Awesome staff! I am a beginner when it comes to fly fishing so I went in with plenty  of questions. The staff was patient, and offered tips and tricks. They gave me a map and suggested places I would enjoy fishing as a beginner. I mentioned that I didn't know how to run my line properly so I can attach a leader, the guy working there did it all for me. Great day on the water today with Reed (and Sue!). No photos of monster fish here, but a steady diet of hits (and misses) all day long. And no muffled chuckles or derisive comments from Sue while watching Reed untangle the knots in my line, replacing lost terminal tackle, etc. I've have had many trips with the staff from CA - many of those were "biblical" - but today will likely be the most remembered. My husband and I took a half day float trip and it truly was one of the best experiences of my life! Our guides Blake and Mike were awesome! ! We both learned so much about fly fishing and we even caught some brown trout! The guides went over and beyond to make us feel comfortable fishing and to give us the best opportunity to try and catch some fish. Would totally recommend this trip for anyone! Top Notch! Made a last minute reservation for a guided float down the Colorado River while visiting my sister in Denver for a long weekend. Jack Y was our guide and the trip along with Jack could not have exceeded my expectations more. He was an awesome person to go on a day trip down the river with on top of being an expert angler.My sister was a beginner and he taught her the basics and some tricks very well, enough for her to catch a small rainbow trout before I could catch anything! I ended up catching a ~16" brown trout towards the end, which made the trip that much better, but even just being out there floating was great! I would recommend Jack to anyone who's looking for a fantastic guide to learn from and have a great time with! More...

I enjoyed a fantastic morning with Tor last week. I am a complete novice and he made the morning informative (I felt like I learned a lot in a small amount of time) and above all FUN. Using his local knowledge, I had plenty of strikes and was even able to land a few. Also using the knowledge he imparted, I was able to find a great spot on the Snake later that evening and help my son hook a lovely Rainbow (on a spinning rod/reel) second cast. Anyway, I am hooked and will be gearing up soon and most definitely heading out with Tor again. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend CTA and Tor in particular, to anyone interested in learning about fly fishing in Summit County. More...

Fished with Matt Campanella today, let me start by saying I took my 5 yr old who has never fly fished and I have thrown a fly maybe twice. Matt was extremely patient and helpful, he took time to help my son enjoy his trip to the fullest! By the end of the trip my 5 yr old out fished several adults beside us and I think we landed 15 plus Rainbows! Matt exceeded my expectations and both my son and I had a great trip! Myself and 3 friends went on a full day guided wading trip and had a great time! Only 1 of us had previous fly fishing experience, and the other 3 had minimal/none. Our guides, Brandon and Adam were great! They were good teachers, very patient, and personable. We went to some private ponds near Kremling, which was beautiful and had many large trout. Brandon and Adam worked very hard to make sure we had the best spots and flys to catch fish. Our guides were very enthusiastic and made it easy to get into fly fishing. I've bought everything from fly line, reels, and rods from these guys....they carry some of the top brands in the industry and I've been happy w/ all of my purchases. When I bought my new G Loomis GL3 this summer, they had a promo for 50% off of a reel w/ a purchase of any rod. The shop guys were very helpful and knowledgeable w/ the products. Cutthroat Anglers is the best fly shop in Colorado. I travel throughout the Rocky Mountains to fly fish, and Cutthroat Anglers never disappoints. Their staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The shop is stocked with every item an angler would need. Their guides are the best on the river. A float trip on the Roaring Fork in late June is about the closest thing to heaven on earth that I have experience.PROS: Great fly selection. Tons of guide permits.

Cutthroat Anglers not only has a large, attractively and well organized shop with a huge selection of fishing items, but they also offer guide services if you want to hire a fishing guide for the day. They are fairly expensive, but they are extremely knowledgeable about fishing and will help you find great fishing spots (even if you aren't using their guide services). I was more disappionted in fact with their guide services, which we have used twice (once with an all day boat-float and once without a boat). We found the guides to be average, compared to some excellent guides we've used in other locations. More...
