The original part of the house is lovely. The room we had was good, just like any other hotel room though. The food was good but the main course was served in a deep bowl which was quite difficult to eat from. Swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna were all very nice. More...

Room was pretty good and very clean. Food was nice and staff are great. Only negative for me is that the decor in the room was a bit dated

Attended for a Spa day with lunch. The reception staff on arrival was very informative and helpful. Afterwards we were directed to the restaurant /bar where we were met by the restaurant manager Jayne. After explaining some allergies and the fact that we could not eat dairy or gluten she went out of her way to ensure the food met our criteria. We were served by Tina who was attentive throughout. Altogether this was the best experience we have had for many years. A real find. More...

A beautiful venue - the main building was a stately home and of course modern accommodation added. It's grounds are spectacular, used for weddings etc. Plenty of parking usually though if large conferences happening at the same time it can be difficult to find a space.
The conference rooms vary in size to suit your needs. Rooms always well equipped. Staff are always friendly and attentive. Great refreshment stations with a healthy offering alongside the occasional more comforting choice. I love the sweetie cart & sweetie wheel. Very good planning in providing Uncle Joe's mint balls in the rooms as such awful weather lately and a lot of guests with coughs, colds etc The bar area is comfortable and available if you want to take your coffee in there or try their great selection of wine or beer, etc. The restaurant is large and the choice of food is magnificent - always takes a while to decide what to have. Soup, sandwiches, healthy, veggie, salad, cold meats, several hot choices and variety of side dishes plus pudding - help yourself and no-one judges! Finished plates removed quickly but discreetly.
Not cheap as you'd expect for such a fantastic venue but worth every penny. There is a health club which caters for private members and guests alike.

It has an indoor swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Though I was a little bit disappointed that day since it was so cold and the water in the Jacuzzi had not heated up but the swimming pool was warm then the Sauna was extremely hot such that people couldn't stand the heat for more than a minute.
Each elegant room has a TV, desk, tea and coffee making facilities and free Wi-Fi access. There is also a hairdryer in each room, along with a safe for valuables.

There is also a fitness centre for with an aerobics studio and outdoor tennis court. The restaurant serves a varied and locally sourced menu and their food is cheap and affordable.

Elegant featured period building with modern extensions. Good little gym with pool. Set in large well maintained gardens in a rural setting.

Had a great overnight stay. Leisure facilities are spot on and the food was lovely (although the waiter bought my wife's soup and then said he would bring the bread over but he never came back so she went without bread). The main course also took 40 minutes to arrive after we had finished the starter which was a bit too long considering there really wasn't very many others in the dining room.

Drinks are very expensive (Over £10 for 2 pints) but then I did expect that from this sort of establishment.

Would visit again if in the area !

Lovely venue, we went for a Christmas party. A word to the wise not all the rooms are in the lovely country hall. Most are in a Travelodge type place around the back so choose wisely!

My girlfriend booked here for a new years eve party for two nights. We drove down and the sheer size of the estate was breathtaking. A 12/13th century Manor House greeted us. Christmas decorations and all, think Downton Abbey. The room was allocated in an more modern extention of the older house but it did not dissapoint, very clean, well kept and there where always housekeepers cleaning rooms ready for the next guests. My only issue was the iron/ trouser press did not work, but this was easily resolved by the concierge at the front desk and within minutes there was a pleasant knock on the door and two housekeepers provided me a brand new iron. The party was excellent, the dj was very entertaining and the staff were singing and dancing along with the guests, the food was a buffet and the management of the tables stopped any rush for the food. Nursing a hangover the next day, breakfast in the restaurant was again buffet style and we where taken to our seat by a friendly member of staff.the choice of food exceeded expectations and was delicious. All in all the staff where the best I've experienced, the level of service is exceptional. They make you feel like royalty without patronising you, kudos to the housekeeping staff who work tirelessly to keep such a big complex clean, smelling fresh and are always smiling. 5* More...

Rooms at Cranage Hall have improved over the past year, but the decor is still quite tired. The rooms are large and clean, the bathrooms are still quite small, shower pressure in many of the rooms is hit and miss, sometime it feels like you're being pulverised by a pressure washer. Breakfast is okay in the morning, the buffet is always full and you can ask for eggs to be done boiled or poached if needed. Unfortunately the coffee is a disappointment but there is a Costa in Holmes Chapel if you're in need of something that does taste almost near to an acceptable coffee. More...

2nd stay here now for work. First and foremost the staff here are absolutely fantastic, they are friendly and accommodating and nothing is ever too much trouble. They are a credit to the hotel and the wider business. Food also fanstasic. The only criticism I have is that the rooms are slightly disappointing in that they have a dated feel and are quite scruffy with marks on the walls and carpets etc. More...

Big spa and hotel. A bit of a maze to get to the many rooms but the state rooms, receptions and bar area is well decorated and impressive. Room came with lots of nice touches (bath robes, chocolates, bottled water, beer) and very comfy bed. Had am emergency and didn't need the double room and unfortunately staff couldn't downgrade easily or cancel the breakfast as deal price was discounted already. Very friendly staff though and I understand the difficulty! Thanks for the stay! More...

Amazing venue. The beds are very springy, with real down duvets and fluffy pillows. The showers have great pressure, and very adjustable and easy to use. The towels are also massive. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautiful, rain or shine. The only issue is parking when there is an event or two on. Did not attend the spa. More...

I stayed here for a work trip and had a great time. huge facility with plenty of stuff to do right inside the building, pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room. Great food buffet for breakfast.  We took a cab provided by the hotel down to the quaint little village. There was plenty of pubs, and grocery stores. I would love to spend more than one day here just exploring the countryside. the 30 minute train ride gets you into Manchester easily. More...

What a fantastic place to stay!  I went to this fantastic hotel for a work trip. I was totally mesmerized to stay in a really old British 'castle like' place.  Shortly after I arrived, my coworker told me that the place used to be a mental institution/hospital.  I'm not sure how you'd react to that, but I kind of loved it and spent my free working minutes on the web, trying to learn about potentially haunted rooms and ghosts of ol' crazy people.  Unfortunately, no paranormal activities at this facility.  So instead, I spent my evening in the gym facility, took a spin course, and sweat my butt off.  The next day I tried the swimming pool and sauna as well.  I was also really pleasantly surprised that the locker rooms were equipped with fantastic hair dryers ... AND ... GHD hair straighteners.  Those babies cost a couple hundred euros a piece!  The lunch menu on the first day included meat and chilli beans, as well as salmon.. and then of course, some salad and lots of desert.  I tried the salmon with chili beans and overdosed on proteins.  So so so good.  The salmon was really fresh.  I ended up ordering salmon for dinner as well.  The quality of the food there was really fantastic. So the reason I am giving it 4 stars, instead of 5 is because it was just cold and chilly in there.  The front door was kept frequently open and I think the windows aren't properly isolated, so when the temperature drops outside, you feel it right away inside.Other than that - definitely recommended.  About 35 minutes from the Manchester Airpoint (36 Pound trip by cab).  Give it a try! Booked as a getaway for a couple of days. First room was ground floor overlooking car park, after requesting to see a couple of rooms they gladly showed us, we settled for an upgrade on the first floor. Hotel rooms we looked at were all tidy. Don't book expecting to stay in the hall, it is made up of restaurant, fitness and conference rooms. Only problem we found was that service in evening meal was slow, we waited an hour between main course and dessertgiving up on dessert in the end. The next night we ate locally. Overall nice grounds and nice rooms. More...

Stayed her recently for a one day training conference with work. Top tip. It's only 30 mins drive from Manchester airport but ring the hotel direct and they will give you the number for a local hackney firm they use. £40 vrs £70. More beer money for me! P.S. Hackney firm are excellent and picked us up in a brand new Toyota Avensis estate. I digress. Arrived at the hotel which is situated on its own 20 acres grounds and it is a Grade II listed building. Very nice setting. It was a Monday afternoon and the reception staff were all older ladies. Unusual but you knew they knew their stuff. Being Irish we asked when did the bar close? (We have been stung before with venues like this and the bar closing early) and to our great surprise she tells us and I quote "The bar closes when you stop drinking". Hallelujah, did she realise the trouble that was going to be in store.... Now now, we did behave ourselves I promise. P.S. This used to be a mental asylum you know! Decor very tasteful and well appointed. A small bit of a labyrinth but you get to were you are going to in nice surroundings. Room has all the 4 star mod cons, room key is a funny plastic card with holes in that you leave in the lock to open. Requested an Iron and board and had them within 5 mins. Bar nice and spacious. Best thing ever was the free american pool table but had UK sized balls, better than that was the garden sized connect 4 set!! Hours of fun for all the guys at the conference. We had teams from the UK, Ireland and Holland. A great night. Bar food really nice and prices not bad either. I'd recommend the burger with bacon and cheese served with great fries and coleslaw all on a wooden chopping board (they must have broken all the plates, ha ha ). Bar staff during the next day were hard to find and slow but that's because I'm used to Irish bar/pubs speeds. If your slow in Ireland you go out of business fast! Great conference facilities and little touches like bowls of sweets (Drumsticks, Fruit Salad and Love Hearts) during the intervals make all the difference. Breakfast & Lunch in the main restaurant was really good with a large choice. All buffet style but it just meant you got more of what you liked. Nice touch is the area between the bar and main restaurant with a free coffee/tea station and bowls of more sweets, apples, bags of crisps etc. These guys know how to look after a business conference. Will be pushing for more training and conferences here. More...
