What makes a great website?
Attraction. Content. Strategy. Make a website attractive, and you've grabbed someone's attention. But... fill it full of rubbish, and you've lost them again, so content is just as important: relevant text information, concise, and meaningful, with images and colours that are relevant too, add true value. Finally, strategy is important as well, because keeping a website attracting potential business is an evolving thing. Plan updates, and build evolution into your website. A website that changes it's content and updates often will keep it's audience coming back.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Who is your target audience? What is the message you wish to convey? What platform/media are you needing to convey this? What ideas do you already have for the project?
Describe your creative process.
I like to involve my clients in the decision-making as much as possible. First, we discuss the project in depth, and we determine the desired outcomes. We talk about what options are available and what media to use, and alternatives if necessary. Then design(s) are drafted for the finished product. Then I review it with the client. If all is satisfactory, this will be signed off, and finished work is completed. If not, I will repeat the stage until it is right. After this, a final review will be set, work completed, and the final product is signed off.
What information do you need from a client before you can start work?
This depends on the outcome, and the level of involvement that a client wants in the project. Usually, any existing branding files and imagery will be required, as high resolution as possible. For all projects, a payment schedule will be outlined and agreed before work begins.
What do you love most about your job?
The fact that no job is ever the same. Each project undertaken poses it's own set of objectives, creative challenges, and the most satisfying part is not only overcoming those challenges, but in most cases, exceeding them. It's great to see a new website going live, or a newly printed publication, whether that be real (like a brochure) or virtual (like an e-book). Seeing a client pleased with a publication is sometimes it's greatest reward.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Knowing that I could add value to other businesses by adding my input, my designer's eye, and my knowledge of design software, techniques, and life experience.
Why should our clients choose you?
Choosing CWDS means you get a personalised service. It is a company built on a sound foundation of good relationships with it's clients, and clients that come back for more as a result. We're in it for the long-term. I'm not a fly-by-night operator who wants to grab your money, do a cheap job quickly, and leave you in the lurch as soon as the job is finished. I want to become an asset that offers true value to my customers, and continue to offer design services and advice whenever you need it.
