CrossFit Spot is a great "box" for beginners to crossfit as I was. It is a very welcoming fitness space for all level of crossfit experience. I highly recommend Eric Rivera as he is a very knowledgeable coach. He makes sure every attendant feel comfortable and belonged in the class. I like how they structure the beginners class, where the first 30 minutes of class is about learning common crossfit movement and exercises. This is very critical to new comers as the crossfit terminology is was something new for me. The last 30 minutes consists on "workout of the day" WOD. It is very intense and it really make you sweat - so be ready. More...

I am a beginner and have really appreciated working out at CrossFit SPOT. I’ve been to a couple of other boxes and can say that I’ve received more attention, coaching, direction, and encouragement here than anywhere else. The coaches I have worked with are passionate about giving a good workout and making sure you are doing it correctly, which I appreciate so much because it keeps me from getting hurt and helps me to get skills that I can build on as I continue to grow! I travel from 140th to work out here because it is so worth it to me - clean facilities, good work out, incredible coaches. More...

And they make sure you get and keep the technique right. Then to add, they have clean, spacious, and individual shower, toilet, lockers facilities to use for free.I find this gym such a gem that I prefer to commute an hour each way from Crown Heights, even though there are a couple of highly rated gyms (and I've tried them) that are walking distance from my home. This is one of those places that, to the newbie thinking of embarking on a serious fitness program, can give the impression of being a very intimidating place. After all, some of the fittest people I've seen spend time here. My initial impression however, after taking a week of classes and observing everyone's interactions - there isn't an ounce of ego in the entire Box. The sense of community, where the coaches and members alike motivate and congratulate each other for a never-before-done weight on a deadlift or a snatch for example, is amazing. This is a family run operation, and from the top-down, each and every member is supported (and pushed hard) in moving closer to their purpose of being there - the only competition that exists is the one between your present self and the person you're committed to becoming. Yes, it's hard. And I question going to the next class when every single part of my body is in pain. But I go, because I know that at some point(s) in the future I'm going to be faced with really some tough life obstacles. And my deciding today to show up to a class that'll push me beyond my perceived limits, will give me the confidence to push through whatever life throws at me in the future, either by my doing or by something out of my control. I'll see you at the next class... More...

At their new space, there is everything a strength athlete of any level might need: all sorts of bars, kettlebells, dumbbells, and other toys that I have yet to try. They offer multiple classes throughout the day and have open gym hours every day of the week, which is a nice change from some of my previous gyms that had open gym only on certain days. Bought a 10 pack of classes for a really good price on Groupon and I’ve really enjoyed the classes. The instructors are attentive and make sure you have proper form which is really important and don’t always find in CrossFit. I love the format- generally it’s the first 20 minutes or so working on a particular move, like a snatch, clean and jerk etc, and the second half of the class will often be a partner AMRAP workout which usually has a good mix of cardio and strength. My only dislike is that they don’t always start on time, and they don’t incorporate stretching into the workout, tho they do encourage you to stay and stretch. More...
