I started learning Sax at 40 something, but due to circumstances spent the last few years without a teacher to guide me along and found myself making no further progress, although not for want of practising. Having seen Dean performing live i decided to ambush the unsuspecting Mr Masser after the gig with the simple question of helping me out. From the first lesson he quickly identified my poor Stance, Embouchure and Breathing and has began to help me correct my bad-habits. I've got a long way to go, but now feel i'm getting back on track. The lessons are relaxed and insightful, but at the same time i feel i'm being gently pushed along in a positive way. After only a few lessons i feel i've made some improvement. With each lesson i've had so far i've taken away something new which is what you want from a good teacher. I'm given tasks to do in my own time, as expected if you want to improve. Thus i can thoroughly recommend him and have no hesitation in giving five stars. More...

Best teacher, five stars! With Dean I turned round from static no progression not knowing whether I'd continue to persue music to vast improvements in my playing, musical knowledge and generaly enjoying playing more. Now I'm starting a music degree at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts. Deans teaching is second to none I can't recommend highly enough. More...

Dean is the most awesome and fun teacher I’ve ever had. I’m 15, and I look forward to every lesson, and can’t fail to come away feeling inspired. No matter how rubbish my day at school has been, Dean always has a funny joke to crack to make sure I come away laughing. His manner of teaching is so effective and if you don’t understand something he’ll make sure he explains it in a different way until you do. Fantastic, can’t recommend Dean highly enough! More...

Dean’s a good educator. His teaching of site reading and music theory helped me to have a better understanding of written music and that improved my playing ability a lot.

Started Jazz lessons with Dean over 2 years ago as I was struggling to get the whole jazz concept and a few teachers had tried to teach me but failed. . I am now starting to progress and the lessons are interesting and make sense of different approaches to improvisation and chord progressions . I am now confident of becoming a solid jazz improviser in the future .Great value for money and lessons never boring or feeling like a chore .. 5 * More...

If you want to achieve your full potential as a saxophone player then you can't do better than have Dean as your teacher. With Dean you learn techniques that won't be found in any tutor book . He is very passionate about his music and this is reflected in his teaching. He is always patient (He needs to be with me!). I began lessons with him learning the clarinet but once I had begun to play a saxophone I have never returned to the clarinet. Dean's teaching inspires enthusiasm.Chris Wood More...

Dean is an amazing teacher and I cannot recommend him enough! I started lessons with him 4 years ago, when I was 22 years old, having no knowledge of alto saxophone. I used to go to his house every two weeks for lessons. But found that sometimes I struggled to get there on time because of work commitments/traffic. I noticed that Dean did some Skype lessons so I asked him if we could try them out. And have carried on since! Now I live on the other side of the UK, and still have Skype lessons fortnightly. It does not compromise the quality of the lessons or the sound of the saxophone, and providing you have a good internet connection it will be fine. If any one is considering lessons with Dean I will encourage you to try him out, and even if you live hundreds of miles away ask for Skype lessons - they work really well :)Dean is a fun and encouraging teacher, he always finds new ways to teach and customise the lessons to each individual. Something that i really like about him is that even with his many years of experience as a musician and jazz player (and he is an amazing player) he is continually pursuing to learn more about the saxophone and music in general and always shares his new insights with me. He has taken me through ABRSM grades 4 and 5 with excellent marks and I am starting to learn jazz improvisation now. More...
