Ideally suited for a base which one can travel to kendel or Windermere within 15 mins frendly staff, ample parking clean, and breakfast was ample also.

Would have liked to give it 5 stars as we enjoyed Christmas there, but room cleaning a bit suspect. Trod on some previous occupants to nail and back of bathroom door showing dust and mould stains, as examples.

We have stayed here several times and this is the first under the new management. There have been a few changes in layout & rooms and some much needed decoating has been done - it's an ongoing process but progree is being made. The room we booked, a 4 poster wasn't allocated to us but the room that was ,was pretty good so we didn't mind. Generally, everything was fine, the restaurant meals were good, staff and waiters excellent. The hotel was warm, cosy & friendly so we will return in the future. A couple of things that didn't sit too well with us was the 3 star food hygiene rating - we've never noticed this before and management should address this as a matter of urgency and in the pool, we were a little surprised to find children's swimming lessons taking place. These were not hotel resident's children and their parents were in the pool area, clothed & seated watching, whilst guests are using the sauna etc. It made using the pool a little more difficult beacuse of not wanting to disturb the little ones having the lessons. I'd rather be told the pool is out of use for an hour or so and plan around it.||Other than that, it was a good couple of relaxing days. More...

All in all tho a good selection for English breakfast, staff are very informative and helpful the views from breakfast over the ponds and with frost on the grounds made nice picture perfect Christmas cards ha ,plenty of car parking spaces ,and seating areas in and around the hotel, would have stayed up a bit later last night for entertainment as we head from room if we was informed? (Which was finished before 12) Ideal location if you where to visit bowness or kendel only if you went further, like Keswick or amberside there is road works and can make the journey alot longer ( took us 1hr more to return than it was to get there mine you it was around 4 o'clock in the evening) any how would recommend this hotel and hopefully return again. Lovely hotel , great location for lake Windermere . Our book in was quick and easy and staff friendly . I knew as soon as we parked up in the car park I’d seen this hotel before somewhere ( I’ve never been to the lakes ) it had appeared on channel fours the hotel . Car park has plenty of spaces so no problem parking either . Room was lovely , we did overlook the car park , but had requested the four poster room as our birthdays . And we are still very much in our honeymoon period . Staff always helpful and seem to work around the clock , I take my hat off too you all well done . First entering the hotel your are welcomed by a lovely reception area with a roaring fire and lots of Christmas decorations giving you a lovely warm Christmas feeling. Lots of seating available . Our stay included a trip on windermere lake for two and I have to say it was breathtaking , many thanks to the hotel for that we really enjoyed it . Our stay also included a three course evening meal , which we kindly asked if we could change from sat to Sunday as we had already Eaton at lunch time on Saturday , it did not prove a problem they were more than accommodating . The food was amazing , could not eat all of mine , she asked me if everything was ok , I replied amazing please send my compliments to the chef it was just lovely , I’m Just full up and saving room for my cheesecake .|I would have given you five stars but I’m afraid you lost a star on the bedding in my room , you see I never check before I sleep in the beds but always upon leaving I strip the beds and fold the sheets , as I myself work as a cleaner and I trip advise everywhere I go . Some might say I’m weird. But when I’ve cleaned holiday let’s it saves me so much time if they have stripped beds for me so I always do it !!! But I’m sorry my mattress protector was filthy !!! The pillows and duvet and sheets perfect and room itself perfect can’t fault anything , you even get tea coffee facilities which are topped up daily !! But the mattress protector was just awful !!!! So I’m sorry you lost a star . Other than that amazing stay and we would return if up in the lakes again. We traveled six hours to get to you , on our way home now. Thank you everyone . If the hotel would like a photo of the fitted mattress protector with a copy of a note I left for the cleaner to Change it please as and il email you a copy. I don’t feel it’s fair to put a copy of pic on here. As everything about our stay was lovely More...

Very nice hotel. The meals and breakfast were nice and considering there are no pubs nearby, the prices of the drinks were acceptable. The downside being that the pool is small and there are too many kids and babies allowed at same time as adults. Kids crying and splashing about, uncontrolled by parents doesn't make for a relaxing experience. On two separate occasions, by two separate families, I heard the kids state they wanted to wee. We stayed here for two nights. Room was small, a bit dated, but very clean. We ate in the restaurant first night, and the bar second night. Both times the food was excellent. There were a lot of dogs, but we don't mind them. They are allowed in the bar but not the restaurant. Shower was cold on first morning, barely warmed up but that might be because we had a lie in. Second morning we were up early and the shower was hot. The hotel has a lovely log fire in the reception lounge. Apart from the bar the hotel does look dated/tired - but it is clean. The reception staff and restaurant staff were very friendly. Booked into the spa for a treatment. I was after a gentle aromatherapy massage but ended up with what seemed like a sports massage. We are a family of four (two boys aged 8 and 10) and stayed here during half term break in October. We were very impressed with the hotel and really enjoyed our stay there. ||||The warm welcome we received on arrival was typical of the service we received from the staff throughout our stay - polite, helpful and attentive. Our family room was comfortable and stylishly decorated, with a huge flatscreen TV, ample storage and a fantastic en suite bathroom. ||||The food served at the hotel was delicious - the buffet breakfast had a huge selection of hot food, continental choices such as croissants and pain au chocolat, cereal and drinks. We ate on two evenings in the bar and found the meals extremely tasty with large portions and good value for money.||||The hotel offered a variety of other features. Wi-Fi extended throughout the hotel and there was a health and beauty salon which provided a range of services. We really enjoyed using the indoor swimming pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room - perfect for our two young children. We didn't use the fitness room but it looked modern and well equipped.||||We'd certainly recommend the hotel to others, especially to families. Quick check in. ||We had a family room right at the end of the building. It was a lovely size and decorated well. All the bedding was clean except one of the bed runners which had an obvious stain on it. Shower was fab and bathroom clean. ||Room in annex down and up various stairs. Would have struggled if my husband hadn't been there to carry the suitcase. ||Used the swimming pool which was small and busy (it was England half term).||||We went out into Windermere for tea which is about 10 mins away. When we returned there were no parking spaces and ended up having to park on the other side of the hotel in the service vehicle car park in the pitch black.||||Not the hotels fault but the teenagers in a room nearby knocked on our door at 11pm shouting room service and ran away laughing. This was probably very amusing to them but not the best when you have a 5 year old that you want to stay asleep! We only stayed one night and weren't sure which room they were in otherwise we would have hunted them down and complained.||||Breakfast was tasty and staff very efficient. Staff seemed to be very protective over the tables next to the lovely view. There was a window table free when we came in but we only had 3 people so got placed at a table next to the entrance to the breakfast room even though there were lots of empty tables. A lady after us dared to ask if she could sit at an empty window table but was told it was not set up. She then watched sadly as the waiter cleaned and set up the table in about 10 seconds then placed a group of 4 people that came in after her. It was not that busy and there were plenty of empty tables so it would have been nice for people to choose where they wished to sit. More...

We just returned from our weekend away. The hotel itself was lovely. We booked family room which was on a ground floor. Lovely big room with double bed and single bed. We had our 7 month old baby and a dog with us. Room was big enough for all of us and had lovely views of a garden and a pond with ducks in it. Room was clean and tidy although we found as our baby crawled around that the carpet was not very well hoovered as our boy was covered in dogs hair but these were not of our dogs. I believe if the hard floor would be there instead of carpets it would make it easier to keep it clean. We found all of the staff very helpful and friendly. This hotel is really dog friendly and everyone liked our dog Marley. If you have a dog and hesitate this is definitely a hotel for you. We also used the pool and Jacuzzi but it was a bit tired. There is also plenty of board games to borrow in case of a bad weather too which is a nice touch. There is a nice walk 5 mins drive from the hotel by car. We really enjoyed it. The only thing which lets this hotel down is its food. We ate here on our first night but the food is just average. It was OK but missed some seasoning as it was a bit tasteless. Everything else was fab. Overall we would recommend this hotel and would come again. More...
