Russ has been awesome for the 4-5 months he's been my online strength coach. He saw me struggling in the gym and came over one day and we started talking about lifting. I explained to him that I am mainly into boxing but that I needed to become stronger to really hold my own while sparring. The next week we began working together and it has been fantastic ever since. Russ made my form the most important aspect of my training initially and because of this, I am super confident in my ability to squat, bench, deadlift and overhead press without killing myself. He has me on a very simple, but very effective strength program which has helped increased all four of the main lifts. It is also important to explain that he was able to develop a strength training program that didn't interfere with the boxing training I had going on simultaneously. Most of the time, training a sport that has a serious cardiovascular and endurance component to it all while training for strength is problematic. However, in this case, it's worked out extremely well. On top of all of this, Russ is a great guy. No nonsense, no B.S. I like to train when I'm in the gym, not talk and socialize and when we happen to be at the gym together, he totally respects that. So many trainers take up you're training time talking about themselves and about what they are doing as if they are on a sitcom or doing a standup routine. Not here. He's honest, to the point, has a good sense of humor and most importantly, effective. More...

Russell is the most distinguished,  genuine, honorable, sincere, knowledgeable, thorough, dedicated and professional personal trainer that I ever have the pleasure of working with. I can honestly say that I only started working out the right way was when I started working out with Russell.                            He is truly a people person and his passion for his line of work is contagious.   I started my fitness  journey at  age 23 ( I am 29 now and thanks to Russell I have some muscle definition for the first time in my life).     My intention to start working out  for me was to overcome body image and weight issues, and my previous trainers were never able to fully deliver.  I had a blocky and boxy shape that I wasn't fully content with I always looked soft  instead of solid. That all changed when I met Russell. He educated me about my specific body type ( Mesomorph) . The typical  Mesomorph is someone who has a stocky build, the muscle size comes quicker than the average person, however the muscle shape and sculpting then follow but with extremely concentrated effort.         Russell came up with an overall action plan to address all of my deficiencies from all angles.  He has helped me also overcome mobility issues with my shoulders and my strength has increased exponentially. I am now able to do overhead presses and barbell squats something that I was not previously able to do ever.  He exceeded and continues to exceed my expectations. The best part is that Russell has  helped me lose over 25lbs while helping me gain 5 lbs. of lean muscle in the process.  Russell continues to inspire me and bring out the best in me.    He  is a gentleman and a very mindful, courteous, professional individual; also he has an exceptional sense of humor which helps tremendously especially with helping me skew my thinking more towards the positive.                                  I highly recommend everyone in the greater Los Angeles area who have ever struggled with weight and body image issues as well as the emotional ramifications behind these two components, and who are just about to throw in the towel to give Russell a try.  He definitely surprised me, by showing me that I capable of doing more than I have ever imagined. The bar is raised on a whole other level. No pun intended.    There is hope and there are amazing people out there who are willing to help and Russ is one of those amazing people who will be there for you. More...

Russ rocks! We worked together for about a year and a half before I moved, and I was in the best shape and felt great. He is super knowledgable and creates a custom workout for you to get the best results. He even created a plan so I could come into the gym by myself and feel confident and get a good workout in. He is tough, but nice and fun. Time flew by when working out with him, and I actually started to look forward to going to the gym! I highly recommend. More...

I have been training with Russ for over 12 years. I am not an athlete but rather a 64 year old woman who is stronger than I would ever think possible. Make no mistake, it’s work, but Russ makes each session interesting and fun. He is constantly reading and educating himself to not only be the best trainer he can be, but to bring something new to our workouts to get the best possible results. 6 years ago I broke my foot on vacation. I was on crutches and could not bear weight for 12 weeks, but Russ was able to create a workout program for me that not only kept me fit, but kept me sane. I enthusiastically recommend him to anyone who is serious about getting in shape. More...

Working out with Russ is so fantastic! I got started with no experience or education in working out, I felt so lucky that I could have him as my personal trainer at the beginning. He is very experienced and considerate, he knows exactly what I want my body to be, and he tailors exercises for me every session. I really appreciated that he corrects every single detail of my form and explains to me how each muscle works, so that I feel confident when I do these exercises on my own. Some of his exercises seem to be "fancy" to me at the beginning, which I really like to do, because most of them involves the whole body, they are complex but greatly improve my whole body strength. I was so weak and skinny that I couldn't even lift my carryon up to the shelf of the airplane cabin, but after learning and practicing his exercises, I can easily do it after three months! I'm so happy that he helps me become stronger and healthier than before. He also has a great character. He's responsible,  keeping his eyes on me all the time during  the session (even when I'm not working out with him!), making sure I'm working out safely. Not to mention he's also a funny guy! He's always telling  jokes to make my heavy workout lighthearted. Highly recommend Russ! He is an amazing personal trainer who can help you both physically and mentally! More...

I cannot recommend Russ more! I have been working out with him for close to 18 months now and I am stronger and toned in parts I never knew I could tone! ! I very much appreciate that he always works within my range, especially in the beginning as I was coming out of health issues. Workouts are great workouts with him: he pushes you enough to progress but not so much that you hurt yourself. I love his knowledge of biomechanics and focus on posture. I worked with a trainer before him, who I really liked, but had to find someone geographically closer. I have to say that I am in better shape now, and I was in good shape before! Great trainer!!! :-) More...

I'm just going to lay it all down on the table and just say that Russ is the best. And that you probably won't get any better. As a small 4'11 petite, female actress, I was honestly a little hesitant to work with a male trainer. I have only worked with female trainers, and I wasn't sure if Russ knew what to do with my body type. He knew EXACTLY what to do. I have never been more toned in my life. Russ is such a smart, funny, and caring guy. He knows how to pay attention and really, really listen to your wants and needs. He knows how to get you to where you need to be by pushing you, but not pushing you past your limits. As a smart trainer, he can tell what are and what aren't your limits. I love having a trainer that will push me when he knows and sees that I have more potential in me. He will never, ever let you slack off. After only working with Russ for 2-3 months...I have never been stronger. And no, not stronger in the way where I have humungous steroid looking muscles (for all you girls out there that are afraid of "getting big") Stronger as in less body fat, more toned, and being able to actually do push ups, and feel like a sexy bad ass in the gym. Being an actress/model, health and keeping my body in shape is very important. And Russ has done just that for me. His workouts consist of high intensity intervals - which means FAT BURNING FAT BURNING FAT BURNING. YES. He uses the Cross Core 180 band for a lot of his workouts, and they are SO. FUN. They hurt like a b*tch, and will make you sore for days afterwards, but they are amazing. With the Cross Core 180, his workouts never get boring. He's always changing it up, and I have always have a feeling of, "uh oh, what is he going to make me do next" WHICH IS AWESOME haha. Let's just say, I've never woken up and felt lazy and wanted to cancel a session with Russ (which has happened with some other trainers before I must shamefully admit). He is THAT good. Not only is he an amazing personal trainer, he is an amazing human being. I'm very happy that I can call Russ a good friend. I wouldn't want to put my money into a trainer who was an asshole. But the fact that Russ is the best trainer, and just a wonderful person? I really feel like I hit the jackpot.Put your trust in Russ, he's been doing this for a very, very long time. He knows what he's doing. I'm going to try to keep training with Russ as long as I can. The only thing that can stop me from training with him is if I move to India or something - which will be very unlikely :) Thank you Russ, for everything you have done for me and more. You're truly a gift. More...

I have been training with Russ for over three years.  He's helped me to lose weight and become much more fit.  He is a truly professional trainer and watches carefully to make sure I'm doing the exercises correctly to avoid injury.  He gives me a tough workout and has helped me to achieve things I'd never thought I could do.  Russ is an awesome guy who is fun to work out with and who makes a super challenging workout achievable.  I've had other trainers in the past, but I never stayed with them more than a few months.  Russ is the kind of trainer who develops a long term relationship with his clients and stays with us for the long haul.  I cannot recommend him highly enough.  He is my trainer for life! Russ is an amazing trainer and a great guy. He has the magic ability to give you a really great and challenging workout that somehow doesn't leave you in pain, but fatigued enough to know you really pushed your limits. Unlike other trainers I've worked with, he seriously pays close attention to your form and actually accurately keeps count of your reps- a seemingly simple detail which most trainers don't follow thru with. I've been working with him for a couple of months now and have seen a marked difference in my physical appearance, and I can feel a huge difference too. My physical therapist friend has noticed that I have much better posture and muscle tone since I started. I can't recommend Russ enough. He's nice, funny, and very knowledgable about the body and also about nutrition.  A great trainer and a great guy. More...

Best trainer in LA. Been working out with Russ for over 5 years, and thanks to him I am a beast!

Here's the thing about exercise.  I'm not a gym guy, I don't like doing countless reps and I don't want someone yelling "give me 5 MORE! "  I've always gotten exercise by playing a game of some sort, tennis, for example. I play tennis 3 or 4 times a week and I try to eat right, but I was getting to the point where I was getting injuries while playing and although I wasn't really overweight, I didn't have much tone to my body.  So I thought I might benefit from getting stronger, and more limber. I decided to join my wife for a couple of workout sessions with Russ, but I was really dragging my feet getting started. I had so many negative thoughts going around in my head.    Russ just gets it. He is able to adapt to the needs of his different clients and make it fun at the same time. Working out with Russ is more like friends getting together to talk, while we exercise. Russ keeps the conversation going and that has been the secret to success for me. Some folks want to go in and pound it out, and be serious all the time. I know Russ will do that too, but he knew going in to our sessions that wouldn't work for me. Uppermost in his mind is to give clients what they need to succeed. He's smart, funny, truly a nice guy, and he knows a happy client works harder and the benefits will be greater. I've been working with Russ for over a year and a half now and I'm stronger, I have better balance, I feel great and I think I just look more fit.  This all translates into my tennis game as well. I'm hitting harder, getting to balls quicker and recovering faster from long points. I recommend Russ because he knows what he's talking about. He's a student of health and fitness, and he's constantly reading and learning new techniques that he passes on to his clients. So, if you're like me and drag your feet when it comes to starting up an exercise program, give Russ a try. I think you'll be surprised how much you enjoy it and how much you'll benefit from it. I've been working out with Russ for over two years and the results are amazing.  I am stronger and in better shape than at any time in my life.  Russ really knows his stuff.  Form is everything if you're going to get the most out of each exercise, and he makes sureyou're always in the correct position.  He's very serious about you're workout, but he's easy to be with, and is very funny.Best of all, my wife now thinks I'm hot!  Thanks, Russ!!! So I met Russ when I purchased three training sessions in a silent auction at a golf tournament - 10 minutes into the first session I was hooked.  He has all of the characteristics you would hope a trainer would have.  His knowledge of the body is amazing.  He understands nutrition unbelievably well - he basically gets it.  But I don't consider these the reasons I like a trainer (I expect these levels of knowledge).  Russ is so much more than this.First, his level of intensity and concentration when he is with you is out of control.  He truly is able to block out every other distraction in the gym and he is 100% focused on EVERY SINGLE REP AND MOVEMENT THAT YOU MAKE.  And i mean every one.  He is always making adjustments and really focuses on how your body is responding.  He is the exact opposite of many trainers I see who spend the entire session talking to everyone else in the gym expect for the client in front of them.Secondly, I would always think to myself that I am paying for the last 3-5 reps during a set.  These are the ones that I would have considered physically impossible if I were on my own.  The ones that he is somehow able to convince me that I am able to do them.  And every time I would finish, I would have the "oh shit" moment of knowing exactly why I was working with  this guy,Basically, all I can say is that Russ gets results.  I liked him so much that I drove for miles to get to him.  I live in Long Beach, I worked in Marina Del Rey at the time and would I drive to Santa Monica three nights a week to meet with him and then have to head all the way down to the LBC after each session and it never bothered me.  I have since moved far too far to still see him and I miss him.  I would recommend this guy without hesitation regardless of your current physical state.  Just go.  You wont regret it (you might be sore as hell, but it will be the best feeling soreness you will have ever felt). Q&A

I start by getting them stronger. I have found that as people get strong, some aches and pains go away (or at least feel better) and they are then able to do more. Focusing on the body as a complex machine rather than as a bunch of body parts I use exercises that give the most bang for the buck while paying ultimate attention to technique. Small increases in loads will add up to GAINZZ more quickly that people think is possible.

The secret is that there is NO secret. Hard work, consistency and patience along with science, technique and dedication will get you to where you want to go.

The absolute BEST part of my job is when a client starts with me because of something relatively superficial ("I want to lose 10 lbs) and they soon discover that they are able to do things they couldn't before, like pick up their grandchild or get through a whole day with no back pain!
