pool. When we first met, I saw that daunting look in his face. But with an optimistic smile he made a few recommendations and we moved forward. Initially, I hired him to only do a portion of the property but after a few days, he came back with a vision of how he would do the job if he owned the property. I reluctantly agreed as my vision was a little different. His workers worked quickly (he estimated 9 days work; they were done in 6), they cleaned up their mess everyday, and were friendly and pleasant. As the work progressed, he added a few freebies such as installing steps, weed control and replacing a small wooden deck on the verge of collapse. No surprises or disappointments. I am extremely pleased with the quality of work, and the final result. Relying on his vision was the second best decision I made for this project. The best decision I made was hiring his company. At the beginning I thought his cost was a bit expensive but in the end, as the old saying goes, "You get what you pay for." It was money well spent with the results exceeding my expectations. My husband and I hired Del Mar Landscaping to completely renovate our front and backyard. We built a fire pit with seating, built-in BBQ island, installed turf, putting green, fence, retaining wall, walkway, landscaping, lighting, electrical, irrigation and new concrete throughout. It was a very large project that turned out amazing! From the time I met Doug, he was friendly, responsive, punctual and very easy to work with. He had a lot of wonderful ideas and continually worked with us to achieve exactly what we wanted. Doug and his team did an outstanding job on our front and backyard removal and installation of turf and patio pavers. They removed a huge amount of bushes, trees, and sod for the complete change of our yard. The project was a decent size and I was happy to find 3-5 of Doug's employees onsite daily. they did an incredible amount of work in a short period of time. The project was finished in about 8 days total. Doug's employees do a nice job of communicating the current situation and any barriers they are facing to complete the job. I even added a couple small areas on to my project and the team was shared their ideas to ensure they met my vision for the project. How ever I have to admit after talking to 9 other contractors some of which gave me prices that made me want to laugh, and some of which just seemed down right shady, Doug was a fresh change. I highly recommend Doug and his crew. I had my front yard remodeled with pavers, artificial turf, wall extensions with brick caps and a water fountain structure. Doug was always responsive from the beginning and had some nice inputs, which turned out better than I planned. The turf came out beautiful and Efrem did an excellent job. I wanted to recommend Doug and his crew at Del Mar Landscapes for your yard. Doug has a great deal of knowledge. Knowledge about design, color concrete, synthetic turf, electrical, plants and irrigation. Doug was extremely detailed with all aspects of my yard; hands on too. Doug also has a nice gift to spatial configurations. He took a unsightly yard and made all of the above elements flow together beautifully. Where I did have an area that was not his expertise (acid staining my floor to my house), Doug also helped me get two contractor friends in for a bid.
